A female spirit from heaven has landed on Earth
She has come decked with precious ornaments
She has come
She has a flower garland decorated in her hair
Everyone’s gaze is stuck on her
She has come
She is the beloved one of all
She is gorgeous like a deer
She is a beauty queen
She has come
Since my gaze has gotten struck with yours, I’ve become crazy
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
The tale of my love has become famous
The world didn’t believe in me, so I took this resolve
I was someplace earlier, now look where I’ve reached
Everyone says that Mastani has become crazy
The tale of my love has become famous
The world didn’t believe in me, so I took this resolve
I was someplace earlier, now look where I’ve reached
They say that this crazy one has become intoxicated
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
You’ve wounded me in such a way
That I’ve become crazy
You’ve applied ointment on that wound in such a way
That I’ve become spiritual
The identity of my love
Has kept me in a constant movement
The tale of my love has become famous
Everyone says that Mastani has become crazy
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
The tale of my love has become famous
The world didn’t believe in me, so I took this resolve
I was someplace earlier, now look where I’ve reached
Everyone says that Mastani has become crazy
I’ve become crazy, I’ve become crazy
Light is spread everywhere
Only You’re there in my thoughts
My heart is dancing ceaselessly
You’re intoxicated, you’re crazy
Your image is that of purity, You are a glowing beauty
Light is spread everywhere
Only You’re there in my thoughts
Like me, this Northern Cardinal may be wondering why there were no migrating birds at Magee Marsh for the "Biggest Week in American Birding". I think tens of thousands of birders from all 50 states and 38 countries may have wondered too.
Two solid days of rain, followed by three days of frigid temperatures and a north wind stalled the migrating birds someplace in the South. Warmer temperatures will probably bring the birds enmasse for the final days of the birding festival, but unfortunately this was my last day at the event
This is an out-of-the-camera-shot taken at Magee Marsh in northwest Ohio.

Stepping out of the shade
Wanna bathe in the light
They're giving us a bad name
Being good never felt quite right
I know there's someplace better
Far away from here, we're gold
As long as we're together
Hey, yeah-yeah
We were born to run away (whoa-oh, whoa-oh)
Top down, no doubt
We were born to run away (whoa-oh, whoa-oh)

My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away
But every now and then you come to mind
Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game
But when your name was called, you found a place to hide
When you knew that I was always on your side
Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent
My demons and my angels reappear
Leavin' only traces of the man you thought I'd be
Too afraid to hear the words I always feared
Leavin' you with only questions all these years
But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally
This isn't how it's really meant to be
No it isn't how it's really meant to be
Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear,
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away
And I'm left to carry on and wonder why
Even through it all, I'm always on your side
But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally
This isn't how it's really meant to be
No it isn't how it's really meant to be
Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why
Was it you that kept me wondering through this life
When you know that I was always on your side
This summer is a disaster for most insects . No rain in months and high temperatures makes it very dry . In someplaces it looks like autumn , trees dropping their leaves !!!
I remember once in a dining car, the steward had all the shades pulled down, and we were going across Kansas or Oklahoma, someplace along there. And I pulled up the shade - I was almost the only person in the car - and the fellow came by again and pulled the shade down. He said, "There's nothing to see out there, son." I was outraged. But I think so many people feel that way about this part of the country - that it isn't worth looking at.
Oh, I love this evening light :-)

Winter is breaking up with me again. She says she needs a rest from our relationship. She does this every year and breaks my heart. I should just move far away to someplace where she never shows up.....but I can't because I'm crazy about her. She'll be back...... I'll just wait. Sighhhhh
I know we've got to get away
Someplace where no one knows our name
We'll find the start to something new ♫♪

This arch is located in the City of Rocks in Idaho. We were very excited to visit this location at this time of day. I knew I wanted the sunburst to top the arch, and I knew that I wanted the warm glow inside the arch to draw the viewer in. I wanted the viewer to know that we were not in Joshua Tree or someplace like that, so I carefully included the local trees because I find they are very specific to this park. So the tree is gracing the middle of the arch to frame the location.
This is a three image blend. Let me know what you think.

