To recline is to listen inward—an invitation to ease the breath, soften the shoulders, and rest in a moment that asks nothing of us but presence. In the clamor of modern life, where movement is often mistaken for meaning, stillness offers a quiet rebellion.
It’s not laziness or retreat, but a profound form of trust: that we are enough without the constant proving. I think of golden light pooling on a carpet, a cat stretching unapologetically across a windowsill, or the way dusk pours itself gently into a room. Stillness, in these moments, is not absence—it’s grace.
To truly recline is to allow the world to come to us, rather than chase after it. The fire warms not because we tend to it, but because we draw near. In this softened state, we absorb more—beauty, clarity, comfort. We become porous to goodness.
Rest is no longer a reward for exhaustion; it’s a recognition of worth. There’s something sacred in that surrender, where movement gives way to meaning felt rather than forged. And in that space, reclined and receptive, we remember a truth too often forgotten: that stillness doesn’t diminish us—it completes us.
a pause in this architecture of place
reminding me of Sabbath, Shabbat
a sacred architecture in time
designed to be a healing space of Divine connection
reminding me to stop
to be renewed
to take a breathing spell
to rest in the cathedral of the here and now
to stop and breath with awareness
to tune into eternal time
to align Divine
to be anchored in what is true
Today, I was able to show my girls that their quiet time/bible reading/devotions don't have to be boring or stale. We did an exercise from the book "Sacred Pause" by Rachel Hackenberg--from chapter 8, titled "Tipping Sacred Cows". We adapted a few psalms through the style of Mad Libs. Rachel calls them Laudlibs. It's creative wordplay & spiritual silliness.
My absolute favorite line from this Laudlib of the Universe is: "The trees clap & the rain sings better than One Direction, while God makes graffiti with the stars." #nikkimakesstuff #sacredpause #laudlibs #spiritualmadlibs #write #journal
It wasn’t the dress or the stillness or the hour—
it was the way she didn’t move when the light arrived.
The Light Chose Her First is a moment steeped in reverence. Caught between fading sun and blooming shadow, she stands in quiet alignment with everything unseen. Rays pour in like memory, threading through gauze curtains, laying patterns on the wall that feel more whispered than cast. She doesn’t look toward the light. She waits for it to finish speaking.
Artist Process:
This image is a meditation in contrast—softness against structure, silence against illumination. The subject’s silhouette was composed at a side angle to enhance the impression of stillness within motion, with the rays of light forming organic diagonals that draw attention to her yet also move past her. The brick wall and vintage rug textures were preserved to deepen the warmth and tactile sense of time. Everything here—positioning, light scattering, the unlit face—was constructed to give weight to the intangible. The viewer doesn’t simply see her—they feel her waiting.

I'm reading a book by Rachel G. Hackenberg called Sacred Pause. (Same author I read during the 'Writing to God: 40 Days of Praying with my Pen' devotions for Lent that I LOVED!) It encourages you to stop & really take in the meaning of common words that are used about God & in the church & in my Christian faith. To think about the colors & emotions, or memories the words bring up, or simply the sounds that the words make when you say them. It's quite a different exercise, & the creative parts of me are soaking it up. I'm still learning to get it all out on paper though, without holding back. It's a challenge.
Today I focused on the word "mercy": Blue indigo #901...
A giant dark wave rises above me. When I should be crushed by the clap & thunder, clemency steps in, calms the tide, stills the motion of my bitter fate.
Compassion surpasses distress.
This is mercy.
