Series of two. The sun was out and love was in the air! Lots of pairing up going on around the castle. Also nice to hear the Song Thrush in the bushes.

"Like many other songbirds, the male Song Sparrow uses its song to attract mates as well as defend its territory. Laboratory studies have shown that the female Song Sparrow is attracted not just to the song itself, but to how well it reflects the ability of the male to learn. Males that used more learned components in their songs and that better matched their song tutors (the adult bird they learned their songs from) were preferred."

This song sparrow was settled in one of the trees by the river. I normally find them by their calls, but this one had stopped calling by the time I arrived.

Those birds sang a lot (but it was about two weeks ago)...it was so nice and spring like.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
They are quite melodious when they sing, hence their Latin name, but this on was quiet during the sequence I shot.
The sweet song of the Female Red-winged Blackbird is one of many heard during the summer months to be enjoyed. Here, she is balancing on one leg while still being able to sing her song. I heard so many birds singing that day it was like a choir.
