It is said that the American Avocet brings elegance in the bird world to a new level. This image taken in the mangroves of the Ten Thousand Islands in SW Florida highlights this.
Wise man said just walk this way
To the dawn of the light
The wind will blow into your face
As the years pass you by
Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and you will find
Passage out of the dark
Here I am (Here I am)
Will you send me an angel
Here I am (Here I am)
In the land of the morning star
The wise man said just find your place
In the eye of the storm
Seek the roses along the way
Just beware of the thorns
Here I am (Here I am)
Will you send me an angel
Here I am (Here I am)
In the land of the morning star
Wise man said just raise your hand
And reach out for the spell
Find the door to the promised land
Just believe in yourself
Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and you will find
The way out of the dark
Here I am (Here I am)
Will you send me an angel

The Buddha Said — Alan Watts ft. Akira The Don
And so, that is a nice little tangle
If I put this in the language
Of oriental philosophy and religion
It would be something like this
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
One who abandons that desire attains nirvana
Which is supreme peace liberation
Nirvana means, in Sanskrit blow out
That is, exhale the breath exhale the breath
The opposite, dеsire, is to breathe in
Now, if you brеathe in, and hold it
You lose your breath
But if you breathe out, it comes back to you
It comes back to you
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
So the principle here is if you want life
Don't cling to it let go
Let go
But the problem is if I desire not to desire
Is that not already desire?
How can I desire not to desire?
How can I surrender myself
When myself is precisely an urge to hold on
To cling?
To cling to life, to continue to survive
To survive to survive
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
The Buddha said that wisdom
Must come only from the
Abandonment of selfish craving, or desire
I can see rationally
That by clinging to myself
I may strangle myself
I may be like a person who has a bad habit
As a result of which he is committing suicide
And he knows that but can't give it up
Because the means of death are so sweet

Said The Sky And Origami_Affection
Might not be the time to break the silence
Might not be the place to reel you in
But lemme catch all your tears like tiny diamonds
Might be the last time you'll fall for this again
Ooh who am I
If I am not the one to love you
The one to give you affection
Ooh it's do or die
I am not the one to love you
The one to give you affection
I'll pull you in closer 'til we buckle
Eye contact so strong we'll never break
Could spend the day right here counting up ur freckles
Even though I know it's been sixteen since May

I must have said
Sometimes I feel adrift
You reveal your ways
At sometime today
How did I get here
And where will I leave
Oh, the peasant in me
So easily deceived
Sometime soon
The fool next to you
The wall you never noticed
Collecting your dust
Collecting your favors
That you, you believe are stolen
Oh, somebody will notice
And you'll be the one so easily deceived
So easily
So easily
So easily
How did I get here
And where will I leave
Oh, the peasant in me
So easily deceived
The classic structure consists of the foundation, the shaft and the capital. The photos were taken at the semicircular colonnades that connect the two communs at the western end of Sanssouci Park. The historical model is said to have been the colonnades on St. Peter's Square in Rome.

I said I was going to get some fresh air this weekend - and I did. I may even have gotten an overdose when I went to the West Coast during the storm on Sunday. But I did manage to take some pictures. This is the first one - I still need to process the rest, but I'm sure I'll find one or two more that are worth sharing.
it is said, in our family lore, that we are descended from citizens of every country that claims stubbornness as a trait ~grin~.. but oddly enough, given my name, not switzerland

