For Looking close... on Friday theme, "things with wings". It's a story of a young girl dying of cancer who believed that folding 1000 cranes would grant her a wish. One version of the story has it she only made it to 644 before passing away and her classmates finished the 1000 cranes.

One thousand origami cranes
The crane is a mystical or holy creature in Japan and is said to live for a thousand years. That is why one thousand origami cranes (千羽鶴, senbazuru, literally: 'one thousand cranes') are made, one for each year. In some stories, it is believed that the cranes must be completed within one year and they must all be made by the person (or group of people) who will make the wish at the end.

*Working Towards a Better World
Genocide is not just a murderous madness; it is, more deeply, a politics that promises a utopia beyond politics - one people, one land, one truth, the end of difference. Since genocide is a form of political utopia, it remains an enduring temptation in any multiethnic and multicultural society in crisis. -

Winter is Frankenstein. I forgot to ask him what he was wearing. He makes a great Frankenstein, don't you think?
... And you will fly all over the world.

Feeling a bit comatose after a long day of wedding shots yesterday that rendered too many bruises to explain. But Kelly's on her way and I'm busy getting my house (and myself) ready for a very fun day.
And yea, this is real. A little weathered and worn, but real. We found him struggling on the wet pavement and placed him in a field.
(Kore wa bokura no sakebi desu. Kore wa watashitachi no inori desu. Sekai ni heiwa o kizuku tame no).
"Este es nuestro llanto, esta es nuestra plegaria para construir paz en el mundo".
Detail of a larger work prepared for the Swell Festival of Sculpture 2021 Currumbin. The work is reminiscent of a novel for children by Eleanor Coerr titled 'Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes' which itself recalls the true story of Sadako Sasaki who had leukaemia attributed to radiation from the Hiroshima bomb who tried to make a thousand origami cranes following a Japanese legend in the hope of survival. She died soon after. The story conjures up fond memories of Japanese friends at the University of Illinois who gave the book to my son Ben.
📺 "Don't do this to me, Bev.
But I'm only doing it to me. Why don't you get along with your very own life?" 📺
bzzZZtt!
"See, George, this is the movie I wanted last week! Dead Ringers!"
"I was close! I got The Ring!"
"How is that close??"
...laughter...
📺 "Do you remember the first Siamese twins?
Chang and Eng were joined at the chest." 📺
"This is riveting! Horrific, disgusting, grotesque. Don't you think, Elaine?"
"Sure. It's Irons in his two best screen performances."
...laughter...
"What riveting? This is just a flick about separation anxiety. The Ring was much better!"
"The Ring! Who's gonna believe that. 'Seven days.' Give me a break."
bzzZZtt!
📺 "Remember how they died?
Chang died of a stroke in the middle of the night. He was always the sickly one. He was always the one who drank too much. When Eng woke up beside him to find that his brother was dead... he died of fright. Right there in the bed.
Does that answer your question?" 📺
bzzZZtt!
"What is that noise??"
"Sounds like my PC over there. I'll check it later."
📺 "Poor Eli.
Poor Bev. 📺
"Psh! 'The Ring.' What a joke!"

The children's peace memorial, Hiroshima.
Visitors to Peace Memorial Park see brightly colored paper cranes everywhere. These paper cranes come originally from the ancient Japanese tradition of origami or paper folding, but today they are known as a symbol of peace. They are folded as a wish for peace in many countries around the world. This connection between paper cranes and peace can be traced back to a young girl named Sadako Sasaki, who died of leukaemia ten years after the atomic bombing.
Sadako was two years old when she was exposed to the A-bomb. She had no apparent injuries and grew into a strong and healthy girl. However, nine years later in the fall when she was in the sixth grade of elementary school (1954), she suddenly developed signs of an illness. In February the following year she was diagnosed with leukaemia and was admitted to the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital. Believing that folding paper cranes would help her recover, she kept folding them to the end, but on October 25, 1955, after an eight-month struggle with the disease, she passed away.
Sadako's death triggered a campaign to build a monument to pray for world peace and the peaceful repose of the many children killed by the atomic bomb. The Children's Peace Monument that stands in Peace Park was built with funds donated from all over Japan. Later, this story spread to the world, and now, approximately 10 million cranes are offered each year before the Children's Peace Monument.
This is supposed to be scary shot. A companion volunteered to be Sadako("Ring").
But there was a sign that says "No Trespassing, Violators Will Be Prosecuted!".
