These stocks were originally kept at the Welsh Cross at the junction of Bull Stree, Dale End and High Street. They were removed in 1806 to the yard at the Public Office in Moor Street. When the old police station there was demolished in 1906 the stocks were moved to Aston Hall.
Holy Trinity Stocks. Wooden stocks have probably stood on this spot since the 16th century. They were used for the punishment of minor crimes and nuisance until changes in the law in 1858. The original stocks are displayed within the church, these replicas being set up in 2006.
They've thrown Francis in the stocks for wearing mens clothing. I knew that the law might catch up to her eventually!

Ledbury Stocks
These stocks are now on display at Avoncroft Museum. I haven't seen any like these before. What do you suppose all the different holes are for? My guess is they are an attempt at making them a 'one stock fit all' apparatus. The large circular holes are for the legs to fit through, the semicircles are maybe to accommodate the hands of children and then the triple , club-like holes at different heights would be for male and female transgressors. What do you think?
