I spent a long time thinking of a photo to symbolize this significant event in history. Although in some countries this happens everyday, the massacre in Paris, that saw 17 young artists killed, still should be broadcast as a violation to free speech and a warning against religious extremism.
I believe this photo reflects well what we, as humanity, are going through. This is a pensive and meditative time. Its time to take a step back and reflect upon what we expect of ourselves and of those around us.
Let's pay homage to those killed in the attack and hope the pain is soothed in the people who were closest to them.
Love is all there is.

This cartoon accompanies an article in French about the attack (pierrejaquet.com/blog/je-suis-charlie-.html).
13 January update: funnily, the same story is told by the cartoon chosen by Charlie Hebdo for the front page of the 14 January issue (even though its author, Luz, is far more talented than me).
16 January update: in the UK and USA, many newspapers have not shown the image of that front page cartoon to take care not to shake any sensibilities. But I do not see in what way it is disrespectful to show someone who mourns the victims of a terrorist attack. It is the opposite that would be troublesome.
rats man! i can never redo the same shot. but i cant give up trying either!

This schoolgirl dress (from Anna Sui’s spring 2010 RTW fashion show) is sweet as Candy paired with the Girl from Oz’s ruby slippers. Dorothy wears silver shoes in L. Frank Baum’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz but red ones in the movie The Wizard of Oz. Ruby slippers are far superior to silver – perhaps it took a costume designer to appreciate their Technicolor possibilities… Fashionshesays.com.
