I really like this blur effect when I can include people on the streets. For me, the added dimension of people inside a blurred world makes a better artistic impression.

Created in elements 15 using a layer mask to add and subtract the effect.

Super Spectrum RYYB Sensor

A new generation of camera sensor RYYB has been dashed out to replace over forty years old traditional RGGB (Red-Green-Green-Blue) sensors. Huawei P30 Pro Smartphone makes a history, it is the first smartphone use RYYB (Red-Yellow-Yellow-Blue) colour scheme for it's camera sensors. It even set a record in camera history.

The question is, RGGB use the base Red Green Blue elements to recover all the original image colour from the sensor, but how can RYYB colour scheme reproduces an image without using green colour element? It is a Super Spectrum RYYB Sensor. Huawei said they use a special algorithm that use subtractive colour mixing calculations to recover all the colours. Actually they just simply invert the Yellow colour to form a green colour.

The advantage of using two Yellow elements is that it increase the total incident light of the sensor by 40%, therefore Huawei smartphone is able to boost it's camera ISO to a record breaking of ISO 409,600. It is a Super ISO phone.

The changeover to winter time will take place on Sunday October 29, 2023 at 3 a.m. It will be necessary to subtract 60 minutes from legal time. It will then be 2 o'clock.

The time change was introduced in France following the oil crisis of 1973-1974. Since 1998, time change dates have been harmonized within the European Union. In all member countries, the changeover to summer time takes place on the last Sunday in March.

and the change to winter time on the last Sunday in October,

As this system is increasingly contested by citizens and a growing number of member states, an online consultation on the end of the time change was launched by the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly in 2019. It received 2,103,999 responses.

According to this consultation, 61.16% of participants had a negative or very negative experience of the time change and 83.71% wanted to put an end to it. If the system was removed, 59.17% of respondents chose to stay permanently on summer time.

On March 26, 2019, MEPs voted to abolish the seasonal time change. This reform should take effect in 2021 after the choice of time (summer or winter) by each EU member state.

To date, given the current situation, everything is called into question, the file is found under the pile, certainly for several years.

Here is my Macro Monday captures taken today for the theme this week that is "Back in the Day".

This was my grandfather's calculator he used for work and for doing taxes. Can add, subtract and multiply.

Captured here at f/32, ISO 100 for 15seconds.

The numbers I entered into the mechanical machine is the 'date' around when these were made.

- As a row can be identified as three or more identical or similar items arranged in an as much as possible straight line, we can see here 8 rows.

- Primary colors (or primary colours) are sets of colors that can be combined to make a useful range of colors. The primary colors are those which cannot be created by mixing other colors in a given color space.

For subtractive combination of colors, as in mixing of pigments or dyes for printing, the primaries normally used are cyan, magenta, and yellow, though the set of red, yellow, blue is popular among artists.

Fifty Schades of Grey? NO they are 256!

Gray is created in additive and subtractive color mixing when the proportions of the respective primary colors are the same, but the brightness is neither maximum (white) nor minimum (black).

Gray is a color stimulus that is darker than white and lighter than black, but produces no or only a small colored impression (color valence).

So gray has no colorfulness, it is an uncolored color.

The gradations between pure white and pure black (black and white scale) are called grayscales.

the grayscale table has 256 gray tints.

A particular aesthetic view of a popular statue, dated to about 340–330 BC, Antikythera Ephebe. It is one of the most brilliant products of Peloponnesian bronze sculpture; the individuality and character it displays have encouraged speculation on its possible sculptor. It is, perhaps, the work of the famous sculptor Euphranor. He held a spherical object in his right hand, and possibly may have represented Paris presenting the Apple of Discord to Aphrodite. It has also been suggested that the youth is a depiction of Perseus holding the head of the slain Gorgon.

Ephebe was found in 1900 by sponge-divers in the area of the ancient Antikythera shipwreck off the island of Antikythera, Greece. It was the first of the series of Greek bronze sculptures that the Aegean and Mediterranean yielded up in the twentieth century which have fundamentally altered the modern view of Ancient Greek sculpture. The wreck site, which is dated about 70–60 BC, also yielded the Antikythera Mechanism, an astronomical calculating device.

Nach dem Modell von Helmholz gilt: Grün ↔ Magenta bedeutet komplementär.

Modern color theory uses either the RGB additive color model or the CMY subtractive color model, and in these, the complementary pairs are red–cyan, green–magenta, and blue–yellow.

Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī c. 780 – c. 850, formerly Latinized as Algoritmi, was a Persian scholar in the House of Wisdom in Baghdad who produced works in mathematics, astronomy, and geography during the Abbasid Caliphate.

