A PENNANT WIPING IS EYES

one of my favorite spots in venezia. i sat for many hours on the steps of the salute, around the tip of island, the dogana, piazzetta and palazzo ducale just across the canal grande. this exposure was made from giudecca on a typical early summer afternoon.

Santa Maria della Salute (English: Saint Mary of Health), commonly known simply as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located at Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the city of Venice, Italy.

It stands on the narrow finger of Punta della Dogana, between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, at the Bacino di San Marco, making the church visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water. The Salute is part of the parish of the Gesuati and is the most recent of the so-called plague churches.

This couple didn't even realize I snapped a picture behind them, as they were seemingly caught in deep admiration of the scenery in front of them...

All the colors of the Italian flag...my father's family came to Canada from Italy and I have inherited my grandfather's love of all flowers...his small garden in Toronto was filled with roses, Italian tomatoes and colorful patches of other flowers and was my favorite place to spend time as a child
