Last night at 10:45pm, William McIntosh sent me a text, "70% chance of awesome sunrise at Leo Carrillo Beach". I immediately declined and he sent back "Boo". After checking Bill's conclusions on NWS and Skyfire it only took 30 secs to succumb. Alright I'm in, I replied. Again I would have to be up and ready to go in 5 hours. Forget it I'm not going to be able to sleep I thought to myself and I was right. I spent the next 4 hours studying and watching Youtube videos about photography locations. I have now been awake for 36 hours straight.

During our last trip to Malibu Beach, Bill and I ran into another photographer on the beach that turned out to be a real nice guy. While we where loading up the car Bill had ask him if he knew of any other interesting spots in the vicinity to shoot. The man says that just up Pacific Coast Highway about 10 miles was a cool little spot that he liked to shoot on occasion. A little spot found around lifeguard shack three just passed the parking area he says. It was already after Golden hour but Bill and I decided to go and scout it out for a future trip. What we found was such a cool location which we were "Surprised" to find included a double arch, several small sandy beaches, a flat reef shelf and a pass through cave leading to a little hidden beach while during sunrise has a beautiful glow entering it from the east. This is a shot of one side of the double arch, the view of the double arch can only be captured during the point of lowest tide but during high tide it is possible to capture one side of the arch which is seen here. The sky exploded with color and Bill has now dubbed me his lucky charm after 7 of our last 8 excursions were blessed with fantastic light. I'll take those odds anyday. Funny thing, I was just thinking the same about him. Hehe. Hope you like it!!! If you do please leave a quick comment.

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great week ahead my friends!! :)

A view looking down Derwentwater and a distant glimpse of Bassenthwaite Lake

Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) I was stalking a little egret along the bank of our local reservoir when this heron suddenly burst out from the cover of the reeds in front of me. I just managed to get the camera on him but I don't know who was more surprised!

A rare encounter I likely will never see again! A stunning sight to see this beauty out in the open at dusk. He/she was looking out into the open fields, hopefully a big fat vole was had for dinner. :)

What a wonderful and unexpected surprise! Because of the bounty of abundant (some might say relentless, lol) sunshine this summer, the autumn Anemones are already blooming in August. This beautiful Anemone deserved to be painted.

I had no idea this guy was going to give me such a wonderful opportunity.

So at the very end of May we got caught in some snow falls on our trip. Thought I would post it for your Winter in July shot - to cool things down!

Most of the snow fell on us at higher altitudes like the Snowy Mountain Range in Wyoming but this was near Flaming Gorge!

Happy Smile on Saturday!

This Black-Capped Chickadee's attempt to startle the American Pine Marten resulted in very little reaction from the marten - - he was pretty chill you might say !

Visited Temecula, a city in southern CA known for its wineries. A beautiful city to visit and offers incredible wines and views. We stayed at a B & B and wasn't told about the hot air balloons! Having coffee outside that morning was such a nice surprise!

I just thought I'd upload a few more pictures of Ashala from my last shoot of her in the back garden. I chose this one because of the surprise look she has on her face...

While driving the Auto Tour Route at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge we spotted something ahead on the side of the road. There were three other cars in front of us looking for just that perfect bird photo. To our amazement they drove right past this beauty. We pulled up right next to the hawk, he was so close if we had opened our door, it would have hit him. We lingered there for a few minutes snapping away before he tired of us and flew off.

I knew there was a White-throated Dipper along the river I was photographing at, but I didn't even think that I had a chance at capturing this bird. It is very shy, hard to approach, not very common and has impressive flying speeds. It sure is a vrey challenging challenge. But I was hunting the Grey Wagtails, so I was more focused on those. Yet, while I was waiting for a Grey Wagtail, the impossible became possible. The Dipper came right in front of my hiding tent and I was able to snap a good photo. I was very surprised; never expected to capture this bird by mistake.

We were tired from travelling to the city that day and were pleasantly surprised to have a quiet evening in the heart of the French Quarter. New Orleans, LA

Plan was for Stanage or Higger Tor but they still had their heads in the clouds so made my way to Surprise View.

Not sure about this as woodland isn't something that comes easy to me so go easy on me:)

Taken in Bandavgarh, one of India's premier wildlife sanctuaries. This sub-adult tiger suddenly appeared out of the brush with his eyes trained on wild boar foraging 400 meters ahead. He was as surprised to see us in his path as we when he made a dramatic appearance from the brush as if stage curtains parted!

Guess who's coming!!!

Migrating Gadwall, we only see them here once or twice a year when they are migrating. Where male ducks sport gleaming patches of green, red, or blue, the Gadwall's understated elegance can make this common duck easy to overlook. Gadwalls breed mainly in prairie potholes—small ponds scattered throughout the Great Plains and Canadian prairies. Some also breed on tundra, deltas, and wetlands in boreal forests of the far north. In developed areas with few natural ponds, Gadwall may use stock ponds.

As I walked a trail at sunrise I came upon a glorious surprise.

Set the alarm for 6:15am. Checked the forecast which didn't look good. Raining and dark outside. I'll have another hour in bed. Wish I didn't. Arrived just a little too late for the spectacular light and rainbows. I did manage to grab this though. Not a great blend. Tricky.

Photographing from a bit lower of an angle resulted in eyes that seem to express surprise.

When SP conductor Gary Smart checked his paperwork at Roper Yard, he couldn't believe his eyes. Rio Grande SD45 No. 5331 was assigned to lead his Roper, Utah to Denver, Colorado Forwarder. Gary originally hired out on the D&RGW, and was ecstatic when he saw his train.

The RODVF 15 made very good time as it tackled the Wasatch Mountain grade and crossed the Green River Desert region of eastern Utah to journey's end at Grand Junction, Colorado.

Clouds in the sky after a rainy morning. I went to Oak Canyon to get out and smell the fresh air. This set was captured from the same spot on a hill top. I was lucky today. It was a good day.

I had seconds to get this shot. Good thing my camera was on and close to the correct settings.

Who would have expected to ever see her here, silently admiring the sunset from my Baja cabin? I tiptoed quietly, doing my best not to scare her away yet again. The soft click of the Leica shutter was barely audible. She did smile, I swear!

Quelle belle surprise....
