Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, bowling to England's Haseeb Hameed on the second day of the Sydney Ashes Test. Cummins became captain of Australia's cricket team at the start of the series, a rarity as fast bowlers have hardly ever been considered for the role.
Former quick and NSW captain Geoff Lawson used to say this was because older administrations were mostly ex-batsman who considered fast bowling to be beneath them. General thinking also went along the lines of it's hard to set fields from the boundaries and to focus on field placement and bowl at the same time (although bowlers do a lot of that anyway).
So, a tip of the hat to Australia's 'fast bowling cartel' of Mitch Starc (270 wickets at an average of 27.51), Josh Hazlewood (215 at 25.53) and Pat Cummins, currently the best in the world (178 at 21.63).
Hazlewood's injury this series enabled his fill-ins great opportunity. Scott Boland at age 32 probably never expected to play a Test, but was a local pick for Melbourne where he had phenomenal figures of 6 wickets for 7 runs in England's second innings. After Sydney, he now has 14 career Test wickets at 8.64! Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser also had great returns in the Tests they played.
England had a 'great escape' in the Sydney Test, which ended with Australia unable to take the last wicket in fading light as time ran out on the fifth day.
