Taking smaller samples from along the core length.
Cores are tubes of earth retrieved by drilling a borehole. Boreholes are often drilled in advance of construction involving foundations or to study the deep layers of archaeological deposits without excavation. We use samples from the cores for dating and environmental purposes.
The resulting swatches from my yarn sampling the other day.
This experiment was very interesting. Although I like all of the finished yarns I had pretty strong preferences for my project as soon as I saw the skeins, but the swatching really made me appreciate how nice they all are even more.
The yarns spun up slightly differently than I had expected in some cases, but the swatching was really where the difference in expectations came out. I wasn't thinking after seeing the skeins that I would like all of them so much, but I do! They're all beautiful but I think I still prefer my original choice the best for a sweater for me. Christian Dinkel (aka. Chregu), our veteran field technician at the Swiss aquatic research institute (EAWAG), signals to the captain of the M.V Mama Benita to halt the engines. The vessel comes to a stop in the center of Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania. In Chregu’s right hand is the sampling weight that will be used to trigger the closure of the sampling bottles, which are some 1000 meters below the surface of the lake. The waters that will be soon recovered in these bottles, are completely free of oxygen and contain toxic hydrogen sulfide – deadly to fish. Chregu’s effort, along with the many crew and scientists involved in the project, will help us unravel the mysteries of Lake Tanganyika.

I had uploaded this image last night, thinking that it was SOOC, but then when looking at my EXIF today, there were all sorts of 'adjustments' indicated. I am just newly working with the whole converting to dng's ( I still have CS3 and it is not 'compatible' with the Mark II files) and when converting them and then opening in bridge, auto settings were being applied. changed that now. Here, still is the comparision. Even though it stated there were auto adjustments, I don't see much difference between the SOOC and the 'adjusted'
Each sample weighs approximately 1 ounce and will last through 5-10 hand washings or 1-2 great showers! This is a great option for sampling a variety of combinations.
