We had some interesting clouds and light yesterday evening so I decided to experiment stacking some of my filters for a Long Exposure. I like the photo, it has something, but not happy about the noise. Well still lots to learn. Any constructive criticism more than welcome.

Have you ever sat on a hillside overlooking a small beautiful cove that runs into a deep blue sea 🌊 behind us, having a conversation with four Shelties….If not, I suggest that you ought to try it sometime….As it can be quite a rewarding experience….Ok, I agree that it can be a job getting a word in edgeways’ sometimes….But I like to think that I can be a good listener when put my mind to it, especially when the conversation is about Maysie having trouble getting her directions to her food bowl ever since she had a stroke last October leaving her head on the tilt and her brain has not come to terms with that and likes to thinks that her head is perfectly upright. Making her feeding a bit problematic, but no big deal as she coupes well….But Millie has come up with a solution to the problem by suggesting buying a much bigger food bowl for her to target into……And guess what….She saw one in a boutique shop on our way up here….But because it has pictures of dogs around it sold from a boutique shop, the price is £18 sterling……As I start to buck at the price, Halo stops me right there, saying that Millie Jazz and himself would raid the CraZyGang treat fund and empty their pockets and do whatever it takes to raise the £18 needed to buy the big food bowl for Maysie, which for once left her speechless with gratitude…..And yes this this is a true story, and did I not say those conversations with Shelties can be a very rewarding experience…Sigh…Oh yes indeed they can….

There is no collective noun for Wolverines... But someone suggested a 'Bub'...

Solitary bees are not simply bees who have left the hive and are now alone. There are about 200 species of solitary bee and, as the name suggests, they live alone, although in truth they often nest close to one another. They don't produce honey or wax. Because solitary bees do not have a store of honey to protect they are non aggressive, meaning they are safe around pets and children. The males generally have no sting and the females will only sting if handled roughly or trod on.

As its name suggests, the Chalk Hill Blue is found on chalk downland, although limestone downland is also used. This is a highly-variable butterfly and many named aberrations of this species exist. Adults feed primarily on Common Bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus).

This male Chalk Hill Blue was seen on a hillside in Surrey.

Ah this world falls on me

Dreams of immortality

Everywhere I turn

All the beauty just keeps shaking me

I'm running

(this world falls on me)

To the end of the earth

(with hopes of immortality)

I'm swimming

(everywhere I turn)

To the edge of the sea

(the beauty keeps on shaking me)

And I'm laughing

(this world falls on me)

Cause I'm under a starry sky

(hopes of immortality)

This world was meant for me

One of our visitors suggested a tighter crop on this pic...so, I used Picnik, the Flickr editing program, to do just that and posted the new version. Shows more of those beautiful eyes! = )

The quote is really from a recent press conference related to suggesting citizens experiment with an anti-malaria drug (hydroxychloroquine) as treatment for the Covid-19 virus.

This church is not mentioned in Domesday Book, but its architecture suggests that one had been there since Saxon times. The additional higher chancel arch, is typical of Saxon construction.

Excavations in the corner of the present chancel revealed the outline of a small apse, and short nave, all lying within the present two cell church. At approximately 9 ft in length, this was by no means spacious, and it was demolished in the early 13th century to make way for the present chancel, which would have been constructed to provide for the increased amount of ritual and ceremony which services then called for.

The lower chancel arch dates from the late 13th century, whilst the chancel itself is about 1200.

The nave is in a mixture of styles. The round pillar supporting the the east bay of the nave arcade dates from about 1170, and with a square abacus and scalloped capital exhibits typical work of the Transitional-Norman period. The next pier is typical Norman, with regular masonry and square impost.

The west window is Perpendicular, and in 1527 the open roof of the nave was constructed. The south aisle or Lord's aisle was reconstructed in the 16th century.

And for something brighter, my flowery self is still here ...

