As its English names suggest, the Gatekeeper (also known as the Hedge Brown) is often encountered where clumps of flowers grow in gateways and along hedgerows and field edges. It is often seen together with the Meadow Brown and Ringlet. This Gatekeeper was seen on heathland in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Saint John at Kaneo is a Macedonian Orthodox church situated on the cliff over Kaneo Beach overlooking Lake Ohrid in the city of Ohrid, North Macedonia. The church is dedicated to John of Patmos, the writer of Revelation, who has been by some considered to be the same person as John the Apostle. The construction date of the church remains unknown but documents detailing the church property suggest that it was built before the year 1447. Archaeologists believe that the church was constructed some time before the rise of the Ottoman Empire very likely in the 13th century. Restoration work in 1964 led to the discovery of frescoes in its dome.

The Carolina chickadee is a small passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is often placed in the genus Parus with most other tits, but mtDNA cytochrome b sequence data and morphology suggest that separating Poecile more adequately expresses these birds' relationships.(Wiki)

- www.portogallo.info/porto-norte/valle-del-douro/In Explore

Ortalis columbiana (Colombian Chacalaca / Guacharaca)

Endemic to Colombia, as its name would suggest, and the only chachalaca within its now relatively limited range in the central (Cauca and Magdalena) valleys of the country. It is found in both humid and deciduous forests, but the species’ range and population are both almost certainly declining, and it survives only in pockets.

After being thwarted for a 4th time at a photo shoot in a desired cave location a friend suggested this as an alternate location. Thank you for saving the day with your plan!

Some editing was done to clean up graffiti for a more pristine appearance (damn Sleestak's).

There are times when things just work together even when circumstances doesn't suggest it when you first start out. I decided to visit Furresø north of Copenhagen to try and capture water/landscape shots although the light was flat as a pancake when I left home. When I got there I found out that there was a light mist over the water and the sun was slowly making its way through the clouds. There was very little wind so the water on the lake was relatively calm which created a very serene feeling, which I have tried my best to grab.

The trees just stood there in some sort of majesty next to the lake and I had to get that on camera.

Because of the little wind and the comfortable temperature I had a really nice day out, helping me to unwind. I learned a lot about landscape photography as well, trying to remember and use the knowledge gained from the lessons from my recent masterclass from the Raw Room over at firstmanphotography.com. Excellent stuff!

I decided to publish both a colour and a black and white version of the shot because I couldn't decide which one I liked the most. There's a little more to come from this session but I haven't had time to post process it yet.

Playing with composition in this good location....a shame the fields are potatoes and not Lavender.....but more useful!

As its name suggests, Yellow star-of-Bethlehem is a golden-yellow, star-like flower that can be found growing in woodland on basic soils. Although it is rare, it can be very abundant where it does occur. It grows from a bulb, which waits dormant underground until spring.

Painted Lady Butterfly: -

This species is a migrant to our shores and, in some years, the migration can be spectacular. The most-recent spectacle, in 2009, is considered to be one of the greatest migrations ever, with sightings from all over the British Isles that are definitely on a par with previous cardui years.

This species originates from north Africa, and it has been suggested that the urge to migrate is triggered when an individual encounters a certain density of its own kind within a given area. This theory makes perfect sense, since this species can occur in high densities that result in food plants being stripped bare on occasion with many larvae perishing as a result.

Unfortunately, this species is unable to survive our winter in any stage. This is a real shame, for not only does this species often arrive in large numbers, but is a welcome sight as it nectars in gardens throughout the British Isles in late summer. This butterfly has a strong flight and can be found anywhere in the British Isles, including Orkney and Shetland. An interesting fact is that this butterfly is the only butterfly species ever to have been recorded from Iceland.

As all of the pictures I've taken in Lappland and posted here in the last few days this one is also an exposure bracket taken free hand without a tripod. This picture is a combination of two RAW photos.

Taken with the point and shoot Sony RX100 camera.

I've printed this in A3 and it looks wonderful!

So, do we need a tripod all the time and a medium format camera as some YouTube guys suggest?

Warthogs (Phacochoerus africanus) as their scientific name suggests are members of the pig family, found naturally in Africa, south of the Sahara Desert. Males, like this "big boy" can weigh 130-330 pounds (60-150kg). I think this well-fed one must be in the high area of the weight range.

