Captured on the same day as this other shot is perhaps the most photographed dead tree/log in Rochester. You can see it as a silhouette in the foreground here. I find the remains of its roots interesting, with all its gloriously chaotic twists and turns (like life!).
Lesson learned: If you're going to take a long exposure with the sun directly behind you, and you don't want your shadow in the shot, then use something (e.g., camera strap, etc.) to cover the viewfinder. Otherwise, you'll get a large, and sometimes nasty looking flare in the image. And I'm not talking about the cool lens flares you can get when shooting into the direction of the sun.
This image was taken in the grounds of the Catholic Church in SAME. No need to buy a pet in East Timor - you can keep them as long as you can catch them!
Cupcake, the grey-brown snake, is a normal snake (a constrictor of some kind; I can't remember the species now) while the other is an albino.

Almost same trip as yesterday along the river Dhron, it was a bit later in the day so sunny places moved. Today a Sigma SD14 with the infrared cutoff filter to produce normal colors.
SALAMANCA – CASTILLE & LEON
Salamanca, in north-west Spain, is the capital of the province of the same name, which itself belongs to the autonomous community of Castilla y León. Its history dates back to Celtic times, and it is famous for its ornate sandstone buildings and its university.
The Plaza Mayor is at the heart of Salamanca. It is an urban space built like a Castilian main square, which over time has become the centre of the city's social life. It is also the city's most characteristic monument. Its shape is trapezoidal rather than square, ‘an irregular but surprisingly harmonious quadrilateral’.
The Plaza Mayor was built between 1729 and 1756 to reward the city for its loyalty during the War of Spanish Succession. It is almost entirely the work of the architect Alberto Churriguera. Baroque in style, its perimeter is embellished by galleries with semi-circular arches. Medallions bearing the effigies of famous figures such as the Catholic Monarchs, Christopher Columbus, Miguel de Cervantes, El Cid and Francisco Franco can be seen on all the arcades, of which there are 186.
