Zibska Dalliance Deux

I recently purchased a glass ball, and have been itching to experiment with it. I wanted to take a picture of it on black and somehow light it up so that the sphere would be lit, but not the black background. I tried a bunch of different things, and ended up circling it with a string of Christmas lights so that it would capture the reflections, but not the lights.

Smile on Saturday - Sphere on Black

Serravalle Pistoiese

This was a 80m high gas tank once.. Standing inside of such a huge and completely empty room was simply impressive. It has his very own sound atmosphere, never heard anything similar before...

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 5th of March is “sphere on black”. Looking at the theme in my dining room, I immediately thought of the Art Deco column lamp standing atop a china cabinet next to me. A gift from my mother some Christmases ago, the chrome lamp has its original Art Deco spherical ornamental shade with its undulating geometric designs. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

Smile on Saturday! :-): Beads

A macro view of a night light bulb, taken for the Flickr Friday group theme, "Unreal." The view is from the top, giving the illusion of a sphere.

The frame represents a span of one-inch across and was illuminated by window light at 3-o'clock.

Fingerprints and imperfections on the glass gave me the idea to spin the sphere to blur them out. I used the torch function from my mobile to light it from behind.

My favourite type of Canon balls...

Large and small spheres and their reflections.

Technical info:

This is a one-exposure image of two spheres: a clear glass marble and a 3" crystal glass ball. The spheres were placed on a piece of aluminum sheet metal. The aluminum sheet was placed on a 24" x 24" piece of semi-translucent acrylic, which was in turn placed on top of a [pro]master VL1144 steady studio light aimed vertically up at the ceiling and used as a tabletop.
