And her pale fire she snatches from the sun.”

Last Fridays Solar Eclipse viewed through England's fog and merky skies, well the Sun and Moon played a game of peek-a-boo through the clearing atmosphere.

Facts

The last coast-to-coast total eclipse in the U.S. was in 1918, when Woodrow Wilson was president. The last total solar eclipse in the U.S. was in 1979, but only five states in the Northwest experienced total darkness.

The next total eclipse in the U.S. will be in 2024. The next coast-to-coast one will not be until 2045.

The early minutes of a partial solar eclipse cast a crescent shadow over this wonder of the world, Grand Canyon.

An earthenware plaque spotted at Willowpool reclamation yard and mounted by photographic means on a weathered, painted board and framed with a carved wood effect created in Xara Designer Pro.

Made in fits and starts from 1999 - 2003. I needed a challenge to break away from the log cabin square and cool down my color palette. I like its happy-yet-calming vibe.

With the assistance of the resources available on the internet, I was able to witness the total solar eclipse from within 20 feet of the centerline of totality. This location was in eastern Oregon and had perfect viewing. The location had 2 minutes 9.3 seconds of totality.

I was able to get some nice pics, and had a wonderful experience. This area in eastern Oregon was fairly remote, and the weather was perfect. No clouds or smoke from the wildfires. I think I picked the best spot to attend this event since most of the three dozen or so other people around me were eclipse chasers. Many of them indicated that they put a lot of time and effort determining where they would view this event from. Some of the people I met had witnessed over a dozen total eclipses worldwide.

I have quite a few good pics, so expect to see more of them as time goes on. If you have never witnessed a total eclipse, I highly recommend it. It is easy for me to see why people chase these events around the globe.

Best viewed large.

We had a great privilege in southern Quebec on Monday. A total eclipse was observable in a long strip of Quebec among other places. I present to you here the diamond ring which is the last luminous burst of the sun preceding or following totality. We also see Bailey's beads which are pink pearls of light which also precede or follow totality. They result from the sunlight filtering through lunar valleys and craters. These two phenomena are only observable during a total eclipse and precede totality in this image. A rare, unique and moving celestial spectacle.

Correction : After further research into the total eclipse phenomenon I would like to make a correction. The pinkish prominences (composed of plasma) we observe are actually the chromosphere which is a thin pink layer of lower gas in the solar atmosphere just above the photosphere. Bailey's beads are visible in the upper right part.

The floating pagodas located within the downtown Shanhu lake of Guilin double as Buddhist temples with altars on their top floors and glow with distinct colors at night.
