This is the setup I currently use for most of my panorama shots. It includes the following:
+ Canon EOS 6D. An affordable (and my first) digital full-frame body. Here shown without the battery grip, as it the Manfrotto 303SPH does not extend far enough for me to use the grip in order to setup the nodal center point correctly.
+ Canon EF 17-40 f/4L. The widest lens I own. This allows me to capture for as far as I can.
+ Manfrotto 303SPH pano head. For a cool 670 USD, this baby certainly does not come cheap for a slab of metals, but after wrangling with parallax I made the plunge to buy it. I have now shot several scenes both with and without the panoramic head and you can see that it does make a huge difference. It is quite heavy though.
+ Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod. This is a versatile tripod with an easily rotatable center-column which is nothing short of genius. It replaces the 3021BPro tripod which I previously own.
+ Canon TC-80N3. My remote release. You do need this to minimize vibration. A lot of my photos shot in crowdy areas are somewhat long-exposures. Longer exposure renders moving objects as a blur, and thus hides the identity of people, so if I choose to publish it I will not need to get model release from every single one.
This setup was used to photograph www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/9404825673/ — some of my followers have expressed that the tutorials are helpful so I will try to do some more tutorials presentations in the future.

Combo today: Canon EOS M + Canon EF 50mm f/1.4.
The 50 f/1.8 is pretty crappy but the 50 f/1.4 is pretty sweet. Yes there is also the 50 f/1.2L from Canon but I do not shoot enough 50mm to justify that purchase.

One of the Little Green Men (LGM) from Toy Story was also at the photoshoot with Rainbow Teddy (RT) and Daddy Smurf that night [1] but he has a different opinion regarding how to use the strobe.
LGM: I think that a bare bulb is better than SML’s ceiling bounce.
SML: Why?
LGM: If I hold the flash this way, it highlights how private your date is.
RT: But we are just hanging out—SML was lying. We are definitely not on a date. My love is for Tigger.
SML: Really? So where is Tigger?
RT: Well you did say that he was too big to tag along…
LGM: I heard that also!
SML: …
So basically depending on your needs, different lighting setup gives you a different effect, and this capture illustrates a few things:
1. The stadium is very dark.
2. The flash by itself covers a very small area.
3. If you bounce from the ceiling it creates a much larger area.
4. Bounced flash is able to create a big soft light.
5. Unbounced bare bulb flash is able to create a small but harsh light.
So which do you use? It depends on the look you are going for.

This is the setup for a panorama of the Ma On Shan Sports Ground to be posted later. While the panoramas done handheld in the past have yielded decent results, the near planes have not been perfect. To get perfect seams you really need to do things right—with a tripod and cable release. Ideally you would also use a pano head, which I do not own. But really you need a pano in the old days when you have to do it by hand. These days any pano stitching software, including both the excellent and free Hugin as well as Photoshop, can correct geometric distortions so even if your image sensor is not located at the perfect spot (which is basically what a pano head allows you to do), the results can be excellent. As you can see many of the handheld panoramas I have posted earlier on the stream, in the digital age, that bit is mostly a luxury.
When doing panoramas, having a leveled camera would save pixels, so the built-in electronic leveling on the 7D (pictured) is super useful.

The sand is a super sturdy tripod for the Canon EOS M, apparently.
I discovered today that there is a beach near me in walking distance. So I took my EOS M to see if it is too far to lug my SLR with me. 15 minutes. Not too bad at all. Expect to see some long exposure photography with water soon.
