antica festa celtica di capodanno, segnava la fine dei raccolti e l'inizio della stagione fredda.
Si svolgeva fra il 31 ottobre e il 1° novembre, in quello che si credeva un interregno fra i due anni, momento in cui il mondo dei vivi e quello dei morti si toccavano....
E i nostri avi romani, che dinanzi a feste e divinità straniere non facevano mai una piega, vi riconobbero i meccanismi di certe liturgie che loro celebravano durante i Lemuria o i Parentalia: tutte feste in cui gli spiriti dei morti venivano esorcizzati, celebrati, placati.
Nel 609 papa Bonifacio IV istituì la festa di Ognissanti, da celebrare il 13 maggio (data in cui venivano festeggiati i Lemuria romani);
il secolo successivo papa Gregorio III la spostò però al 1°novembre, così da installarla sul Samhain celtico. E questa è una tattica ricorrente: la festa pagana viene esaugurata e coperta con una nuova festa riconsacrata alla religione cristiana.
Ma con la Riforma luterana la festa voluta dal papa smise d'esser celebrata nei territori protestanti. Svestiti i panni cristiani, tornò laica, tornò pagana - pur mantenendo un nome cristiano ed evolvendo carsicamente nei secoli fino all'Halloween che conosciamo oggi, coi suoi simboli macabri e le usanze grottesche.

The last week of Samhain has started, but that doesn't mean I've seen enough. There are so many fantastic creations that my head just can't keep up with the ideas. You will still see one or two of me here after the event. Do yourself a favor and visit Samhain if you haven't already been!

What a Blot actually is:
Go straight to the point, a Norse blot was a pagan sacrifice to the Norse Pantheon. The word "blot" means "sacrifice" or "worship". A Blot can be dedicated to any god, the spirits of the land, and the ancestors. A blot could be held several times a year. Parts of this ritual took in the forms of sacramental feast or meal. But it wasn't too much terrible because the victims would be pigs or horses.
The meat for the sacrifice and feast would be boiled inside enormous cooking pots. And the blood of the animals would be sprayed on the statues of their gods, on the people, and around the wall. This part was believed to serve to preserve the magic and the power. Everyone would sit around the cooking pots and tried the meals. Because they believed eating on such occasions meant they were feasting with gods. The drink which primarily was the ale was passed around. The drink was also sacred and blessed. If the noble were feasting together, they would stand a chance of drinking the imported wine.
The building where the blot happened was known as the hov which we can see as the building that people would only come to celebrate something religious and come to worship.

Since last year I am learning alot about Samhain and it´s meaning... the rituals and the pagan language as well. Thanks to my darling with his nordic/pagan family roots.

The Samhain Sisters had their first vet visit yesterday. They did remarkably well.. sat quietly in their carrier the entire time and weigh in at 2lbs each. They do not have FIV thank goodness. Sadly they came to me with stomach issues (diarrhea) and its not stopped. The vet game me Royal Canin and they flat out refuse it. I kept them with no other food for over 24 hours and they are still to tiny and fragile but they would not eat it. I did research and i'm not sure its ok for them. I read some pretty horrific stories about the effects of this food on cats and dogs. Even animals that had been on it for quite some time. So if ANYONE has any input, I would me very very grateful. Thanks for stopping by. <3

Halloween (also known as All Hallows' eve or All Saints' eve) is a celebration on 31october.
It is believed that Halloween has it's origins in Celtic harvest festivals which have pagan's roots in Samhain. And Samhain was Christianized as Halloween.
Halloween activities include trick-or-treating , attending Halloween costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing and divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films.
In the Philippines, during Halloween, Filipinos return to their hometowns and purchase candles and flowers, in preparation for the following All Saints Day (Araw ng mga Patay) on 1 November

You may not know that Halloween didn't originate in America, but rather in Ireland, during the time when the continent was under Celtic rule. The name Halloween (Hallow E'en in Irish) derives from the contracted form of All Hallows' Eve, where Hallow is the archaic English word meaning Saint, hence "the eve of All Saints' Day." Halloween also coincides with Samhain, the Celtic New Year. It was from Ireland that this tradition was later brought to the United States by immigrants who, driven by the devastating famine of the 19th century, migrated in large numbers to this new continent. Samhain is a pagan festival that celebrates the changing of the seasons and the transition from summer to autumn. Considered one of the oldest and most important pagan festivals, Samhain falls between October 31st and November 1st each year. It marks the end of the year in several traditional calendars. The earliest celebrations of Samhain Night date back approximately 2,000 years, to the era before the arrival of Christianity in Europe. Samhain was an important festival for the Celts, who believed that the physical and spiritual worlds were connected and that at this time, the gates between the two opened. They believed that the spirits of the dead were released during this special night and could return to earth to visit their loved ones. Today, Samhain Night is still celebrated by millions of people worldwide. A variety of Samhain-related activities take place, including pagan rituals, bonfires, music, performances, and costumes. People often gather around a bonfire to sing and share a meal while honoring their ancestors.
