Oscar Wilde's mother lived here: she was some lady... with a strong personality who should have fitted better in the Edwardian society. She was a litterated in her own right and kept a salon first in Dublin and then London until her son's trial and prison.

There are pockets of Chelsea which escaped the Victorian onslaught: one could still discover pockets of the former village and if not, enjoy the vernacular architecture built for those "well heeled" denizens who were part of the emerging middle classes.Now such modest habitations will kick one short of five million pounds or more.
