We drove up to Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge and didn’t have very high expectations. This being the end of Summer, most wildlife has flown to greener pastures. As we were driving through the auto tour, we spotted this young deer with its mother. They were enjoying the sun and munching on the vegetation. The youngster watched us for a minute then started stomping its hooves as though to scare us off.

The African elephant is not just the largest living land animal but it has an enormous brain size to match. Their brains can weigh up to a whopping 5.4kg and are, without doubt, the largest brain of all animals living on land.
This young deer was stomping the front hoofs upset at something in a distance. Initially I thought he (I think it was a he, although no antlers) didn't like the noise. There is always work happening in the park.

Friends & Family: Nearly 20 years old at the time, Rio Grande SD40T-2s No. 5400 and 5405 rest between assignments in their old stomping grounds at Helper, Utah the afternoon of Feb. 28, 1999. The late 1990s were a great time to watch and photograph Rio Grande “tunnel motors” here in their native habitat. On most occasions, a visitor could find at least 12 on site in the yard, running on a local, or working a manned helper to Soldier Summit.
