Headed to SXSWI to hand out some fun Flipboard swag to fans and make new fans! All thanks to the wonderful team at Flipboard! I love this app!
Brand new accommodation.
The 'old' swags were falling apart, with broken zippers and torn fly nets.
I liked the old swags as one could lie on the swag for a snooze and getting up was quite easy too: Swing legs out of the swag, put boots on and off you go.
These swags are a bit heavier and, imho, a more difficult to roll due to the extra fabric. But they are very roomy and little people like me can easily get changed inside the swag. The high sides provide excellent wind protection and keep sand out. I found getting in and out of the swag a bit cumbersome. But, once in, it feels like you're in a bath tub or a canoe. Very cosy :)
Edit:
I deleted my 'practical' information ...
Overall, I found this swag to be a bit of a pain in the neck to set up, to climb in and out of it and to roll. Due to the extra fabric, these swags are bulkier to roll and also a bit heavier. I can't even imagine what it would be like if it rained and how one would crawl into it from the head side, i.e. sitting on the wet ground, taking muddy boots off and trying to get in? I'd like to see a demonstration. I don't like swags on stretchers, makes it even worse getting in and out of the swag when it is raining.
I was once on a 4WD camping trip when it rained and this is what I did:
Put the swag on the ground near a tree with a few branches, set up the stretcher across the bottom part of the swag, tied a tarp to the tree, stretched it over the swag and tied it to the far long side of the stretcher. It looked like a mini lean-to and kept the tarp clear of the swag. The stretcher became a shelf to store my gear and boots on. I sleep much better on the ground and the swag stayed dry :)
Production! I spent the entire day yesterday at Rx's studio printing this TLC swag. Some are 2 color, some 3 color and some 1 color. All premium quality tshirts made with lots and lots of TLC!!! PM me for info if you want to score one of these sweet tees! :)
I am very skeptical about these figures, and I apologize for the "false" name if I totally biff the theme.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Glancing at a map we couldn't help but be curious as to what a pub would be doing 180km SW of Mt Isa in an area that appeared to be almost the middle of nowhere, and on a minor dirt road. On closer inspection, I could see the road could be used as a short cut between the normal Alice Springs to Mt Isa route which would cut going via Boulia and save about 240km. However, we saw only one car on the 186km dirt stretch through to the Tobermory station just across the NT border. The road was as expected—teeth chattering bumpy with frequent cattle grids. Along the track were beautiful red soils, sprinkled with struggling ghost gums that compete with mulga bush and patches of mitchell grass for infrequent rain. We were entertained by numerous colourfully painted car bonnets placed upright on the side of the road, with information, and stories about Urandagie. They were quite funny, and by the time we reached the pub our curiosity juices were bubbling.
We were not disappointed. When we fronted the bar, owner Pam welcomed us with a big smile and an informative nine page history package of the area completed with a postcard. Doesn't get much more hospitable than that! The bar opens out to a history museum at one end. Outside were three orphaned joey's (baby Kangaroos), a few Geese, and an assortment of historic engines from a bygone era.
Town population is eight adults and eight children. It was Saturday night, and the pub was putting on a BBQ to raise funds for a children's excursion. Kevin the works manager of a shire road crew had been so impressed with Pam's efforts to support the towns folk that he donated the meat, and an enjoyable time was had by the 30 odd people who turned up raising $1400 in all. Next day Pam hosted a Mother's Day tea and cake occasion. Her support and work for the district was amazing and even in our short 3 day stay we felt a connection to the tiny community. It was a nice feeling.
Pam had organised more car bonnet signs showing the best camping spots down by the Georgina River. We threw out our double swag and looked up at a crystal clear night sky with billions of stars twinkling as bright as I have ever seen. Despite several years of drought: up stream from the bridge were deep water holes where it was worth fishing for yellow belly. Down stream the river bed was caked hard sand, and we were able to ride our mountain bikes for an hour taking in magnificent river gums and startling the many Brolgas feasting on puddles full of little fish.
Surrounding Urandangie is the huge Headingly Station which covers well over a million hectares. In a normal year, it runs 40,000+ cattle. After several drought years, the herd has dropped to 25,000. That's still a lot of steaks .
Urandangie is lucky to have a sealed airstrip. The flying doctor calls twice a month and if visitors fly in the pub will pick them up and organise fuel.
This is definitely not a tourist centre but to get a feel for outback life, its history, and its big hearted people this is a great spot to stop over for a day or two.

I love brickforge. I really do. I love Cmorgenweck too, though. That shot up scrapmetal and clip came from him. The rest is BF, though. Gonna have some fun with that railgun...

Joe [White]: "Man, these things are so much lighter when you just drag them!"
Tom [Black]: "Hey look, it is!"
Joe [White]: "Yeah, but i don't know if we should be doing it the whole time--eh screw it, it's fun!"
Tom [Black]: "Uh Sir, i'd be careful if I were you.. do you not remember the tale of Little John?"
Joe [White]: "OH, you mean that tale of the Spartan who accidentally pressed the trigger-- and ended up blowing himself to bits?"
Tom [Black]: "Yeppers, that'd be the one. You don't want to end up like him, now do you?"
Joe [White]: "He was a moron----"
Tom [Black]: "--Doesn't matter Sir, it's the same case. Now, let's get back on patrol."