In the 12th century, Latin translations of his work on the Indian numerals introduced the decimal positional number system to the Western world. Al-Khwārizmī's The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing presented the first systematic solution of linear and quadratic equations in Arabic. Because he is the first to teach algebra as an independent discipline and introduced the methods of "reduction" and "balancing" (the transposition of subtracted terms to the other side of an equation, that is, the cancellation of like terms on opposite sides of the equation), he has been described as the father or founder of algebra. His work on algebra was used until the sixteenth century as the principle mathematical text-book of European universities.

He revised Ptolemy's Geography and wrote on astronomy and astrology.

Some words reflect the importance of al-Khwārizmī's contributions to mathematics. "Algebra" is derived from al-jabr, one of the two operations he used to solve quadratic equations. Algorism and algorithm stem from Algoritmi, the Latin form of his name. His name is also the origin of (Spanish) guarismo and of (Portuguese) algarismo, both meaning digit.

Another quick blending play for Sliders Sunday, this one based on an image of oil droplets on water in a shallow ceramic saucer.

I used the same approach as before:

-Process in a standard way.

-Duplicate the result, rotate half a turn, and blend with Subtract blend mode.

-Merge the result to a third image layer, stretch the layer a bit using Transform, and blend with Screen mode.

-Add brightness and contrast and play a bit with the colours using an HSL adjustment.

I like the textured effect we seem to have ended up with. That comes mainly from the ceramic saucer.

The in-camera starting point is linked in the first comment as usual…

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

Seeing a dark-plumaged heron is intriguing.. a black heron or 'Dimorphic Egret' ?

The intriguing sub-species Dimorphic Egret that occurs commonly in East Africa closely resembles the Western Reef-Egret, until you look for the differences and subtract the similarities. This one has a bright yellow feet 'golden slippers' as an identification mark, a dark slate gray body with a small white streak on the throat.

The black heron (Egretta ardesiaca), also known as the black egret, is an African heron. It uses its wings to form a canopy when fishing.

They are found exclusively in the eastern hemisphere with a strong presence in Africa and the Middle East. There are two subspecies, E.g.gularis (western) and E.g.schistacea (eastern)

Primarily a coastal inhabitant, foraging on shorelines and in estuaries, but can also be found at some inland water bodies. In the Red Sea region the breeding season is from June to August

Happy Valentine's Day

You are the flame that lights up my heart

you are the warmth that holds me so I'm not alone in the dark

you are the reason I carry on every day

you are the sunshine that casts every sunrise my way

you are the one who lets me be me

you are the stars, the moon and the sea

you are the light shining bright in the night

you are the comfort that eases my plight

you are the one whose arms I want near me

you are the one whose charms still endear me

you are the one who inhabits my dreams

you are the one who stitches my seams

you are the one who keeps me from falling apart

you are the one who deserves all of my heart

Every day I swim; my life flows like a stream

every night I meet you in the land of my dreams

every life has a meaning and a means to go on

every heart may lay waiting for a love; for a song

I know what is real; I know what is not

but I'm happy to daydream; to feel; love a lot

in the blink of an eye we will fall into dust

but I carry you with me; in love I still trust

nothing detracts from a true loving heart

nothing subtracts though we are forever apart

I know I'm romantic; I know I'm a fool

let us be wrapped in my romance; let me give you my all

Happy Valentine's Day from my heart to yours

I will love you forever and forever be yours.

Yellow is the color between orange and green on the spectrum of visible light. It is evoked by light with a dominant wavelength of roughly 575–585 nm. It is a primary color in subtractive color systems, used in painting or color printing. In the RGB color model, used to create colors on television and computer screens, yellow is a secondary color made by combining red and green at equal intensity. Carotenoids give the characteristic yellow color to autumn leaves, corn, canaries, daffodils, and lemons, as well as egg yolks, buttercups, and bananas. They absorb light energy and protect plants from photodamage in some cases. Sunlight has a slight yellowish hue when the Sun is near the horizon, due to atmospheric scattering of shorter wavelengths (green, blue, and violet).

M31 the Andromeda galaxy, can be found about 2.5 million light years distant. The galaxy contains 400 billion stars, though some estimates say up to a trillion stars. The galaxy is destined to crash into the milky way in the distant future. Does life exist, most likely it does.

This image, my best yet, is not an accurate representation of the true colour of the galaxy. But I can say the blue colour in the outer spiral arms are regions of young hot blue stars, whilst the orange central core area, is densely packed with much older yellow stars, these cannot be resolved, as they are to far away. The mass of foreground stars across the image all reside in our galaxy, the milky way. The smaller galaxies, at the bottom of the image M110 and M32 just left of centre are both gravitationally tied to the Andromeda Spiral.

