I may never come down--galaxy collisions are rad!!!
View it LARGE.
Sorry I haven't been around much. I found the coolest web ever and decided to make my own Hubble Space Telescope following their instructions: The Hubble Site
I wanted to celebrate 18 years of the Hubble Space Telescope (April 24, 1990 - April 24, 2008) and go see all the galaxy collisions in person after they released 59 new photos for the Anniversary event.
I decided to bring along my peace sign in case I run into any unfriendly space creatures. I'm also using my spacecraft/telescope to further my politcal campaigning with George Clooney...I hope we can get the Alien Vote.
Do you see all the cool things I do like a sea turtle and a heart? Gotta go, my pal Gazoo wants to go chase after that cosmic jelly fish....
Music To Watch Space Boys By ~ Leonard Nimoy
p.s. My sleek spacesuit is the latest in technology and is made out of nylon and spandex and is called Biofit. It relies on mechanical counter-pressure instead of using gas pressurization. It'll be another 10 years until humans can wear them, but I can now, cuz Blythes are light years ahead of humans.

Hallo Spaceboy - David Bowie
This may be my definitive League you guys.
Speaking of which! My Extraordinary Gentlemen group is still very much active and very much accepting new submissions! So If you missed out on the initial challenge and wish to make some dusty old literary characters (these ones specifically) then never fear! Your opportunity to do so goes on!
Now let's talk what we have here.
Griffin is virtually unchanged saved for his coat.
Nemo is the same as my Movie! version, I just shifted him over here as the go-to fig because let's face it, he's perfect.
Mina I overhauled considerably, ditching the painted scarf in favor of a trimmed Ninjago mask and a custom-cut cloth piece. Her torso is now the CMF Shakespearean guy's with Lloyd's arms, and she's on the new dress piece so she's as tall as a normal minifig finally. Also new head/hair.
Quatermain is more or less the same, with his bag swapped out for a belt, and the left arm from the exclusive Bricktober Chris Pratt character's. (Also hey I finally got Ian Malcolm/)
Hyde is also a radical change from my previous, wildly over-sized brick-built fig. This one took a lot of inspiration from the Spaceboy in my *immensely* popular Umbrella Academy post, but with a lot of alterations due to parts availability. I'm quite thrilled with the way he turned out though. Albeit his little collar and cuffs makes him look like the world's most jacked Chippendale's dancer. Jekyll not pictured because he went through literally no changes. You can barely see him though behind Hyde.
Anyways, do let me know what you think!
Not a fan of the show, except for the character development, and some of the performances, but we're not here to talk about it. This is comics only and that's that. Heh.
Anyways I was suddenly graced with the random mental image of old-school style Umbrella Academy figs. At first I was just going to draw them, but I should have known that would never have been enough.
Seance: God this guy's face was a bitch to paint. Those smiley's are deceptively hard to imitate.
Rumor: Simple, painted hair, but it works.
Spaceboy: At first I tried my damnedest to use the Harry Potter Troll body, but that turned fruitless. Instead I took inspiration from this excellent little build on Brickshelf: www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4232742 I'm very proud of the result.
No. 5: Originally just had one of those old tuxedo torsos until I found this one. It was too perfect to pass up. His AK is honestly my favorite thing about these.
Kraken: Was gonna use a pirate head for him but then the mask would look weird. As it is I blacked out the wrong eye. It's since been fixed.
Anyways, these were a damn blast to make, and you can guarantee there'll be a part two to this. Until then, lemme know what you think!
So I've got a few sets of figs from really obscure comics that I haven't posted cause, well, they're real damn obscure. But I figured I might as well get em out there for education purposes.
The Umbrella Academy is an Image-published comic by Gerard Way (yep, the same, My Chemical Romance Gerard Way) about a family of seven children, all adopted by an eccentric billionaire who raises them to use their unique abilities for heroism. Their relationship with each other becomes fractured over time, and they only re-unite after their adoptive father dies, leaving them to reconcile with each other and face an all-new, devastating threat. It's a great, weird read that I highly recommend.
02, The Kraken: Gruff and no-nonsense, The Kraken has increased strength, speed, and durability, and can hold his breath for an indefinite amount of time.
03, The Rumor: A reality-warper, anything she says instantly becomes true, as long as she prefaces the saying with "I heard a rumor . . ."
01, Spaceboy: Increased strength and durability, Spaceboy's entire body was replaced with that of a Martian Gorilla after a near-fatal accident. With his new body he can survive the vacuum of space with ease.
05, The Boy: 05 disappeared for nearly twenty years at a young age, having flung himself far into a post-apocalyptic future where he soon grew bored, then worked for about fifty years to find a way back. In succeeding, he found himself trapped back in the body of his ten-year old self and can no longer age. Also he's an arrogant super-genius.
04, The Seance: Cold, pale, snarky, and a total stoner, the Seance can levitate, use telekinesis, and can talk to dead people, but only when he's not wearing shoes. Has been rejected from both Heaven and Hell.
Not pictured are 06, The Horror, who can summon tentacles from his stomach and died before the main story, or 07, Vanya, who has no special talents to speak of, but is a master violinist.
Anyways, it's a weird, dark, funny story with some touching moments (and a sequel!) that I highly recommend checking out.
More to come, and cheers!

The story:
Awaiting NuFace Counter Culture Awakening Annik I’ve thrown together my own Over-The-Counter Culture NuFace Collection!
I was heavily inspired by the Counter Culture Collection and by 90’s era David Bowie music that I played on repeat for far too long.
I'll be suprised if anyone else knows or remembers this guy, I don't know too much about him myself, I just really like his music I recently discovered. I don't know what he's doing now, or if he's still alive though. Making him was pretty easy, he looked strangely similar to Hugo Strange, so I modified his head slightly to match more, probably could have done better with the 3D goatee, still not a bad fig though.
Unused shot from LEGO Space: Building the Future. We ended up cutting the time travel storyline because it was a bit silly, but fans of Oblong Pictures should get the reference. Photo by Chris.

These are so fun to make. I want to make a robot army.
A robot I made while testing a pattern for Hillary Lang's put-together book no. 2: Spaceboy and Robot, available now at Wee Wonderfuls. Yes, that's my dryer. It looked a little "spacier" than my stand mixer or the heat register (which need dusting anyway).
I was sooo happpy to be one of the testers. I so admire Hillary and her soft toy creations. I made the body and head from wool felt, the legs from baby-wale corduroy, and the arms and antenna from heavy cotton. The pieces for the body were quite straight and geometric when cut out, but once I stuffed him, he got a rather beefy rounded look, which I love.
Snapped coming off the Sidlaw Hills just outside Dundee.
Played around with for ages in Lightroom in the end I went for a Silver Efex preset. I think it works well.
Heavy crop on this one didn't have the time to switch my lenses.
"...It happened at 9:38 p.m. ... Without warning and in an occurence of complete coincidence forty-three extraordinary children were born to mostly single women who had shown no signs of pregnancy..."
"...Using methods undisclosed, he (Sir Reginald Hargreeves) sought to track down and adopt as many of the children as he could. He found seven of them..."
