In years past manufactures were very nice in providing small sample packets of their products. Grocers or at exhibitions were one place that they could be obtained, the other was sending off to the manufacturer for a sample.
Due to the high price of postage today, the cost of sending the item is more than the cost of the product, it is far easier for a manufacturer to simply allow the potential customer to download a voucher and go and get a free full size pack from the supermarket.
Interesting little collectables are no more.

Many texts, myths and rituals concerning goddess subsume them all under one great female being, named generally as Mahadevi or Devi. Earliest Hindu tradition as reflected in the Vedas speak of discrete goddesses like Lakshmi and Parvati. Later, there emerged a tendency to relate all goddesses to one ultimate goddess, the best example of such texts being the Devi Mahatamaya. Another important feature of Mahadevi mythology and theology is the insistence that assumes both benign and terrible aspects of Mahadevi
In Hindu pantheon, Durga is one of the most popular goddesses, and her creation takes place in the context of a cosmic crisis. The asuras were on the ascent, and they had become a threat to cosmic stability. The male gods were unable to contain and subdue them. A number of male gods having failed to subdue the demons led by Mahishasura, assembled into a conclave and emitted their energies upon Uma/Parvati, the wife of Shiva, who became the warrior goddess, Durga, that is, the invincible.

My colleagues Magnus and Therese are sampling the biofilm on the granite walls of Kungsträdgården metro station. It was from samples from this wall we found the new species Bacillicladium lobatum and Bradymyces graniticola, but this time it was somewhat staged for Peter to film for the evening news covering our paper published the same day describing the two fungi.

The main focus of the third session of Pangaea is volcanism. Lessons on the first day emphasized types of lavas and volcanoes found across Earth, Mars and the Moon.
ESA’s Pangaea training course prepares astronauts and space engineers to identify planetary geological features for future missions to the Moon, Mars and asteroids.
Leading European planetary geologists share their insights into the geology of the Solar System.
Through Pangaea, Europe is developing operational concepts for surface missions where astronauts and robots work together, among themselves and with scientists and engineers on Earth, using the best field geology and planetary observation techniques.

I'm working on a new blog post for HTC about inexpensive lighting, here's a few sample images from the post.
My wine is now 25 days old. Since I will be “racking” to a new carboy sometime tomorrow I decided to skim the fruit residue that was floating on top (now in the bowl), so I hopefully won't transfer much of the yeast/fruit sediment to the new jug.
I also tested the specific gravity and it shows about 0.990 on the hydrometer. So, now that fermentation is complete, it looks like the wine will have a 14.4% alcohol content.
The test sample here tasted okay, but you can definitely tell how young it is. This wine won't be anywhere near “good” or drinkable until it has aged for another 6-12 months.
Sample of altar cloth. Pricking from Svenska Spetstar 40/2 Bockens linen. this is the second sample, out of the same thread to be used on the main project. It enables church members to see what is going on, and helps the maker eliminate mistakes from the actual cloth edging. It has been boiled to check for shrinkage.

For those who've asked about the durability of this product, you can see the sample here which I put to the test before buying it. This was nowhere near normal wear and tear. I even had a friend stomp on it with her high heels and couldn't even see where she'd stomped! I used a knife handle because it's a small concentrated force. I hit it HARD. If you went all out, you'd see gouge marks and big dents but a reasonable test has to be fair.