7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

I’ve just read a comment from a photographer who said it’s time to stop shooting in black and white. He claimed we don’t see the world in black and white and it was something only done in the past due to the limitations at the time and it’s time to move on. Here’s a number of reasons why I think it’s critical to shoot black and white from time to time, and how it can help nurture your photographic eye.
Ansel Adams, Cartier Bresson, David Bailey, Karsh, Sebastio Salgado, Albert Watson, Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, Irving Penn, Daidō Moriyama, Sally Mann, Avedon – the list of master photographers, alive or dead, who saw black and white not simply as a technical limitation but as a creative choice, could be an entire article in itself. But why did they choose it?
Here are some key reasons:
1. Color No Longer Distracts
2. You’ll See Light Differently
3. It Helps Emphasize Emotion
4. The Timeless / Classic Quality From Black And White
5. It Amplifies How You Use Negative Space
6. It Highlights Shape, Form and Pattern In The Image
7. To Highlight Beauty and Skin Tones
8. It Helps Focus On Composition
So What About Color?
The argument of not shooting black and white because it’s a thing of the past is a little odd to me, especially given that color photography is not necessarily a modern invention. Kodachrome for 35mm cameras has been around since the 1930s. The far more interesting (and possibly meaningful question) may be:“Why is black and white still so prevalent today, given we've been able to shoot color for so long?”.
I still shoot color and love playing with it, but I certainly enjoy the challenge and creative push from shooting in black and white.
"My mother, she would look at me
She said, son, you've got a long road ahead
Son, some may roll and make you crazy
But don't forget these words I said
And don't forget what your name is
And know what the game is
From the North coast to the South coast
From country to country
Mind to mind
Generation to generation
From time to time
And to sniff across your mind
To go downtown
And to hang around
The House of The Rising Sun"

Like I said before... there is nothing "common" about a Common Loon.
When he flapped his wings after preening, I was lucky enough to catch this series of this extraordinary bird.
He was busy catching crabs and at times fighting with another bird in breeding plumage who repeatedly tried to drag him under and drive him across the water. Soon that relented and they began to tolerate each other. I think their hormones levels are high at this time.
I felt at peace as I lay down and watched these two birds go about their business. They couldn't care less about our presence as they swam closer and closer and directly to us. It was a magical moment as our faces met. Even in the moment I couldn't stop from saying "Wow". They cried out their wailing calls several times to each other. I never tire of that sound. I felt blessed to be in their presence.
Whenever life gets tough, getting out in nature and with the birds just lifts me back up again. This is especially true when I get to spend time in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my favourite person and one of my favourite birds, the Common Loon.
Walk with me through a peaceful canyon by a stream, surrounded by winter’s charms, and when we wake we’ll dance to birdsongs of spring…
It's said that if you hit the snowflake projected on the abandoned bank building at precisely 88 miles per hour, you'll be hurled back in time to the days when Ballinrobe Ireland was a lively town with over 30 pubs for 3,000 people. So far, nobody's gone farther than the window into the basement. Perhaps it's due to people trying to convert MPH to kilometres on the fly, as that's how Ireland measures distances in modern times.

Kaiser hates having his photo taken. He even knows when I try with my phone these days.
Happy Furry Friday everyone.
Wishing you a safe and healthy weekend
I've been sittin here
Tryin to find myself
I get behind myself
I need to rewind myself
Lookin for the payback
Listen for the playback
They say that every man bleeds just like me
And I feel like number one
Yet I'm last in line
I watch my youngest son
And it helps to pass the time
I take too many pills it helps to ease the pain
I made a couple of dollar bills, but still I feel the same
Everybody knows my name
They say it way out loud
A lot of folks fuck with me
It's hard to hang out in crowds
I guess that's the price you pay
To be some big shot like I am
Out strecthed hands and one night stands
Still I can't find love
And when your walls come tumbling down
I will always be around
Yeah
As it...hey
And when your walls come tumbling down
I will always be around
People don't know about the things I say and do
They don't understand about the shit that I've been through
It's been so long since I've been home
I've been gone, I've been gone for way too long
Maybe I forgot all things I miss
Oh somehow I know there's more to life than this
I said it too many times
And I still stand firm
You get what you put in
And people get what they deserve
Still I ain't seen mine
No I ain't seen mine
I've been giving just ain't been gettin
I've been walking that there line
So I think I'll keep a walking
With my head held high
I'll keep moving on and only God knows why
Only God
Only God
Only God knows why, why, why, why
Only God...knows...why, why, why
Only God knows why
Take me to the river edge
Take me to the river, hey hey hey