Just about every photo of La Sagrada Familia has been taken and put up all over the internet-and it's a beautiful place with very distinctive artistic flourishes. But, whenever I go someplace where this is the case, I try to create something different and I look for the people- the constantly changing flux of people visiting because that to me is far more interesting. La Sagrada Familia took 144 years to build and is constantly under reconstruction but that seems like nothing compared with human evolution. We definitely still have some changes we can make. though.
I imagine taking a specific religion out of this scenario and just enjoying the architecture with cats wandering around me while eating ramen and stopping to read Yoko Tawada's book, Scattered All Over the Earth, now and then. That sounds quite pleasant. Each word and noodle is like a type of prayer we say: Thanks for still being alive!

I think I am like most photographers, at least like most who came into photography through the digital era. When I am planning to go someplace where I plan to do some real shooting, I do research. What time of year is best? What are the icons of the location? What is unique about the location? And, yes, what have others shot at that location?
A lot of this research is to see what worked for others, but its also to be sure you shoot it differently. Well, the family was planning a trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. So I hit the web. The park is a tough one because its awe inspiring to be there, amazing to experience, but very hard to shoot. The rocks all tend to blend together, and depth and scale are very hard to convey. The Stature of Liberty can fit in the Canyon after all, but you can't see that scale in the images.
However, while I was looking I stumbled across one image that took my breath away. A local of the area shot an image of the sun hitting a crack in a canyon wall (a reflection of the light actually) that made the rock look just like Fire Falls at Yosemite- but without the water. The photographer was Vince Farnsworth and I give him full credit on this one. I am just ridding his coat tails.
We planned the whole trip around being there when the sun would work for this image. We planned to stay overnight very close to the site. The time of year was perfect. Everything was perfect. Then the weather.
We got there and the Canyon seemed to fight back. I would say it was raining but that would be an understatement. It was more like a monsoon. Not odd for this part of the State, but I had hoped to avoid it. First, the rain gets all over your gear. Second, you have to perch yourself on a cliff edge to get this image. Not a place you want to be in high winds. In fact I got another great image in a different section of the park of a full rainbow, but it was very hard, shoot, wipe, shoot, wipe, I felt like I was back home in Oregon shooting waterfalls in the spring. I will probably post that image later.
I got to the parking area in the pitch dark and the rain was crazy. I waited it out for a while, after all, the window to get the light right was not too small, so I had some wiggle room. In the end, fortune did smile on me, because the rain stopped when the sun rose and I made it to cliff edge ok. I was greeted a short time later with the Dragon's Tongue (Vince's name).
I don't want to give too many more details about where and how to find this magical location. I had to do some serious sleuthing to find it myself. I don't want it to get trashed. If you really want the details you have to buy me a soda here in Keizer and I will tell you more.
Let me know what you think.

Well, we busted out of class had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three-minute record, baby, than we ever learned in school
Tonight I hear the neighborhood drummer sound
I can feel my heart begin to pound
You say you're tired and you just want to close your eyes and follow your dreams down
Well, we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Like soldiers in the winter's night with a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
And now young faces grow sad and old
And hearts of fire grow cold
We swore blood brothers against the wind
Now I'm ready to grow young again
And hear your sister's voice calling us home
Across the open yards
Well maybe we could cut someplace of our own
With these drums and these guitars
'Cause we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Blood brothers in the stormy night with a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There's a war outside still raging
You say it ain't ours anymore to win
I wanna sleep beneath peaceful skies in my lover's bed
With a wide-open country in my eyes
And these romantic dreams in my head
'Cause we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Blood brothers in the stormy night with a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender
No retreat, baby, no surrender
This was taken outside of Hobart on our way to Port Arthur in Tasmania. The banding of coloured sand alternating with the water made a striking scene. At first I was annoyed when this couple walked into my photo but then I released they were a bonus and added to the composition.
I don't know whether it is lockdown, being away from photography for a few months but I just seem to be having so much trouble picking something to post. I second guess everything. Hopefully it will pass!
When you're someplace beautiful and peaceful, a place that calms you and rejuvenates you at the same time, you tend to want to stay there, as long as possible.
That must have been how this lone boater on Diamond Lake was feeling at the time I took this photo.

