Since 1998, there have been lots of these poppy plants in my back yard in Regina, Saskatchewan. This is the only one that's popped open so far this season. Hosta in the background.

The pavilion in the Chinese section of Riverside Memorial Park cemetery in Regina, Saskatchewan. As its name implies, this cemetery is also a park. Thoughtfully landscaped, it is a tranquil location to be enjoyed either on foot or by vehicle.

Although this photo looks like it's been converted to b&w, it's actually had no adjustments to colour and light.

The trees looked very beautiful with their hoar frost. There was much more to photograph in the vicinity, but I had to call it quits early because I had removed my gloves in order to be able to use the touch screen, and my fingers were starting to freeze (temp. at 12F/-11C). The phone's battery was also complaining about being cold.

Closeup of one of two Dolgo crabapple trees, blooming profusely in my back yard in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2023. This prairie-hardy tree was planted in 1998 and produces many small, bright red, sour-tasting apples, not good to eat fresh, but might be OK for jelly. The blossoms were at their best when this photo was taken, but overnight, quite a few of them blew off in the wind. Once the blossoms are gone, these trees won't look showy again until August, when the branches are loaded with bright red apples.

This iris plant popped into bloom in my yard in Regina, Saskatchewan this morning. Irises like this one are prairie-hardy, and have no trouble surviving the occasional -40F/C temperatures.

Getting the perfect group shot of these giant Asiatic lilies was a challenge. Called "Purple Eye", they bloomed in profusion last month, in my yard in Regina, Saskatchewan.

This photo once served as the cover photo for the group, "Floral Fantasy".

Generally considered the best example of the remaining Japanese castles, it was constructed between 1581 and 1609, replacing an earlier version. There are defensive walls, a double moat, gates, walls, and a large (6-story) keep in the center.

Just a few of the houses that back onto the created pond in the Windsor Park subdivision in Regina, Saskatchewan. I spotted a pelican, out for a swim tonight, but it disappeared before I could take a photo of it.

Hey, it's BEEN AWHILE, right? This was taken off the deck of the Enchanted Princess as I was departing the ship after a 27-night, transatlantic cruise. Dockworkers were busy restocking the food aboard the ship for its next journey. One of the twelve countries I've visited since my last post here (!)

Nothing like late January to sharpen one's memory of warmer times.
