A few years ago ...okay, a couple of decades ago.... a good friend and I would go camping, sometimes without a tent, just sleeping under the stars. We now get together once a year and rent an Forest Service cabin in Oregon. This shot was taken on our trip this last July.
This isn't the greatest of shots, but a friend at work was asking how I go about capturing the Milky Way, so I thought I'd post up this shot and give some details.
I'm by no means an expert here, but I'll share what I've learned.....
1) First, I really wish I had a full frame camera....but alas, I don't.
2) You need to be away from cities and light pollution.
3) No moon or light from the sun. (i.e. shoot between astronomical twilight times)
4) Use the highest ISO you can and still get a usable photo. (I used 1600 for this shot) Noise reduction software is going to be a must for your final image.
5) Use the widest aperture you can and focus at infinity (I was at f/4.0 here)
6) Wider focal lengths will give a large view and allow for longer exposures. Rule of thumb to keep stars from having trails is exposure (in seconds) = 500 / focal length. On this shot I used 16mm (effective), so I should have been shooting at 30 sec, but I pushed to 60 to bring in more light, since my lens can't open up to f/2.8.
6) Lastly, you're going to have to do some processing if you really want to bring the colors out of the shot. To get the image above, I used levels, curves, and layer overlays in Photoshop.
Boskord Defense ={Daedalus line}= Mark 6 Special Sniper Rifle System
----------------
Cartridge: 7.92x57mm, .338LM, .338NM, .300 WinMag
Magazine: 3 or 5-round magazine
Accuracy: High
Rate of fire: Bolt-action
Range: ~1100 meters, depends on type of cartridge
Sometimes your standard carbine may start to have a hard time trying to hit that target. Maybe you need something more advanced? Maybe you need something extraordinary? For this, we make you the most advanced weapons you can find, but do not sacrifice the lower costs.
Mk.VI SRSS - Lucky if you don't die after hearing it
Y'know, we never were a big fan of bolt-actions. I mean, c'mon, it's the same shit, in a different toilet! Yeah sure, there are some cooler ones among them, but y'know what I mean. But this doesn't mean that we can't build bolt-actions!
Mk.VI is a new rifle from us. It is based heavily off from the Longsword 202 ERASER's reloading system. You reload it by inserting the magazine from the loading bay at left. It's a fairly smooth and easy process.
It is known to be comparably much more lightweight than most of its competitors. That is because of the high usage of polymer and skeletal stuff. Homever, those ''flimsy'' looking skeletal stuff is actually real tough - They are usually made from metals such as titanium, stainless steel, iron and et cetera! This provides the user some ease when lifting it AND lots of toughness!
It is known to have some very good characteristics - You'll need that when you're busy shooting people! It also has an adjustable palm shelf. The cheek rest is also adjustable! And it has a laser mount for all your range-calculating needs and many rails for your tactical needs!
It is a great, cheap sniper rifle. It is used by man countries all around the world - List is a bit too long!
Our weapons are known to be made of cheap, easily-available and reliable material. With the swift, accurate and incredibly cheap power of the Boskord, you will rule the battlefield - All by the Turkish power!
---------------
A remake of my older product. Whilst prolly not visible at the first glance, inspired by the Longsword 202 ERASER of DX:HR. I really enjoyed doing this. I hope you enjoy viewing it now!
Oh and yes, I will release that scope. Along with some others, possibly.
--------------
Credit goes to IRC crew, for helping me out during production!
I will also make an Obrez-ish version of it, too! Stay in touch!

Dusk shots of Dublin's Four Courts - Supreme, High, Circuit and formerly Central Criminal - are popular. This shot on the River Liffey quays was taken on a “Walk With Me” Offshoot outing – teams of four get prints done of their best image and compete with other teams within the club. Our team was led by Kevin and the other members were Rory and Gwen.
Our goal was capture the “blue hour” around the end of civil twilight, which on the night was at 5.22pm (for anyone checking the exif , my camera clock was still on summer time!). For about 20 minutes around this time, its dark enough to get the full effects of the lighting from the streets, buildings and vehicles but the sky is dark blue rather than black. The series posted by Gwen ranges from her first shot taken at 5.06pm (her camera was still on summer time also) when the sky was still grey to the last one at 5.45pm with an almost black sky.
This shot was taken at 5.24 pm with an exposure of 8 seconds, at f11 and ISO 200. Obviously, with an exposure of this length, a tripod or other firm support is essential – I used my Manfrotto 055CX3. This model brings the camera to my eye height without use of the centre leg, which is good because a camera mounted on an extended central leg is more vulnerable to shake. In calm conditions, however, I raised the camera well above head height to the full extent of the central extension to reduce the converging verticals or falling back effect. Of course this meant that I had to compose and focus using liveview but I do this anyway for my tripod-mounted landscape shots – I like the larger view of the scene with 100% coverage – compared to the smaller view with 95% coverage in the viewfinder. Two other liveview advantages are the 5x and 10x magnification options for precise manual focusing on the desired spot and being able to engage with both the scene and the frame as the light changes. I used f11 to get good depth of field - softness due to diffraction can start at apertures smaller than f11 on APS-C sensors. Use of smaller apertures also increases the “sunstar effect” around the street lights – these tend to be more dramatic at f22 and below – so it you want this, some diffraction is unavoidable. ISO 200 is convenient to remain well short of 30 second exposures, after which slightly more inconvenient manually timed bulb exposures are needed.
Finally, I chose this simple composition from my visit because it had a good combination of sky and artificial light, it had only a few raindrop blurs to clone out and because it was different from the images posted by the other team members. Additional processing in Lightroom consisted of a slight crop, adjustment of the exposure to darken the dark areas, increasing blue saturation in the sky and sharpening.