It amazes me how the colors on Mt. Thielsen change depending on the lighting. Of course, that's Thielson on the left
Having seen a few Flickr friends recently post photos from someplace called The Boneyard, I also wanted to visit.
It goes on for quite a way. I walked about taking pictures for about an hour and a half and didn't cover all of it.
I wanted to make sure that I found and photographed a few trucks for HTT. This was the first and maybe the most interesting that I found.
I have been informed that it is not a Model T, but I haven't had it identified yet. Probably, someone here will know.
There were very often other vehicles in the frame no matter how I pointed my camera, but I tried to make it not too much of a distraction.
Expect more cars and trucks in the days and weeks to come.

Manhattan's skyline is so long that even with 4 or 5 photos stitched it was coming out very curved so I provide you with just one shot here taken from across the Hudson at one of the worlds busiest cities.
I should mention that I was very fortunate to have a great sky this day. Never ever when I intend to go shoot someplace do I get lucky enough to have good skies. Usually super overcast or all white and blown out.

You know, you've heard of Care Bears, right? Well, this guy's covered in stickers, and he don't care.
Actually, I can't really say that for sure. Who knows, maybe all those stickers drive him crazy, but it's doubtful. His fur is probably way too thick for them to be an issue.
Now my two doxies, that's another story. These particular stickers seemed to grow like crazy this last spring, probably due to all the rain we had but there is a bumper crop of them. Tank and Sugar get just covered in them and it's no fun brushing them out. Tank is really good about it, he will just lay there and let me brush and pick all the stickers out of his fur.
Sugar is another story. She screams and acts like she's being murdered or something so I just use scissors and cut them all off of her. She's a little Diva.
This little bear was down towards my creek beyond my fenced area. I think he has been hanging around quite a bit lately or so I've been told. This was the first time I actually got to see him.
I hope people put their garbage someplace where he can't get to it because people out here will shoot first and ask questions later. It's obviously a young bear and this is probably its first year on its own. So I hope people will just scare him off and keep their garbage in an enclosed area so he doesn't suffer the death penalty.
Live in peace. Learn to co-exist. That's my mantra and I'm sticking to it.

Today's Caturday theme is looking on the bright side. I anticipated taking photos outside in the bright sunshine with Mack and maybe even Ella. And then last Sunday, our two grand dogs came to stay for the week - a breakdown in communication someplace. They are lots of fun but they cramp Mack and Ella's style. So, no outdoor photos and there is nothing bright about the inside of our townhouse.
Here is Mitzi instead. She is only 6.5 years old but she has already had cancer and has been in remission for 15 months. Pets with cancer are referred to a specialty vet so I don't have a lot of experience with it but for most of the cats we've referred, it's simply a pill or an injection administered once or twice a week. There doesn't seem to be any nausea, hair loss or any of the other awful side effects that people experience. So Mitzi is here today as a success story for a trooper of a little cat.
Happy Caturday: Looking on the bright side
BTW, I'm going into work today and when I come home, there will be extra dog-walking duty so I may not get to commenting until later today.

"There's gotta be a record of you someplace
You gotta be on somebody's books
The lowdown, a picture of your face
Your injured looks
The sacred and profane
The pleasure and the pain
Somewhere your fingerprints remain concrete
And it's your face I'm looking for on every street"

