Well that was incredibly cool to experience. This one is just a hair past totality.

Another "Artic Blast" racing across north central Iowa with -12 degree temperatures and 25 to 35 mph winds create an amazing solar circle....again this morning! It takes a lot of blowing snow and very cold conditions to create this anomaly.

Solar Exclipse Composite - Two years ago today!

Today’s (25th October) partial solar eclipse captured at 09.34 UT in Ha light from Kent, UK, with my Lunt LS152THa, and Altair Hypercam 174M cooled camera. This was imaged between rain showers and thick clouds. Notice the moon occulting the large prominence. As a point of information, I've orientated this to match the Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG) images. It is therefore different to the visual orientation of the sun in the sky at the time.

Here you see a series of the phases during the total lunar eclipse an June 15th. Regrettably the moon rose very late, when most of the eclips was already over. After the clouds to were gone, I had the chance to shoot this series.

Realizing that the world is inundated with eclipse images, I will only post 1 more. This has a little more interest.

Almost as amazing as the spectacle itself is the related scientific data. A few facts:

The earth has a circumference of 40,075 kilometers. The circumference of the moon is about the quarter size of earth, coming in at 10,921 kilometers, while the circumference of the sun is a staggering 4.37 MILLION kilometers!!!

In the above image, solar flares can be seen. Amazingly, these flares can reach out into space 15 billion kilometers!

As I was finishing up some older imagery from last year's solar eclipse I stumbled upon the Baily Bead sequence that I made just before and after totality. A few months after the first processing I had made quite some progress in the details I got out and decided to redo some of the work. This resulted in this image of the Earthshine on the moon taken during totality together with the corona and the sequence of the Baily beads. I personally really like this image

Nikon D810a - Nikkor 300mm f/4

This is a composite image of all the seperate images I took during the recent solar eclipse on March 20th 2015. These were taken from The Lough in Cork. I opened all the images in photoshop and aligned them in a sequence so you could see how it progressed. Originally I did this with more "under-exposed" images that just showed the eclipse, but when I imported these shots that were a little "over-exposed" I thought the detail in the clouds that came with them looked really cool so I left it in. This was not faked in any way.The only use of photoshop was to align the exposures in the sequence you see.

Porsche 917K #917-022

This car was bought new in 1970 by Solar Productions (Steve McQueen's production company) in order to be driven by McQueen in some scenes of the movie "Le Mans" in the iconic Gulf colors and #20 number, just as the Jo Siffert / Brian Redman car.

After the film it was raced for a short period of time before being owned by Brian Redman, Richard Attwood. It is now part of the Jerry Seinfeld collection.

Solar Powered Eagle For The Garden Maybe

Extreme overexposure on FP4. This was shot at f/16 for either two or four seconds. I've done this with a pinhole camera, but never with a real lens.

I used photoshop to bring out contrasts and get rid of a couple of dust specks, but the solarization effect is real.

Next time, I'm going to try cutting the normal development time in half.

Well yes there is a Solar Eclipse happening. No, not just the Rock hiding the sun, but the moon hiding the sun too which cant be seen in this length/exposure. This is how the Fossil Dunes look compared to the silhouette in previous photos.

A lot of inspiration went into this design. The accessories are the result of a blend of the art style from 'The Emperor's New Groove' (of all things) and the unique sculptures of Arnaldo Pomodoro. Also very inspired by Tino Poutiainen's moc - Mictlantecuhtli.

If you're wondering about the snake piece's connection to the leg, it's secured by wrapping the chain tightly around the leg, forcing the snake's tongue towards the kneecap and locking it in place.

The cameleon pieces are attached to the neck accessory by slotting a microfig inbetween the gap of their legs and the hose pieces rest with the bar handles holding them in place.

Hope you like it!

A sunset panorama of the Solar Farm in Ivanpah California. It's a series of long exposures. The Creosote bush AKA Larrea Tridentada serves as the foreground with the Solar Farm & Mountain as the middle ground. And the sky is the background.

In May 2014 the news media claims it's the largest in the world. Nevertheless, it consists of 3 huge solar towers that collect sun rays from the several hundred thousand mirrors on the ground. The intense gamma rays vaporize any foul that come between the mirrors and the solar collector towers. Ironically it's built on the California Nevada boarder. And it sends generated electricity over a hundred miles into California. Nevada has yet to incorporate solar or wind factories even though it has more sunny days than most of the states in the South West US.

Thanks for viewing.

The total Solar eclipse was imaged on Ah Chong Island in the Montebello group in West Australia. This image is an exposure fusion of 7 one-stop images captured with a Nikon Z7II camera, Nikon 16-35 mm F lens @ 16 mm. The colors and darkness are close to my perception of the event. Jupiter is above the eclipsed Sun and Venus below just above the landscape. It was a bright eclipse and I only saw those two planets with my eye.

The October 14, 2023 solar eclipse at its peak (about 68%) here in southwestern California, USA.

When I first learned about the pending eclipse, my mind began to cue up a classic Johnny Cash song (covered by Wall of Voodoo and Social Distortion, among others) and perhaps crack a pun off it, but, alas, this was not the case. (Well, at least I got to link to the songs for the benefit of those in the path of the eclipse's totality.)

I used the same sheet of solar filter material attached to a plastic drain pipe fitting also used some six years earlier.
