on the stormy Thursday of last week at the large pool in farmland this was an unexpected sighting.

This fairly small duck was introduced in Europe from the Far East quite a long time ago. There is a small population of escaped or deliberately released birds that survive in the wild in several countries.

Here in Flanders ( the North of Belgium ) less than 100 breeding pairs probably.

A fairly shy duck that nests high up in trees.

We found this pride several times at the edge of a large plain with lots of prey. Most of the time they were resting in an area with trees, bushes, shade and some water. They only became active late in the afternoon
