None of this is for trade or sale, although trans-dark-blue bits might be - I don't really like them now that I've bought them.
Bits on the left are to be used as headlights and taillights. The mallets are two-piece builds, and can be taken apart for even cooler combinations. Wooo! The U-clips will definitely serve me well. The 4L bars are glow-in-the-dark - underside neon, anyone? And iPads could make nice winglets of some sort.
In my opinion, this is a step up in my approach to building 4-wides. If you're into purism, you may as well un-follow me now.
Yep, I did shell out a sum on this stuff. No trans-orange though - I could really use some of those. And some other trans-colours.

The winter of 2015 seemed a good time to explore the Australian outback. .
Being brought up with the Leyland Bros, I was ready — but I wasn’t sure about my partner. So, I painted a rosy picture of us adventuring thru red deserts, remote ancient geological locations, mulga bush silhouetted in incredible orange sunsets, camping next to crystal clear water holes covered in water lilies, Dingoes howling at the moon, and so on.
She didn’t take much convincing, she had read an inspiring book about Australia’s outback when she was 9 y.o. and hadn’t forgotten the romantic descriptions of dry deserts and resilient outback inhabitants.
Soon, we were the proud owners a 4WD Toyota FJ Cruiser, a double swag and some pretty basic camping gear. I figured when we were around towns we would recover from our bush bashing in a cabin or old pub.
*So how did our camping go?
Following is my report on how I see senior citizens roughing it in a small tent.
It falls into 3 different categories :
1.Camping with no facilities.--- Male feels like a genuine bushwhacker... female feels we are more like bush wankers. Dirt, dust, and flies get right up her nose.
2.Camping with facilities.--- The female becomes tolerant, occasionally a smile works across her face...especially if the camp site has showers, and when male cooks dinner on the camping grounds BBQ.
3.Camping in a motel or cabin. ---Female runs naked around the room chanting something about being a free spirit, going to the restaurant for dinner, and continually counts her two dollar coins for the laundromat! Male checks his bank account and calculates how many $150 nights go into the meagre balance!
* So in essence how did our cruising the dirt compare to our usual winter activity of cruising the GBR in our catermaran ?
Well I don't think we’ll be switching to a caravan, or selling our boat just yet, but we see the attraction and we did have a magnificent time and will continue to enjoy more of Australia's incredible inland in the future.

Brand new accommodation.
The 'old' swags were falling apart, with broken zippers and torn fly nets.
I liked the old swags as one could lie on the swag for a snooze and getting up was quite easy too: Swing legs out of the swag, put boots on and off you go.
These swags are a bit heavier and, imho, a more difficult to roll due to the extra fabric. But they are very roomy and little people like me can easily get changed inside the swag. The high sides provide excellent wind protection and keep sand out. I found getting in and out of the swag a bit cumbersome. But, once in, it feels like you're in a bath tub or a canoe. Very cosy :)

Overall, I found this swag to be a bit of a pain in the neck to set up, to climb in and out of it and to roll. Due to the extra fabric, these swags are bulkier to roll and also a bit heavier. I can't even imagine what it would be like if it rained and how one would crawl into it from the head side, i.e. sitting on the wet ground, taking muddy boots off and trying to get in? I'd like to see a demonstration. I don't like swags on stretchers, makes it even worse getting in and out of the swag when it is raining.
I was once on a 4WD camping trip when it rained and this is what I did:
Put the swag on the ground near a tree with a few branches, set up the stretcher across the bottom part of the swag, tied a tarp to the tree, stretched it over the swag and tied it to the far long side of the stretcher. It looked like a mini lean-to and kept the tarp clear of the swag. The stretcher became a shelf to store my gear and boots on. I sleep much better on the ground and the swag stayed dry :)
