SPIN August 2011 iPad Soundcheck: SALEM
"I was nervous about shooting Salem-- they keep the stage pitch black and turn the smoke machines up to 11," explains photographer Charlotte Zoller about the witch house trio. "Every once in a while, I caught a strobe, which was how I snapped this photo." She wasn't the only one overcoming some obstacles that night. The show was marred by technical glitches, but, says Zoller, "[Vocalist] Jack [Donoghue] was dynamic, dominating the stage." That is, as far as anyone could tell.

An incongruous location, to be sure.
Jack is set up among the exhibits, including a TV screen he uses as part of his concerts. The lighting in here was crazy, and the scene complex. See what you think.