As the name suggests, Arctic Terns breed in the Arctic, but they are also a common breeding bird in Britain, where we have four other regular breeding terns (Common, Roseate, Sandwich and Little). But in the Arctic they are the only tern species that breeds. After breeding they migrate south to Antarctica, a journey of c10,000 miles. I photographed this one in Svalbard where there was 24 hours of daylight, and they spend their winter in the long days of the austral summer, so they see more daylight than any other creature on the planet. I once found a large flock in our winter deep in the sea ice in Antarctica www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/25408258373/in/photolist and if you look closely you can see they are in non-breeding plumage with white foreheads and black bills. The oldest ringed Arctic Tern was 31 years old and is likely to have flown more than half a million miles migrating between its breeding grounds and wintering grounds. Not to mention all the flying around it does while feeding and nesting.

While staying in Sydney, my friends suggested trying to catch a sunrise at Bondi Beach. This was an awesome chance to shoot and I particularly wanted to try and capture movement of water. After waking up late, sprinting and missing the train, and finding a cab at 5:30am we made and I was able to take this picture.

Additionally, this is my first time post producing a picture using light room. Any comments, tips or criticism are welcome. My goal was to try and keep the photo natural but enhance the image and try to balance it overall. Thanks!

just a note ...it is not always like this ...it is 55 today.. the 28th but, it will be warm again tomorrow.. but, there are many days just like this photograph shows..

Actually, I'm not nearly as frazzled as this suggests. Things are going very smoothly, and I'm on number 5 of 8.

Late night last night, but tonight I should be able to get some sleep while the computer does the hard work.

A friend of mine suggested the girls needed some time to unwind so six of us said "What The Hell." We ended up at Tulum & are sitting in the hot tub at our Villa. We have been sitting here relaxing having our "girl talk." I will be posting more photos of our vacation as we do things.

Well, like the last offering of Digital Art from a Blank Canvas (DABC), this isn't straight-up and pure, as it were. Again, experimenting with PNG images and now, to boot, a Print Screen image also! Has the man got no conscience, I ask you? We're kind of rolling into a digital mixed media sort of phase, I suppose but hey! That's why I like this art form... the sky's the limit and the boundaries endless, it seems.

Of note: The Print Screen image is of a computer game that gets advertised (read: I got no choice but wait it out) when I'm playing Free Cell. I figured, if I got to sit through it, maybe I should make something of it. The game is Crazy Candy Soda, or something like that... shows how much I actually pay attention to their stupid ads.

I used this PNG file: PNGWING.

Might I suggest a little listen to this (I love well constructed and produced pop music): 'Hero' - Faouzia... and she's Canadian!

I returned to my uni building to have a play. My block I was in for 4 years has the most crazy stair case. But as I was at the top of it I saw this cool shot. And this is it. The world out side lined wonderfully. I love crazy blocks if colour and the hand rail. A very surreal cimpostion, but I love it. :-)

This image is two hdrs blended together. I spot metered the building out side and took a 7 bracketed exposure and then spot metered the corner of the wall and shot another 7. Processed for different dynamic range in photomatix and then edited in photoshop. Wanted to make the inside look smooth as I can as the world outside looks very janged.

Hope you enjoy?

My sister suggested visiting the Brookside Gardens' Butterfly Experience and I'm glad we went. There were so many flitting beauties to view and enjoy. I'm making an ID guess on this one, so any corrections are appreciated.

A break from my Maui photos. It's not like I really wanted that but not sleeping in was so worth it.....

For Mission24: Caution.

Not quite what I envisioned, but I finally got to 1) use my tripod and 2) take this shot I had in my head. Sadly, it really was pouring rain when I took these so the mechanics of it wasn't so easy. I don't traditionally wear such flimsy stuff in 54°F and rain. Oh well, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

This wrap-around yellow warning panel was suggested as a variation on my previously-published ScotRail DVT, but I’ve elected to finish the image in InterCity livery to match the accompanying Class 89. In truth, this wrap-around style of warning panel is not best-suited to the streamlined designs of either the Class 89 or DVT. The later InterCity swallow scheme (only applied to the Class 89 in preservation) was a much better choice. Thanks again to Flickr user Clagmaster for the base image (30-Jun-23).