The Way We Were

Diameter of 20 meters and a depth of 5 meters, is a pond filled with only spring water.

It will change subtly the color by adding and subtracting light.

When looking at the clear pond, you can see how the water has sprung from the direction of the bottom.

The famous view of Oia after sunset, often seen under clear skies, this one was taken in the rain under an umbrella, the original image was phosphorescent blue as per my Canon 6D result using auto white balance, I had to add tons of red and decrease tons of blue, then add green to shadows, and subtract some more blue from the highlights to make it more like what I saw.

It was the coldest night of the year 2016 here in Toronto, with temperature down to -26C, and wind chill adding to (or rather subtracting from) it. Lake Ontario was steaming, and the shallow water behind the windbreaker was almost completely covered by ice, with only a small patch remaining. The birds that decided to stay here through the winter had a very tough night. Wild geese were trying to sleep sitting on ice. It would be a sad sight – if not for the couple of swans in the water, patiently waiting for the morning. And then it came, cold but very beautiful...

After coming up with the title for this picture, I googled it – and found this song by The Lone Bellow: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CKS7qWayDk I’ve never heard of them before, but thought this might go well with the photo:

Another two-image set with a standard edit and a version for Sliders Sunday. It’s of a white paeony with yellow twiddly bits, subsequently twiddled to something quite different.

I’ve done this sort of thing before with a flower and quite liked the result. The basic approach is to duplicate the flower image layer, use a Diffuse adjustment on the top layer and then try various blend modes on that layer to blend it with the underlying layer. Difference, Subtract or Negation modes seem to produce quite interesting effects The result is often quite dark, but colourful, so you just need to brighten it and twiddle the colours… or mess about with it another way ;)

This version was blended using Subtract. The underlying image layer was formed of two, duplicated image layers blended with Colour Burn at 26% opacity.

I’ll post a link to the in-camera image in the first comment as the standard edit took it some way.

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

It's been a long while since I last visited the ravine. Its a beautiful flowing brook and waterfall, especially during peak times of rainfall but it appears lots of fallen and washed down debris now competes with the view of the falls. Still, there is a beauty within the Chaos. I will return to see how the greenery of spring either adds or subtracts to this pell-mell of debris.

A composite of three images generated in Dream by Wombo entailing a lot of manual cloning work and merging in PS. Some reconstructive, additive, subtractive and transformative post-work was also applied. Admittedly the composition is a bit too busy, but as far as a proof-of-concept experiment goes, I'm reasonably happy with the results.

DUO is lead by German-born architect Ole Scheeren, whose best known for his work with OMA on Beijing’s CCTV headquarters.

Titled ‘DUO’, the twin towers are not intended to be conceived as autonomous objects, but defined by the spaces they create around them. Their curved facades engages the city and frames a “new civic nucleus” at its base, while featuring premium offices, a five-star hotel, 660 high-end residential units and signature retail space.

The design for DUO subtracts circular carvings from the allowable building volumes in a series of concave movements that generate urban spaces – a kind of “urban poché” that co-opts adjacent buildings and symbiotically inscribes the two towers into their context.*

I liked how the snowy Owl flight series came out so thought I would try it with a Great Gray Owl I photographed a few years back with friends Jim Chagares and Kirby Flanagan.

This was the GGO seen in the Kingsville Ontario area back in 2012.

I had to subtract several images from the sequence due to overlap and size, the finsihed image was 400 MB in size, I reduced it around 90 MB to post to Flickr.

I enjoy collecting cameras just about as much as taking photos. OK, maybe more. I've been adding and subtracting gear for a long time. Each year, I do an inventory of what I have. I just completed this year's audit. The list helps to prevent me from returning home and saying, "Oh, I guess I already had one of those." These images are of what I have on (proud) display in my lower-level lair. (*sigh* There are still a couple of plastic storage tubs packed away with an unsorted 50 more.)

Spent this afternoon with a couple Spotted Towhees flitting around the hillside of Pride of Madeira flowers. I took some in the shade like this one and some in that late afternoon beautiful light. The palette of vibrant colors behind this one was striking to me. I actually subtracted a lot of the saturation from the background. Click for large view.

This is another of my sunset abstracts created with intentional camera movement. Up until now I have waited for the sun to dip completely below the horizon, but recently have been experimenting with shooting just as a small portion of the sun is still visible, which gives that small bright streak. Curious to know if you think this adds or subtract from the impact.