"Mama said to get back here and stop hiding!!" exclaimed the gosling to it's two siblings that were hiding in the tall grass.
So I said to my friend, Half Knee Half Biscuit, ‘’How do you fancy a trip to Dinorwic, I’m sure we can find a waterfall?’’ He would have normally jumped at the chance, however on account of his bad knee he merely gave just a little hop.
The weather forecast was poor, overcast, low cloud, frequent prepiccitation, in other words, just perfect for the quarry.
Dinorwic can be a dangerous place and there are a number of locations with ‘Warning’ and ‘Keep Out’ signs. Only the foolhardy will ignore such restrictions.
We saw such a sign on a fence saying ‘Keep Out’, beyond which was an even larger fence with a sign warning of danger, death, famine and pestilence along with the opportunity for 15 minutes of fame from the CCTV!
Some very ‘thoughtful’ person had even cut a small hole in this fence allowing the synaptically challenged to gain reasonable access, so, of course being the law abiding, upstanding citizens we are, we dutifully observed all these warnings and moved on.
So here is a waterfall that we did find.
"My advice to the women of America is to raise more hell and fewer dahlias."
William Allen White
Whenever I link a quotation to one of my images, I am compelled to learn about the author of said quote. If you are interested in such things, you might want to know this about the author...
"William Allen White (February 10, 1868 – January 29, 1944) was an American newspaper editor, politician, author, and leader of the Progressive movement. Between 1896 and his death, White became a spokesman for middle America.
At a 1937 banquet held in his honor by the Kansas Editorial Association, he was called "the most loved and most distinguished member" of the Kansas press."
Karl Barth once said that Christian doctrine is truthful only to the extent that it ‘points beyond itself and summons us to hear not itself, but [Christ].’ 17 The Christian tradition, in Williams’ view, is the extension through time of that act of self-dispossessing witness. Tradition is a theological reality. It is not meant to answer all our questions; its aim is to point beyond itself, to formalize its own unfinishedness, to hold open a space for new encounters with what Flannery O’ Connor called God’s ‘dark and disruptive’ grace. 18 Tradition keeps the church in contact with its own traumatic origins: the dark grace of an empty tomb.

Locked me in a room since I was young
I've never seen a morning sun come up
I'm employee of the month at a Ritalin club
Yeah, why do you think I'm so messed up?
They don't know where I am, I don't know where I am
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I am, don't know where I am
Don't know where I am
They said I'm an ana-ana-anarchist, I'm an anarchist
Ana-ana-anarchist, not like the other kids
Be prepared she said
But then I forgot the map
Man, I’m really lost.
My keychain safety items: 1) Cash canister with $20 note in case I'm ever standed in Arizona and need money for a beer and cheeseburger, 2) My trusty multi function Victorinox knife in case I need to cut down a tree to make a fire, 3) A mini LED flashlight in case I find myself in absolute darkness and need to see what’s biting my leg, and 4) A whistle in case I fall off a trail, roll down a steep ridge past a big log and get wedged under thick brushes next to a mosquito infested creek.......and need to get someone's attention. Louvignies Castle
Louvignies castle is said to owe its origin to a tower built in the 8th century, the Tour des Sarrasins. This tower would have been used to keep an eye on the traffic on the road from Brunehaut.
In 1716, the estate passed into the hands of the current owner's family by marriage. The current Louvignies château acquired its final appearance in 1875, after eight years of renovation work by Count Léon de Villegas de Saint-Pierre and his wife Ferdinande de Maillen. Count Léon gave up his diplomatic career in 1880 to become mayor of Louvignies.
The castle has 60 rooms and houses a wealth of family portraits, works of art, furniture and curiosities from the 19th century.
Countess Albertine de Villegas, the last descendant of the de Villegas de Saint-Pierre family, had no children. She adopted Jean-Marie de Moreau de Villegas and left him the chateau when she died in 1971.
Today, Florence de Moreau de Villegas de Saint-Pierre owns the chateau.
A few times a year, the castle opens its doors to the public.
------------------------------

On the afternoon of Saint Patrick's Day 2022, the Internets said that Norfolk Southern 1069, the Virginian heritage unit, was a trailing unit on a train heading east BNSF's Mendota Sub and that had stopped in Sandwich, IL. Since I pass this spot on my way home, I made it a point to stop if the train was still there when I left work a few hours later. Sure enough, it was still there. I rolled up with a setting sun making for a colorful sunset. This is a panoramic image showing the whole train, with NS 1069 front and center. To give a sense of scale, my car can be seen as a tiny speck on the far right of the image. While there's no featured green in this image, seeing my first heritage unit since before the Covid pandemic was like the pot of gold. And between the golden sunset and the Virginian's golden yellow, it's more than representative of the Leprechaun's gold.
