This year’s annual 24-hour Gayatri Yagna, conducted by Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda at Shree Peetha Nilaya, was eagerly awaited by many, and guests began to arrive days ahead of time to enjoy the Darshan event that preceded it. The morning began at 6 am with Guru Puja, followed by the yagna and mantra chanting in the Tent that would last the entire 24 hours.
As always, the mantra was chanted in the tent during the entire day and throughout the night until the next morning, while devotional songs gave variety to the tune. Each participant was given ample opportunities over the 24 hours to make offerings to Gayatri Devi at the yagna kund.
Paramahamsa Vishwananda has said that the Gayatri contains millions of mantras, and our focus while chanting it should be on Sriman Narayana, the Supreme Lord, the Ultimate Source of all. Most basic amongst its many meanings, it helps protect one from illness and accident, but it is much much more than that, as it spreads its influence throughout the world by becoming resident within our hearts.
Guruji has said that it means: We meditate on the radiance of the Supreme Being, our Creator and Protector and Source of Joy. May the Light of His Face inspire and guide our minds and open our hearts to Him and, by His Grace, let that Light radiate through us to others.
Concluding the yagna, Guruji encouraged everyone to join in a meditation to Mother Earth. Especially in this time when mankind's greed is so high and when the fires in the Amazon are still burning, He encouraged offering to Her all the mantras chanted during this yagna and all our prayers.

Swami Vishwananda
Swami Vishwananda is a spiritual teacher who was born on June 13th 1978 into a Hindu family on the island of Mauritius. From earliest childhood his sole interest was in spirituality and religious practices. He would visit churches, temples and mosques because he was drawn to the presence of the Divine and the Sacred. At an early age he realised his true Self and understood the reason for his incarnation. Since that time many people have come to him for his advice on spiritual and everyday matters.

I’m excited to bring this special guest on. I was at the Tantra Festival in Delhi. I had the beautiful privilege of connecting with Anahata. Not only did we have an amazing opportunity to connect as far as in the Tantric space, but also truly what I loved about this man is hearing about his journey, where he’s been and how he’s gotten to be where he is now. A closer view of the statue of Swami Vivekananda. He is perhaps best known for his inspiring speech beginning with "Sisters and Brothers of America," through which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893.(Pune/ Poona, July 2007)

As I walked past an indoor-outdoor eatery in Winter Park, Swami was sitting just inside, perfect for light. Swami?? That's what he said! It's his real name. He teaches math at the Ampersand School in nearby Longwood. www.ampersandschool.com/ Looking at the faculty, sure enough: Swami Howard. Clearly this an alternative school for the gifted. Swami is no ordinary teacher, and his students call him, Mr. Swami.
Many years ago he did computer graphics. Swami went into the history of mathematics, about how mathematicians look for patterns. He says that it's much more interesting than crunching formulas. Many patterns in biology can be expressed, and predicted by math. He then spoke about a new DNA base pair being synthesized and inserted into the E. Coli genome. This greatly increases the number of base pair possibilities in defining genes. Like I said, no ordinary teacher. His students are lucky, and had better keep up!
What caught my eye originally was the logo on his shirt (first comment). Of course, the reverse side had nerd stuff too.
Thank you, Swami, for allowing me to photograph you for the 100 Strangers Flickr group.

The Shree Giridhar Dham ashram was a historic event for Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda and Bhakti Marga as this marks the first BM ashram and temple in India. In addition to being India, the ashram/temple inauguration occured in the sacred land of Vrindavan.