Friends, when I was in my mid-40s (before I ever picked up a camera) an intuitive/seer told me that I was an artist who needed to be making art. I resonated with what she said. I immediately bought some art materials and started making art. No instruction. Among the first images I made were many mandalas ... all about the circle form. I recently came across some of those early creations in an old portfolio and had them made into digital images so I could share them with you. This one, Cosmic Abstract, was made with art markers on poster board (and countless hours of obsessive detailing, lol!)

My intention was to suggest a many-layered multi-dimensional reality wherein the unseen, due to its vastness, can only be pointed to, but is both very real and more monumental than all of that which can be seen. Since I will be 'graduating' from Planet Earth this month, sharing these is a now-or-never deal. More to come. Many blessings to you all. Thank you, from deep in my heart, for your interest in my work. ♥ K.

(p.s.: the "Taken on November 3, 2016" under the image is incorrect. That's the date I loaded the digitized image onto my computer. I created this piece sometime in 2000 or 1999.)

This is a re-do that some out there may have seen before.

I have been putting a lot of time into how I process and hopefully this will help the overall standard of my shots.

Now on Facebook

To many, my photographs may suggest that I'm someone who walks the hills capturing scenes as I find them. This certainly hasn't been true in recent years, with the desire not to miss an opportunity often leading to me remaining stationary for sometimes hours. What 'hillwalker' hangs around in the same place more than they actually walk in the course of a day? The joys of hillwalking are becoming a distant memory, as I now find that my camera is indispensable &, as such, the photography will inevitably disrupt any ambitions to cover any remotely satisfying distance. There are days, though, that sometimes provide a small opportunity to turn the clock back & indulge in a bit of exploration.

With the confidence of knowing that the day was set fair, & that I had hours to spare before things got interesting approaching sunset, I set about climbing little Beinn Duirinnis, a hill that rises abruptly behind the village of Bonawe. I had surmised, looking at the map, that its higher slopes may yield a useable photogenic outlook over Loch Etive; one that could be tangibly 'different' from my other favoured places. Duirinnis's rocky summit provided magnificent views all round & satisfied the child-like explorer in me no end, but, here's the thing: with each upwardly step on the hill, my intended subject matter, Starav, sank into the mass of high hills that lay beyond, its lordly dominance over the head of Loch Etive just slowly collapsing. I had plenty of time to retrace my steps, thankfully, bidding farewell to a memorable hill-top as I descended to all but a couple of hundred feet above the loch, to the spot you see above. The normal instinct to gain height can sometimes lead the photographer astray.

By the way, this is my favourite photograph from the whole winter just past.

and knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.”

Kylie suggested a change of direction this week as we're on a mini break, a getaway away from the coast .. We haven't ventured into the hinterland of NSW before, so why not?

I've seen plenty of images over the years of fields of canola and the cherry blossom in bloom in and around Cowra.

I had heard over the socials that the season was off to a late start this year, but a get away is still a getaway :-)

Did pass a couple of promising fields of canola about an hour out of town but locally it's fields of green for now ... I can appreciate now how spectacular how it should be in person and we'll be making future trips back out this way for sure.

Wanted somewhere to sit and have lunch after we arrived and finding the high point usually pays off as it does in Cowra - Bellevue Hill has some brilliant panoramic views from the east thru to the northwest.

The cloud overhead at lunchtime was for me at least pretty exciting - very high whispy cloud with mares tales flowing from horizon to horizon.

Coming back for sunset was a given at this point which just left the rest of the afernoon to explore and relax.

Releasing these ones in reverse order as I really wanted to show the finale first .. it was something special with the glow in those clouds hanging around well into dark.

The boring technical bit..