Exactly a week from now I head out and up the coast for my Birthdaycation 2021 trip to Carmel, Pacific Grove, Monterey, and San Francisco. 2 nights in Carmel so I can leisurely photograph the Monterey Peninsula, and then 3 nights in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.
Lots of opportunity. Lots of SD cards will be filled with images.
I shot this on my last trip, in 2018, off the coast of the Monterey Peninsula near Point Pinos.
My birthday is May 1st, and excepting last year, I've taken a vacation during that time since 2012, traveling someplace special to take lots of photographs!
Sitting in your car, surrounded by the unpleasant reality of your current life. Wouldn’t you dream of a beautiful but distant setting? Maybe it’s a memory of where you’ve been before and left behind, or someplace you’ve only read about or seen in photos....We all have dreams.
A few months ago:
I was thinking of the movie "The Beach" when I was standing on this beach in Oregon.
Mostly the ending scene:
(Leonardo DiCaprio) aka Richard (voice-over):
"I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not someplace you can look for, 'cause it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever..."
Time flies by when the night is young
Daylight shines on an undisclosed location, location
Bloodshot eyes looking for the sun
Paradise delivered and we call it a vacation, vacation
You're painting me a dream that I
Wanna belong in, wanna belong in
Over the hills and far away
A million miles from L.A.
Just anywhere away with you
I know we've got to get away
Someplace where no one knows our name
We'll find the start to something new
Just take me anywhere, take me anywhere
Anywhere away with you
Just take me anywhere, take me anywhere
Anywhere away with you
Fun, little less fun
Little less, over, over, over, over, me
Oh, fun, little less fun
Little less, over, over, over, over, me
Truth comes out when we're blacking out
Looking for connection in a crowd of empty faces, empty faces
Your secrets are the only thing I'm craving now
The good, and the bad, let me in
'Cause I can take it, I can take it
You're painting me a dream that I
Wanna belong in, wanna belong in
Over the hills and far away
A million miles from L.A.
Just anywhere away with you
I know we've got to get away
Someplace where no one knows our name
We'll find the start to something new
Just take me anywhere, take me anywhere
Anywhere away with you
Just take me anywhere, take me anywhere
Anywhere away with you
Fun, little less fun
Little less, over, over, over, over, me
Oh, fun, little less fun
Little less, over, over, over, over, me
Take me anywhere
Oh, anywhere
Anywhere away with you
Take me anywhere
Over the hills and far away
A million miles from L.A.
Just anywhere away with you
I know we've got to get away
Someplace where no one knows our name
We'll find the start to something new

And if this bird said to me 'Thou Shalt Not Pass' I'd probably agree and slink off to go someplace else
This image shows part of the Iron Mountain Road in Custer State Park. Designed by Peter Norbeck this 17 mile road goes form Custer State Park to Mount Rushmore. This whole road was designed to enjoy the ride, it took twists and turns and included unnecessary tunnels and turns. The road was designed for enjoyment, not efficiency. There are three tunnels, one shown here.
I love the idea of someone designing a road for the enjoyment of the road. It forces you to slow down and enjoy the Black Hills. When in the Black Hills I enjoy this stretch of road probably more than Mount Rushmore. So on this trip I wanted to pay homage to this by doing some cool night photography.
We drove the road specifically looking for someplace we could capture the essence of the road. The trouble is, there is hardly anyplace to pull over and stop. I really wanted an image that would show the wood supports of the bridges, but settled on this curve and tunnel, because they show the sheer unnecessary elements of the road that I love! Even here we had to park on the other side of the tunnel and walk to this spot. We then had to climb up on some rocks to shoot down as much as possible. There were no cars on the road at this hour, so we uses two way radios to take turns driving the truck through this part. we then walked the street with lights to fill in the trees. This is a composite, though my buddy Tom wanted to do it in one frame, and his looks great too! We tried this several different ways, driving in the middle of the road, drive both ways on each side of the street. In the end, I liked this simple one-pass, two color approach. It just looked so clean.
Let me know what you think, and when in the Black Hills, you MUST visit this sensational, inefficient road. Its more American than the guys on the hill for sure.
Jogs Falls, Karnataka, India. 2nd largest fall in India in terms of plunge height.
This is an attempt, shot at low shutter speed in early morning hours right before sunrise. I doubt any photograph can do justice to the beauty of this magnificent breathtaking piece of nature.
Everybody Loves Somebody - Dean Martin
Everybody loves somebody sometime
Everybody falls in love somehow
Something in your kiss just told me
My sometime is now
Everybody finds somebody someplace
There's no telling where love may appear
Something in my heart keeps saying
My someplace is here
If I had it in my power
I'd arrange for every girl to have your charms
Then every minute, every hour
Every boy would find what I found in your arms
Everybody loves somebody sometime
And although my dream was overdue
Your love made it well worth waiting
For someone like you
If I had it in my power
I'd arrange for every girl to have your charms
Then every minute, every hour
Every boy would find what I found in your arms
Everybody loves somebody sometime
And although my dream was overdue
Your love made it well worth waiting
For someone like you
Vacation fumes...

Figuratively and literally. I have three months of mediocrity in my folders, poor planning and bad luck mostly so nothin' new. I'm leaving for AZ and Texas on Friday and my work is trying to pack two weeks work into one so I'm sleeping in, getting home late which means no Flickr. Probably will be backed up when I return too so I'll be back asap.
One more from Sun Lakes. It's nice when you are already someplace beautiful when you get a great sunset. :-)
