Stando fra le ombre è più facile trovare la strada verso la luce

Buon weekend :)

While at Emerald Lake (see www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/20328054333) and enjoying a beer I spotted a few loons in the distance, that kept my attention for a long time. I wanted to make a picture but everytime when I pointed my camera, they swam further, leaving me with suboptimal results. So I ordered another beer, forgot about them, and left after een hour or so. When crossing the bridge -25 meters further- however they were swimming both under my nose, and I hurriedly took my camera, and just got this only picture that shows the magnificence of this amazing bird. I cursed myself afterwards, missing the opportunities but i am still happy with this result.

From 11 june till the 25th of July, I traveled in Canada. Starting in Brighton Ontario, where my sister lives at the border of an amazing part of lake Ontario, I flew to Vancouver, and Vancouver island where I took the boat at Port Hardy to take part 1 of the Inside passage, to Prince Rupert in BC. Two days later I took part 2 to Skagway in Alaska. When coming from Skagway Alaska, you can take the train to Carcross. it is a very scenic train ride that halts at Bennet lake.

And then to Whitehorse and further on by car to Kluane National park in the Yukon district. Whitehorse is situated at the border of the Yukon. Frow there I flew back to Vancouver, rented a car, and traveled three weeks in the BC- and Alberta Rockies, visiting the famous, and less famous Nature parks like Banff and Jasper. Last few days back to Brighton Ontario to enjoy lake Ontario once more, before going home. A picture of my itinerary can be found on Facebook (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152940536581759&set...).

4000 pictures later, it is quite a task to show the right stuff, although the stunning scenery guarantees at least a few great shots to share. Objective will be to make a book (for myself mainly), and that might take a while.

I hope you will enjoy the impression of my travel, one that equals earlier journeys to Alaska and south America, this journey was the first in the digital era, and equally intensive because of all the hiking activities every day on and on. I loved every minute of it.

Thanks for the visits, faves and comments its greatly appreciated.

The Spot-breasted Oriole (Icterus pectoralis) is a bright orange and black songbird native to southern Mexico and Central America, known for the distinctive black spots on its breast. It was introduced to southern Florida in the late 1940s and has since established a population there, inhabiting neighborhoods with flowering and fruiting trees. These orioles build long, hanging nests and feed on berries, nectar, and insects.

Quiet Spot

I was out for an explore recently and found this quiet restful spot. A beautiful grassy little hollow with a stream and small waterfall. I sat for a bit to enjoy the peace before taking a few shots.

Can you spot the Skylark in the field of rape seed flowers? My attention was drawn to the bird listening to it's beautiful song.

The Parable of the Sheep and Goats is found in Matthew 25:31-46.

In this parable, Jesus uses the example of a shepherd who separates his sheep from his goats in order to help his followers understand what judgement will be like.

Jesus explains that people will be separated into two groups:

Those who have lived good lives and believed in God will be put on one side and have a place in Heaven

And

Those who have rejected the belief in God and sinned in their lives will be placed on the other side and will go to Hell

-- So much for a kindly God that loves all! The bible is full of contradictions.

The books that make up the Bible were written by various people over a period of more than 1,000 years, between 1200 B.C.E. and the first century C.E. The Bible contains a variety of literary genres, including poetry, history, songs, stories, letters and prophetic writings.

The last two days of our Varanger trip were spent on the island of Hornøya between tens of thousands of birds. One of my personal targets for that visit was a flying Atlantic Puffin in a snow blizzard. Unfortunately for me I have to visit the island again as there was no snow in the air when the puffins were there. Shit happens as we noticed when we all went home covered in hundreds of white spots, carefully laid upon us by droppings from the air. Anyhow, the photograph below was taken during a short burst of sunlight peeking through the clouds, carefully lighting up one side of the Puffins face.

The Spot-crowned Barbet is found from western Panama to northwest Colombia, with separate subspecies recognized west and east of the Panama Canal Zone. Like all Neotropical barbets, this is a striking-looking bird. The male is mainly black above, with black, yellow and white-patterned underparts. In addition, the female also has the face and throat entirely black. Spot-crowned Barbets inhabit primary forest at low and mid elevations, reaching to 1200 m but usually occurring lower. They forage mainly in the midstory to canopy, taking both fruits and insects, and sometimes forming small bands of up to ten individuals. They are also known to follow army ants, at least occasionally. The species is speculated to be a short-distance migrant in some areas. Almost nothing is known about the Spot-crowned Barbet’s breeding biology. doi.org/10.2173/bow.spcbar1.01

Hola....zomberos.....anche oggi tiriamo le fila della giornata:

Come è andata?

Boh.....che ne so!

il solito tran tran, le solite corse, le solite incazzature, in fondo poco ci cambia a noi, mica viviamo in uno spot!

Li avete presenti?

Tutti belli, curati, ben sistemati, sorrisoni a 36 denti, lavori affermati, cucine in ordine e macchine lavate.

This lovely harlequin cat resides at APCA, an NGO in Canelones, Uruguay, which I had the pleasure of visiting last year. APCA offers a refuge for feral, endangered, and abused cats, as well as farm animals rescued from abuse. Their mission is to guarantee that they live a peaceful and comfortable life in a large natural environment, with appropriate shelters and boundaries to keep them safe.

I have been to Cypress falls a few times now and have never stumbled upon this spot. I was looking for the trail between the falls and accidentally found this little hidden spot where you can see the lower falls better than at the regular viewpoint. I wanted to get closer but the ledge was very slippery and I was alone and envisioned myself plummeting to my demise!!! Kris

A yearly Occurrence. They show up, nice and shiny and no spots. Every year, for a long time.

Aucune inquiétude , le vent poussait ces nuages menaçants vers le large, le ciel bleu était derrière moi !

No worries, the wind was pushing these threatening clouds out to sea, the blue sky was behind me!

Still exploring the new forest to discover new cool spots.

Saw plenty of 7-spot ladybirds last weekend, either on gravestones or in/on vegetation! Occasionally with other species!

Pics below viewable large.

Train spotting? Nah...too easy. Plane spotting? Nope...too lightweight. Here in Australia, we like shark spotting hehehe! But what I don't like is shark culling. It's their ocean, so let them be.
