Using my own photos of the Eurotunnel train to create this 'warp speed-image'.
Happy Sliders Sunday once more! ;-))
Found this on the internet:
~~Warp speed is an example of a phrase that entered the public consciousness through science fiction and eventually gained enough popularity to end up in the dictionary. The expression was popularized on the science-fiction show Star Trek in the 1960s. On the show, warp speed referred to a specific concept, namely the idea of faster-than-light travel. Within a relatively short period of time, Star Trek gained a devoted and intense following. Fans were soon discussing the fictional concepts of the show, including warp speed, with great enthusiasm. Eventually, the term warp speed was adopted by the general population. In the process, however, it lost its specific fictional meaning and came to mean simply "the highest possible speed."~~ www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary

When the wind is right, you can ride a sand yacht along a 30-kilometre stretch of wide sandy beach between De Panne (B) and Dunkirk (F).
The sport was brought to the Belgian coast in 1898 by André Dumont and his seven brothers. André launched the idea by attaching a sail to a wooden go-kart. The sport caught on. In 1927, François Dumont established the Sand Yacht Club.
The sleek land yachts can reach speeds of over 125km/h on one of the best beaches in the world for the sport.

Second saturday of February 2022 with a lot of sunshine. It was soon clear that I wouldn't pass the occassion to make some train pictures, althought I didn't had more a bit more than an hour to spent.
So the high speed line to and from the French border was the goal, train traffic has increaded here a bit the last month, resulting in four trains in an hour time. Due to the delay of the TGV from Rennes to Brussels, it even became five trains.
This was the second one that I could photograph that day, a Thalys PBKA EMU heading to its destination in Germany.

A 20 anni mi piaceva moltissimo.

Took a taxi to St Peterburgs airport at 9 this morning, the drive took 40 minutes when I was told it would take an hour; the driver sped like a maniac. The flight to Helsinki took 50 minutes, they served fruit juice and water. I expected to pass through a transit lounge to my second flight, but instead transit passengers had to pass through Customs and Immigration; welcome to the EU.
I had a three hour layover for my flight to Reykjavik. Our flight took about four hours. On arrival there were no Immigration procedures, I collected my luggage, walked through the green customs exit and was in Iceland. The temperature was freezing; the first thing I did was unpack a warm sweatshirt before steping outside where it was a whole lot colder.
There were plenty of taxis and nobody waiting, so I was on my way into Reykjavik in no time. I hadn't expected a 50 Km (30 mile) drive to the capital. The taxi driver was happy to chat and we talked the whole way to the city where he dropped me at my hotel.
My hotel room is comfortably austere and much too hot. I opened the window the couple of centimetres permitted and hoped the room would cool down. Next I turned my watch back three hours. I had ramen noodles and dried potato left over from the Trans-Siberian for dinner and was in bed before 8 o'clock; I'm dead beat.

BTW. Whilst I've cropped it down top and bottom, there's no crop at the sides - I just got lucky and managed not to slice the nose or tail off as she sped by. However, I'd liked to have had a bit more space on her nose which makes it easier on the 'eye' as there is 'somewhere' for the subject to go to.

Pan AM SPED begins its journey north up the Connecticut River Line after working Packaging Corporation of America in Oxbow, MA.
It doesn't look like anything could live here, but the prairie is replete with wildlife of all kinds. Just down the road, hidden by the sign, is a small hill dropping down to the valley bottom and the Frenchman River. Buffaloberry thickets line the road on both sides, and this is where Loggerhead Shrikes love to build their nests.
In recent years, increased traffic through the park has resulted in many young birds dying in collisions with vehicles. People drive too fast. They bring their city speed to the prairie, where it isn't necessary. Last week I slowly crept past a car with Ontario plates; the lone, female driver was watching a bull bison just off the road. Moments later she went roaring past me in a cloud of dust. Racing from highlight to highlight is a common disease in our society. But the prairie doesn't work like that. It resists the quick fix, the instant reward. You have to slow down and give it time; only then will it reveal its secrets - its immeasurable beauty and bounty.
One of the park staff created this sign last year, and it has been installed in several locations. People generally obey. I don't think they come here to run down the wildlife; they just need clear guidelines. And, I suppose, to clear their heads. I haven't seen a dead shrike on the road since the signs went up. I don't always agree with decisions made by Parks Canada, but in this case... good work!

English at the bottom.

