Oldie but Goodie Revisited for St. Patty's Day!

FOR THE MARCH 18TH THEME " I'M PURRFECT"

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Chicago where, in keeping with tradition, the Chicago River was dyed green and, following a two year hiatus, parades were held last weekend. To make up for lost time, participants were Dublin down on the dye-hard partying :)

In memory of all our beloved dogs we have lost over the years but Saint Patricks Day is the day our greatly missed Beardie Cara was born & he died 14 years later on Saint Patricks Day, 5 years ago. These snowdrops grow on our dogs final resting place, underneath an old crab apple tree and always seem to be blooming on Cara's birthday.

Another panoramic image from Saint Patrick's Day 2022. On this afternoon, the Internets said that Norfolk Southern 1069, the Virginian heritage unit, was a trailing unit on a train heading east BNSF's Mendota Sub and that had stopped in Sandwich, IL. Since I pass this spot on my way home, I made it a point to stop if the train was still there when I left work a few hours later. Sure enough, it was still there. I rolled up with a setting sun making for a colorful sunset. While there's no featured green in this image, seeing my first heritage unit since before the Covid pandemic was like the pot of gold. And between the golden sunset and the Virginian's golden yellow, it's more than representative of the Leprechaun's gold.

Fun for Saint Patrick and our Irish friends all over the world. Tulip from Filoli, color from my imagination.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

and she complained over the thinness

For 52 Weeks of Pix: "Something Green"

Wow! where did that week go??? I don't think I've stopped at all and still have a few days to go LOL

Had to search through the archives for a fence Friday shot today.... Mum and I were here last year and were fortunate enough to have the road to ourselves :)

The dark hedges are rows of beech trees lining a road near Armoy, Ballymoney. They are some of the most photographed trees in Northern Ireland and have been made famous by the recent TV series Game of Thrones.

Wishing you all a Happy Fence Friday :)

Thank you everyone for the fantastic comments on my bluebell pic and my jumping quad pic :)

For all Irish people or those of you who love Ireland: wishing you a Happy St Patrick's Day 2021 with a very green photo taken at Inistioge many years ago.

In the background you can see (part of) the 10 arch stone bridge over the River Nore. Inistioge has featured in a number of films.

I loved Ireland and hope to go back one day.

I started looking for you, not knowing

How blind that was.

They're in each other all along.

Just a wee picture of Asha showing off her portrait apron she created for a previous Saint Patrick's Day shoot. This picture was taken on her last St. Patrick's shoot around 6 months before she left us but she left us this legacy.

This is a book quote from Louise Erdrich's novel Future Home of the Living God that I've had stuck in my head the past few weeks like a song that won't end. It's an intense novel, just like life is an intense experience. Each day, we live with genocide, climate change, extreme cruelty, racism, classism, the end to body autonomy and people still just want to have a grand old party any time there's a chance for a parade, a dyed green river, and an abundance of beer.

I don't really celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. I just picked the wrong day to visit The Art Institute because I basically have no common sense or clue about major events happening downtown in my city. I very quickly ran into thousands upon thousands of revelers with their jugs of alcoholic "borg" taking advantage of a nice 60 degree F Saturday in March and a level of mass consciousness jubilee that they could latch onto.

I don't really want to sound judgy here but I really am warring with my inner demons on how to cope with the loss of human rights every day in my country and the devastation that is to come every time the billionaire that is Elon Musk wants to cut environmental protections, disease protections, social security, education...basically, anything that doesn't involve making him money.

Then again, we're used to our tax dollars being used for nefarious ends and so we just act like we may as well enjoy our weekend.

What are we supposed to do after signing petitions and writing to representatives? Just stand in the middle of Michigan Avenue and scream? I really don't know but whatever this is isn't working, either. It just seems like eternal madness in a way.

Help! I hate it here!

Bonnie and Gia found a Leprechaun sitting on their garden table and they wasted no time in wanting to touch him, to see if some of his luck will rub off on them. The girl's already feel lucky in finding this Leprechaun in their back garden in time for St. Patrick's Day...

Happy memories of a holiday on the Sheep's Head Peninsula, in Southwest Ireland! Rugged, sometimes misty and very beautiful.

I cant claim to have Irish roots - or at least not that I know of - but with Saint Patrick's Day around the corner, Crann Bethadh may be an appropriate title for this tree - one left standing on cleared land for it's special powers. I've driven by it many times over the years and have always wondered - only once before stopping with camera in hand. That photo, with a different point of view, won a contest. On this occasion, we were hoping for some color with blue skies but it appeared we'd left that behind and further ahead, it started to snow.

Turning green & shamrocks everywhere.

This is my first post with my new Canon 6D - have finally succumbed to full frame and the red rings! X2 extender on the 70-200mm 2.8 IS to get this shot. The 2 Cathedrals are a well known feature of the skyline in Armagh City. They are illuminated green for St. Patrick's day on the 17th March. Light just fading in the blue hour to keep a bit of interest in the sky overhead.

The Kunstkamera is the first museum in Russia. Established by Peter the Great and completed in 1727, the Kunstkammer Building hosts the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography with a collection of almost 2,000,000 items. It is located on the Universitetskaya Embankment in Saint Petersburg, facing the Winter Palace.

The Kunstkamera was established by Peter the Great on the Neva Riverfront. The turreted Petrine Baroque building of the Kunstkamera designed by Prussian architect Georg Johann Mattarnovy was completed in 1727. The foundation stone was laid in 1719. The name Kunstkamera is derived from German Kunstkammer, literally meaning "Art chamber".

Seeing as ‪SaintPatricksDay‬ is nearly upon us and that there will be a load of national icons illuminated green over the coming days and many images of them floating around the internet, I said I would photograph one of the lesser known icons (well its an icon in my eyes...)

Here I present to you "Knockadoon Tower Goes Green" for Saint Patricks Day

'Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.'

(Nathaniel Hawthorne)

The Sunday closest to 17 March, as every year, London hosts Saint Patrick's Day. The area around Trafalgar Square becomes emerald, white and amber to celebrate everything Irish. The rain, far from stopping the celebrations, completes the atmosphere this time.

Around the main Parade, crowds and street performers alike struggle not to collide. One brave mime stands still as the swirl of people hurries around, trying to avoid each other.
