an early morning ascent of "The Pinnacles" to wait for sunrise, the clouds were already gathered in wait as well ! The bright light isn't actually the sun- which was behind thick cloud, rather it is the reflection on the sea immediately below

Summit of the Gurnigelpass (1600 meters above sea) on a clear night. The environment is completely lit by the fullmoon. It's a so called 'supermoon', when the distance the the earth is the shortest possible, which makes him (apparently) shine up to 30% brighter.

The peaks in the background (from left) are: Nünenen, Gantrisch, Bürglen and Ochsen.

A view of the castle and landmark stone in Oban.

While sailing on any of the ferries, from Oban, Scotland, you will pass the Dog Stone, which is quite amazing as it was once a huge sea stack, but now it seems to be growing out of the land with trees protruding from its summit. Science tells us that this is made from rock known as Conglomerate, deposited about 415 million years ago, but I like the following story about this ancient stone.

The Dog Stone – Its name is derived from a legend that relates that this is where the giant, Fingal, tied up his dog, Bran, when he went hunting in the Hebrides. As Bran circled and struggled, he wore a groove around the base of the stone with its colossal chain and they say you can still hear its ghostly howls.

Mount Erciyes (Turkish: Erciyes Dağı) is a massive stratovolcano located 25 km (16 mi) to the south of Kayseri in Turkey.

Erciyes is the highest mountain in central Anatolia, located within the ancient region of Cappadocia, with its summit reaching 3,916 m (12,848 ft). It is considered to be the highest peak of the Anti-Taurus mountain range, a northeastern extension of the Taurus Mountains to the south, and belongs to the Alpide belt in Eurasia.

The volcano is heavily eroded, but may have erupted as recently as 253 BC, as may be depicted on Roman era coins.

I was able to visit my home state, Colorado, for Labor Day weekend.

This is the Mirador y Ermita del Espiritu Santo summit overlooking the community of Vera, in Andalucia, Spain.

This is the nearest town to the Villa we rented this winter and the conical shaped hill can be seen for miles around with the white statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus perched on its lofty summit.

I have taken lots of shots of this place, but on this night during our last week here, the sky was biblical, so I made a frantic dash for the hill and managed to get some shots before the clouds moved on and the November light went.

This is the site of an ancient Islamic settlement from the 12th Century when it was known as Bayra (Vera is actually pronounced "Bayra" in Spanish). Its origins as a Hill Fort go back much further with a Roman settlement on the Via Agusta route and a Carthaginian outpost here before that. Artefacts have been found here going back to the Bronze Age around 2000 BC.

The town of Bayra was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1518, with the epicentre around this hill. The modern town of Vera today was constructed a little further from this hill than the original settlement.

An easy hike with big payoffs for views, toughest part was the six miles of forest service road, it's one for the ages. I don't know if you will ever see the pics of the spectacular view from 5800 feet as the haze was so bad, but Bear Head Peak and Mount Rainier are just to my right and 1300 feet down is Cosplay Lake and my truck. I think in a couple weeks it's going to get a lot of orange yellow and red up here, time sure is flying.

This was not he first time when I saw the mountain sheep arriving at a summit of the bavarian alps short before sunrise. They seem to enjoy holding their summit meeting at the evening.

Taken with the Leica Q3 and optimized with a digital gradation filter in Lightroom to adjust contrast and colours, the light was very soft due to a rather cloudy sky in the west.

When I was reviewing my images on the back of the camera on the evening of our first day in The Lakes, I could have sworn I saw an image where I'd captured two people on the summit of Catstye Cam. However, I had trouble finding it when the images were imported into Lightroom. Pleased to say I finally found the image this morning.

I've uploaded the image in high res so you can click and zoom.

Denali has two significant summits: the South Summit is the higher one at 20,310 feet (6,190 m), while the North Summit has an elevation of 19,470 ft (5,934 m). They are both in view here.

The South Summit is the climbing target. The North Summit doesn't draw as many climbers.

A shot or two more of Denali then moving on.

Thanks for taking a look!

2.5 hours after dropping the bikes, and some considerable climbing, here we are at 1157 meters (3796 feet) and the summit of our first mountain of the day Beinn Bhrotain. I couldn't resist getting a little extra height by standing on top of the tri point!!

Beinn Bhrotain (pronounced Bane Vrottan meaning Hill of the Hound) stands at 1157 meters (3796 feet) and is the first of our Munros today. Monadh Mor (pronounced Monnagh Mor meaning The Big Hill) is our second and final destination and stands at 1113 meters (3651 feet). A short 5 mile cycle up Glen Dee gets us to the foot of the climb, then it's an 11 mile hike across rough and boggy ground to get there. An epic 8.5 hours, largely un-pathed, time in the hills gets us back to the cars just before full dark falls!

Snaking through the multiple curves east of Summit, Montana, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe grain train traverses Marias Pass on September 9, 1999. Up front is an eclectic group of motive power led by BNSF warbonnet GE C44-9W No. 781. Trailing the 781 is a former Santa Fe LRCX C30-7, a Burlington Northern C30-7, a Santa Fe EMD SD45-2B, and finally, another Dash 9 in Heritage II paint.

Was at Palmer Park the other day with Aurora when we ran into this dog named Summit and his owners. Aurora instantly liked him and they ran around together playing for an hour. It was nice to see her so happy and playing like a puppy again. Guess he got worn out too since he decided to lay in the snow for awhile.

Rio Grande GP40-2 No. 3094 kicks up up a little snow while cresting Soldier Summit on New Year's Eve, 1994.

As we traverse further along the cliffs at the edge of the Cairn Gorm plateau we can clearly the way ahead and the final climb up to the prominent rocky summit of Cairn Gorm itself.

Cairn Gorm, the mountain from which the Cairngorm mountain range gets its name, stands at 1245 meters (4085 feet) and is my 4th Munro of the season, my 27th in total. The hike (no bike this time) sees me covering a circuit of just over 7 miles and making an elevation gain of around 762 meters (2500 feet).