Over the coming period, you will see a number of photos on this Flickr stream that were taken during this year's summer holidays - interspersed with photos from Belgium, as railway-related events in our little country didn't stand still during the summer months either.
Just like my brother Steven, I headed to Langenargen on Lake Constance for this year's trip. Alongside relaxation, excursions, and hiking, time was naturally set aside for railway photography as well.
For the first time, instead of driving to Langenargen via Aachen, Koblenz, and Karlsruhe, we took the more direct route from our home in Belgium via Luxembourg, Saarbrücken, Strasbourg, Offenburg, and the Black Forest. And I have to say, that route was a pleasant surprise! Very quiet motorways, interspersed with pleasant smaller roads, brought us to Lake Constance in a good eight and a half hours of driving time.
The route might have been different from previous years, but one thing remained constant: the traditional, longer stop alongside a railway line. After weighing up the options and doing some searching via route apps, I ended up near Saverne after a drive of roughly four hours. And lo and behold, the LGV Est-Européenne runs just under 15 kilometers alongside the French A4 motorway there. What’s more, near Danne-et-Quatre-Vents, there are a few bridges crossing the high-speed line. Great - that part was sorted. Now I just had to hope that a TGV would actually pass by between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm, because in France, you never quite know...
But that worked out well too, as a OUIGO from Paris Est was scheduled to arrive in Strasbourg at 11:54 am that Sunday, followed just over forty minutes later by an ICE arriving at 12:38 pm. So, there was little chance of it going wrong.
And so, on Sunday, July 26, a car set off from Halle at 6:15 am heading for Lake Constance; after a brief stop along the way, we arrived at our chosen spot at 11:25 am. Before starting our picnic, however, I took up a position on the bridge in Eckartswiller. It was a sheer delight to watch the OUIGO TGV (OGV) approaching through the rolling landscape of the Vosges around 11:40 am.
After this first TGV, we had a picnic with the lady of the house and also caught the ICE to Stuttgart 40 minutes later, before driving to Germany—and eventually Langenargen—ourselves.

Another month has sped by - where does the time go?
The weather continues to veer between winter and Spring, from overnights of -6c to daytime highs of +15c. We had one real storm, Storm Otto, which luckily did minimal damage locally. We prepared for the worst though, as we still have clear memories of Storm Arwen and 6 freezing days and nights with no power.
As usual over the winter here, I have done more indoor shooting than outdoors, and that is reflected in my collage for the month. This time I used one of my shots as the background to the collage - the bare branches of the plum tree, with bokeh delights provided by sunshine, frozen rain droplets and my Helios lens. When the sun shines even the drab winter garden looks lovely! The Japanese miniature vases were brought out, along with the miniature furniture, and a couple of my bear collection. Everything is fair game when it comes to subjects to shoot 😄
Apart from Flickr my attention has been focussed on updating some of our (increasingly essential) 'tech' ... mainly my mobile smart-phone. An updated camera app to explore, and all my data to 'migrate'. Living quite remotely it has become as essential as the desktop computer to our lives, from shopping to finances. Luckily I do love playing with tech gadgets, so although it can take time away from other things, it is enjoyable learning how to best use it. A far cry from the tiny Nokia phone that still has a home in my drawer! I wonder at the technological revolution ... in cameras as well as phones. My old Canon Ixus 100 sits beside the Nokia! It still works remarkably well, which is more than can be said of the Nokia phone! 😄
And once again I say thanks to the Flickr organisers of their weekly challenges! More than half of my February uploads have been inspired by group challenges! I am still trying to use my vintage Helios lenses, and Lensbaby optics as much as I can ... but I still turn to the iPhone, the macro lenses and the Sony RX100.
Many thanks to everyone who has visited my photostream and for the comments and faves.

Hong Kong has sped up the discharge of Covid-19 patients from hospital and shortened the isolation period for infected residents, as health authorities reported more than 17,000 cases and over 65 deaths.
Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee called the scale of the escalating wave “unprecedented” and warned the number of infections was expected to increase exponentially within a few months.
“We must use the coming two to three months to curb the pandemic with several measures,” she said on Saturday.
Hikers in Hong Kong's country parks and those exercising outdoors will be required to keep their masks on at all times from Thursday, on the same day the vaccine pass that will exclude unvaccinated individuals from a number of venues will be launched, the Post has learned.
The current exemption for mask-wearing at
country parks and during outdoor physical
activities will be removed, according to
government sources. The number of diners per
table at all restaurants will also be capped at
two from Thursday. The tightened rules are
expected to be announced later today.

-----
It's almost done: the use of ICE3M trains on Belgian and Dutch railways.
In a couple of days, the new ICE 3 NEO train-sets will take over the services between Frankfurt am Main and respectively Amsterdam and Brussels. Together with the passengers we can only hope there are more reliable, although I still like the design of Alexander Neumeister on the beautiful ICE 3M EMU's.
Here you can see set 4682 in Kortenberg as ICE 18 in direction of Brussels South station.

My entry for round 1 of The Middle Earth LEGO Olympics over on MOCpages. The category was to create a build based on one of J.R.R Tolkien’s poems or songs. Here is the one I chose:
Farewell we call to hearth and hall!
Though wind may blow and rain may fall,
We must away ere break of day
Far over wood and mountain tall.
To Rivendell, where Elves yet dwell
In glades beneath the misty fell,
Through moor and waste we ride in haste,
And whither then we cannot tell.
With foes ahead, behind us dread,
Beneath the sky shall be our bed,
Until at last our toil be passed,
Our journey done, our errand sped.
We must away! We must away!
We ride before the break of day!
I tried to portray the 3 main themes of the song: hearth and home, travel through the wild, and Rivendell.
Although the weather was cloudy with intermittent sun and shadows, I decided to do some birdwatching from the sunroom window for a different vantage point.
It wasn't long before this Ruby-throated Hummingbird flew up, almost in front of me, and perched on this rosebush branch. He was intent on preening, so I grabbed a few shots before he sped off to chase an intruder who'd come too close to his territory.
When looking at my photos later, with all that preening there was this single shot, this one perfect angle, where that tiny patch of feathers on his throat flashed that distinctive ruby red for the camera.
Photo taken during practice for the 1982 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, Kent. Nigel was driving a Lotus at the time and this was 10 years before he won his first and only Formula 1 World Championship in 1992.
