Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb
You know better but I know him
Like I told you, what I said
Steal your face right off your head...

Phil Lesh, one of the founders and bass player for The Grateful Dead, opened a bar/music venue in San Rafael, Ca. on Valentines Day, February 14, 2012 called Terrapin Crossroads, a name compounded from one of their many records…The main music room was dubbed ‘The Grate Room’ and I had the privilege of catching Los Lobos play there…Trouble came knocking with the Covid pandemic and the club was forced to close…They tried several ideas afterwards but nothing took hold and the club formally closed on Halloween Sunday, October 31, 2021…
Lesh died on October 25, 2024, at the age of 84…
I was crabbing in San Francisco last Thursday and the day came to an early end due to the king tides so on my way home, I jumped off of the freeway to see what had become of the old venue…Surprisingly, the building was still for sale after it closed and a small shrine had developed in front of the door to The Grate Room…The ‘Steal Your Face’ mosaic is still imbedded in the concert at the door…
What a long strange trip it’s been…

"...Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space
It trembled and exploded, left a bus stop in its place
The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began
There was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land..."

I created this graphic with an illustration I recreated in Adobe Illustrator. I brought it into Adobe Photoshop to include photos I made at a festival last month. The Jam is a Grateful Dead cover band from Roanoke, Virginia.

Grateful Dead Dancing Bears, this was a very busy piece of blotter art, the sheet consisted of 500 1/4" squires, each squire had a Grateful dead dancing bear printed upon them, the background consisted of a large image of the Grateful Dead clown art by Rick Griffin with a sort of Steal Your Face design, the middle of the Steal Your Face was the face of LSD creator Albert Hofmann, the reverse side shows five larger dancing bears, 130µg blotter, Europe, circa 2010.

[Hello and thank you for checking out my photographs, I would like to build up an archive of vintage blotter from as far back as I can, but vintage blotter tabs aren’t the easiest of things to come across, so I need your help, if anyone has the odd tab or two that’s been kept from years ago, I’m only interested in single or a couple of tabs and not whole sheets, I would like to purchase or even lend these from you, if you don’t want to sell I will post them back to you once I have photographed them, I will also send you a packet or two of any poppy seeds that I have available. I know this is a long shot but I think that it is still worth trying; remembering I am only interested in vintage blotter, thank you for your time!]

Free pattern! I'm just put red and blue dots on the correct sides to show what colors those areas should be filled with, rather than filling the whole areas, cause I'm laaazy. (The green X marks the center!)
I built this cornhole (man I hate that name) game last week. Thought the dead theme was a good touch. Took almost as long to paint as it did to build.
Seeing this at this time of year reminds me that, in the late 80s, I used to go see the New Years run of shows at the Oakland Coliseum.