In the popular family board game Slovak Railway Station Scrabble (commonly known as SRSS) Bratislava Hlavna Stanica will net the player a score of 36. Although to some this may seem a decent score, regular players will know that the 'Holy Grail' is Železničná Stanica Podunajské Biskupice which will yield a total of 82 points. According to the official rules of the game, each player must play the full name of a railway station in the current Slovakian networth, the majority of stations (unlike BHS) include 'Železničná Stanica' in their name so at least 39 points are assured on most rounds of a game - the letter scores are obviously the same as in the original Scrabble (Z being worth 10 for example).
The game is played by two to four players on a square game board but unlike the original version in which the game board is made up of 15x15 (inch) grid of cells (individually known as "squares"), each of which accommodates a single letter tile, in SRSS the board (not surprisingly) is set out on a 40x40 game board, consequently the standard game board used in europe is 102 cm (slightly over 1 metre) in width and so is usually played on the floor or a very large table.
Ironically the borough of Podunajské Biskupice (a village incorporated into the city in 1972) is on the south east margins of Bratislava and is actually only 3 stops and 15 minutes up SK 131 (Ciganskej Štreke) from my home address. In full honesty there is another location which also yields a board-busting 82 points - (Železničná Stanica) Oravský Podzámok in the north of the country near the Polish border - but I chose to give the glory to my near-neighbours in this narrative.
SRSS - the idea Christmas gift for all the family!

At Depot Corner in Chilwell stands this Philips SRS lantern, witch does its job every night along with LEDs, Thorn Alpha 4s and fellow SRSs on the final stretch of High Road leading up to the corner with Attenborough Lane.
Never mind the cables, but inside the Philips logo is visible (go on - find it!) as well as the bulb and whatever else it needs to run. Where the lantern meets the pole I think there should be a grey cover but that seems to have gone.

EDIT : DAMN YOU FUCKING FLICKR QUALITY ! YOU DOWNGRADED MAH MODEL :'C
The reason for this report from Koleth? One fine Saturday morning, a teacher did not come to our class, Form II K. Bored to death, I looked outside from the first floor towards the Girl Guides Headquarters and saw, just outside my reach, a papaya tree with almost ripe papaya's. One was calling out my name. So I climbed out of the window, grabbed the vertical bar and tried my level best to reach for the fruit. After several attempts, Alan Almeida, the only person in the class more agile than me, decided that he would step out of the window and hold on to the bar. I then grabbed on to his shoulder and reached out and plucked the papaya. Yes, the one calling my name. We cut the papaya with a Swiss Army knife (that I still carry in my pocket today) and shared it with our class friends. Well, instead of reporting this acrobatic feat to Cirque Du Soleil, someone reported it to our class teacher, Miss Behl, the best teacher I have ever had, who Ajesh remembers as being very pretty, but whom I more remember as having an hour glass figure. The authorities found our act particularly despicable as in those days we grew kunde, okra, muhogo etc. in that patch between the classrooms and the boundary wall as part of our shamba work. The proceeds of the shamba work went to TYL. The papaya would have sold for Tzs 2.00 I was told that I had stolen from everybody who had contributed to nurturing the fruit of that tree....

Helping to fill the void of passenger services on SK 131 between previous operator ÖBB (ceased services prematurely on 30th September) and Leo Express (commencing operation on 10th December), ZSSK's venerable Okuliare (Glasses) 754 032 departs platform 3 of Bratislava Nové Mesto (Železničná stanica Bratislava Nové Mesto to give it it's full name and worth a cool 68 points in SRSS) with a late afternoon service from BHS to Komárno.
The locomotive and members of similar classes (750, 753, 756 and 757), which were built by ČKD in the former Czechoslovakia between the late 60s and late 70s and are now spread throughout both countries, all come under the wonderful collective name(s) of Okuliare/Brejlovec (depending which side of the border you are on) for obvious reasons.
The phrase to view (or look) at a situation or memory "through Rose-Coloured Glasses (or Spectacles") refers to someone who sees things with a happy or positive attitude that fails to notice negative things, leading to a view of life that is not realistic.
An example of this (in my head anyway) would be to reflect on those days between 30/09/23 and 10/12/23 along SK 131 with lots of lovely loco-hauled services such as this one rather than contemplate the reality of Leo Express's fleet of 21 Alstom LINT 41 2-car DMUs which scuttle back-and-forth through here now every day.
