Sr2 3228 with IC 47 from Helsinki to Rovaniemi arriving in Ylivieska to meet S 56 from Oulu to Helsinki. On a freezing afternoon in Ylivieska.
I recently visited Estonia, Finland and Latvia.
On the 18th of February we decided to take the boat to Helsinki from Tallinn.
As we woke up late in our apartment in Tallinn we rushed to the terminal where our boat to Helsinki would depart. After a 150 minute journey arrived in Helsinki. Throughout a week of full cloud cover we somehow picked the only day without a single cloud. This meant that we didn’t know where to go, because we hadn’t planned on getting any sun. After looking for about 20 minutes we finally found a spot where we’d be able to take some photos. We didn’t think we’d see a “Pendolino” but after about 50 minutes it came around the corner.
It is 11:14 AM when Pendolino/Sm3 7112 operated by the national railways (VR) passed us heading towards it's final destination: Helsinki.
In a typical Finnish manner, It started to snow in the midle of the spring. During last nigth it rained snow and the ground received a small layer of snow. Fortunately the rain wasn't bad and Pendolino train number 64 from Kajaani to Helsinki was able to continue it's journey.
A Pendolino train to Pieksämäki crosses a small river that has been untouched by the winter for so long. The golden scheme of the sky is clearly reflected by the water. However, the fast pendolino will have only small climbs of it.
Pendolino service S72 from Kuopio to Helsinki has started its long journey across the Finnish wilderness. As approaching Salminen station, the fast Sm3 makes a rapid passing when it speeds towards its next destination.

A nice and clear day to spot some passenger traffic near Mäntyharju. A typical Pendolino train is travelling from Kajaani to Helsinki while being surrounded by the typical scenes of the windy Mustajärvi.
Shoreham based Trawler SM3 heads in to calmer waters inside the Harbour
On the horizon, 6 miles out behind her is the £1Bn Rampion Wind Farm - but note that the visible Turbines and the rest of them - are 'parked' in the stop position with their blades all feathered..........Why?
Apparently, there's a major electrical fault and the Complex has been out of action now for several days and word is it could be much, much longer!
So much for renewable energy!

Still, the flow of passenger traffic from the South continues through the evening. The scheduled Pendolino train number 69 is nearing its next destination of Kuopio where rush to the next destination is evident in the eyes of those who are able to witness it.