The female and young males in the very large exhibit area gave him a wide berth.

Spent the last weekend in North Yorkshire, my friends took me to see some gardens in Arncliffe. I had never been there before it’s a most attractive village many of the houses are seventeenth century.

Arncliffe is in Littondale, one of the Yorkshire Dales in England. Littondale is a small valley that runs off the upper Wharfedale valley.. Situated on a gravel delta above the flood-plain of the River Skirfare, Arncliffe's houses, cottages, and other buildings face a large green, and behind them are green hillsides etched with limestone scars.

Teopea, Calabria, Italy

Tropea (Italian: [troˈpɛːa]; Calabrian: Trupìa; Latin: Tropaea; Ancient Greek: Τράπεια, romanized: Trápeia) is a municipality in the province of Vibo Valentia, in Calabria, Italy.

Tropea is a seaside resort with sandy beaches, located on the Gulf of Saint Euphemia, part of the Tyrrhenian Sea, on Italy's west coast and was named “Most beautiful village in Italy” for 2021.

A legend suggests that the town was founded by Hercules when returning from his labours at the Pillars of Hercules (the modern-day Strait of Gibraltar). Graves of Magna Graecian origin have been found near Tropea.

Along Tropea's coast, Sextus Pompey defeated Octavius. The Romans built a commercial port in Formicoli, approximately 3 km south of Tropea.

Records suggest that a priory was founded at Llanthony around 1100, and may have been built around a ruined Welsh chapel. The new structure was said to have been built at the behest of Walter de Lacy, a nobleman (Norman inevitably by then) who decided to devote his life to prayer and study.

Gradually others attached themselves to a growing band, who numbered around forty within twenty years, although in 1135 they all left for Gloucester, tired of attacks by the Welsh. Half a century was then to elapse before another member of the de Lacy family started to build here again, by 1217 completing the core of the new priory, although this was extended around 1325.

The ruins were Listed Grade 1 in 1956, a status also accorded to the Court Farm Barn, St. David's Church and the Abbey Hotel, all three of which are in the abbey precincts. It is in the care of CADW.

Llanthony Prory is in the Vale of Ewyas, which runs west of the Hatterrall Ridge in the Black Mountains. A largely single-track road runs through the deep valley from Llanvihangel Crucorney to Hay-on-Wye.

The Palm Tanager is one of the most widespread and familiar birds of the neotropics, from Nicaragua south to southern Brazil. They are common at forest borders, but also occur in the canopy of the interior of forest. As the name suggests, Palm Tanagers often are associated with palm trees, but by no means are they restricted to living in palms.

Another sad entry from my late aunt Edie's autograph book. The poppy would suggest that he didn't come back.

A treasure with great sentimental value, especially so, as we approach armistice day once again.

These large wading birds are a Schedule 1 species. In summer, they have bright orangey-brown chests and bellies, but in winter they're more greyish-brown.

Their most distinctive features are their long beaks and legs, and the black and white stripes on their wings. Female black-tailed godwits are bigger and heavier than the males, with a noticeably longer beak (which helps the sexes to avoid competing for food with each other).

They're very similar to bar-tailed godwits, which breed in the Arctic. Black-tailed godwits have longer legs, and bar-tailed godwits don't have striped wings. As the names suggest, the tail patterns are different, too. What they eat: Insects, worms and snails, but also some plants, beetles, grasshoppers and other small insects during the breeding season(Courtesy RSPB).

Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it’s much appreciated.

Chestnut-headed Bee-eater, Merops leschenaulti, Beberek Kepala Coklat

As the name suggests, bee-eaters predominantly eat insects, especially bees, wasps and hornets, which are caught in the air by sorties from an open perch.

This pair is doing 'love feeding', which is common among wild migratory birds. The male is making the female fat, so she can produce better quality eggs in order to get healthy chicks for survivability of next generation. Don't you wish your husband doing that too ? hahahaha

On a recent Flickr meet-up at Davenport Beach, I met up with Joshua, James and Bryan. Joshua suggested we go to this cool beach located near Four Mile beach. After a short walk and some weed whacking with our tripod we arrived at this cool place. The tide was low but the clouds were minimal, so we worked with what we had. The best part of this meet up was hanging out and eating the hamburgers at "Betty" burger in Capitola. A must have for anyone visiting the coast. Have a great weekend and thanks much for visiting.
