At the end of a beautiful day, after coming down from Furggstalden, we discovered a lovely view of Saas-Almagell.

A la fin d'une belle journée, après être descendu de Furggstalden, on a découvert une jolie vue sur Saas-Almagell.

Saas-Fee at around 1800 m (5906 ft), nicknamed "the pearl of the Alps", is one of the most beautiful resorts in Valais. The site once must have been even more grandiose with glaciers that descended practically to the village. Today, they have melted, but we still find superb remains of them in the heights.
The village is protected from all automobile traffic: we leave the cars at the entrance to the village in a large car park, and we then continue on foot.
Here we can admire the snow-capped mountains at the bottom of the cirque rising to more than 4000 m (13123 ft) : in front of us, the Alphübel (4206 m - 13799 ft); on the left, we see the Allalinhorn (4027 m - 13212 ft). On the right, we also see the Dom (4545 m - 14911 ft), the highest point of the mountains around Saa-Fee.
Note also the existence of a free pass offered to any visitor staying on the territory of the resort and its outbuildings. This allows us to use the cable cars and gondolas that take us to the heights at will for free. Needless to say, we made the most of it, given the dream weather we had!

Saas-Fee
Saas-Fee à environ 1800 m, surnommée "la perle des Alpes", est une des plus belles stations du Valais. Le site autrefois devait être encore plus grandiose avec des glaciers qui descendaient pratiquement jusqu'au village. Aujourd'hui, ils ont bien fondu, mais on en trouve encore des restes superbes dans les hauteurs.
Le village est préservé de toute ciculation automobile : on laisse les voitures à l'entrée du village dans un grand parking, et on continue ensuite à pied.
On peut ici admirer les montagnes enneigées au fond du cirque montant à plus de 4000 m : en face de nous, l'Alphübel (4206 m); à gauche, on aperçoit l'Allalinhorn (4027 m). A droite, on voit aussi le Dom (4545 m), point culminant des montagnes autours de Saa-Fee.
Signalons aussi l'existence d'un pass offert à tout visiteur hébergé sur le territoire de la station et de ses dépendances. Ceci permet d'emprunter gratuitement à volonté les téléphériques et télécabines qui nous emmènent dans les hauteurs. Inutile de dire que nous en avons bien profité, vu le temps de rêve que nous avons eu !

Oud Saas-Grund is een dorp in het Zwitserse kanton Wallis en maakt deel uit van de vakantieregio Saas-Fee/Saastal. Het dorp ligt op een hoogte van 1559 meter en bestaat uit smalle straatjes met authentieke huizen.

I will always remember the feeling of wonder stepping off the bus in Saas Fee. The view as my feet hit the ground was spellbinding. The village lies at the end of the road and the giant wall of peaks ahead was amazing.
