Interviewer: So what is your favorite thing about the sport?

Me: Oh God. I have to pick a favorite? Well, I'd say winning is definitely up there! *laughs and wipes his brow* Hmm. To be honest I'd have to say its that feeling right before a match and there's this...feeling moving through you. You don't know if you're gonna win or lose but that sweet burn of excitement just gets ya so pumped, you know? And you know deep down you have what it takes to win. You just gotta go out there and give your all."

I've recently been broadening my music tastes and have more recently discovered Bob Marley for a few particular songs. I admit reggae is not my typical jam but I am growing more appreciation for it. And then I came across the song "Kaya." I already knew that he was singing about cannabis; the amazing plant that it is. I don't pretend to be a great interpreter of song lyrics, but this one spoke to me more deeply.

In my eyes, he's using "rain" as a metaphor for the problems we experience such as when we use the phrase: "When it rains, it pours." So I'm thinking he's singing about getting high and rising above those problems that drag us down.

Well in my household, we use cannabis as a medicine which helps us do just that. Doing so it helps us rise above the shit and live a more enjoyable life. So those days where the rain is pouring, we wake up and have some "kaya" and it helps to feel good about life.

Serenity of the Storm was inspired by the pose: Stigmata Martyr from By My Mannequin?. As soon as I saw the pose, I knew it had lots of potential! I saw myself in the middle of a storm, arched and letting myself get soaked by the rain and listening to the rumble of thunder all around me; just absorbing that chaotic, beautiful energy of the storm. I watched as the storm clouds began rolling in, distant thunder booming and steadily getting louder and louder. It was sure to be a good one! I kicked off my shoes and walked straight out to the field and laid out, staring up at the darkening sky. With a boom of thunder and flash of lightning, the sky suddenly opened up and I was immediately drenched by the downpour. I closed my eyes and arched up my back almost as if in offering. Gods, this was bliss. The chaos and power behind the storm was its own brand of magic. There was a special kind of serenity of the storm and I was living for it.
