If you look closely, the last bit of sun is peeking above the horizon, through the marine layer in the distance.
The shallow waters over the rocky shoals create interesting wave patterns and textures here. The last stragglers of surfers are hanging on until last light, though one can be seen on the far left, paddling off from the crowd.
The ocean's waves, not exactly pounding, drown out (unintended pun) all other sounds here, and the breezes pick up as the cooler air, no longer heated by direct sunlight begins to move in. There is a certain balance in a Pacific sunset that can only be shown visually or experienced firsthand, words are inadequate.
The last sliver of light at Vestrahorn. We almost didn't go as the sky was sooo bland, but it turned out much better than we had thought (or hoped for). If you've not been, it is a magical place and well worth the trip! 20221008 Vestrahorn 1v1

The moon was setting when I captured this image. There's something fascinating about seeing just a sliver of light on the moon while the rest is dark and reflecting very little light. I pretty much turned this into a graphic in my post-processing.
Though captured on November 25th, 2022, the information below the image says it was taken today, the 13th of December. But that is the upload date. I have tried to change it but there is a glitch and it won't let me correct it to the right date :( Oh well.

Just a sliver of light on the horizon was enough to produce some nice colour at Old Hartley and St Mary's
Meier's waves at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. I got off work at 8 p.m. and took this on my way to the car....
The last of a pleasant evening's light streams between distant hills to illuminate train 925 climbing up above Karitane. This shot was a real rush and what wouldn't I have given for another 30 seconds on the train here, to fly a bit further left...
A successful chase with Captain Wallace at the controls yielded a nice bag of pictures this evening. With the train now running a little earlier (and not stopping in Oamaru this day), who would have thought you could get a sunny picture of 925 at Merton in mid-October?

The great thing (and most frustrating) about photography is you never know what the conditions are going to be when you get to your shooting destination. All the apps, planning, weather predictions in the world are great, but those tiny variables can completely change everything! This particular sunrise had the potential for a good one, but between the time I went to bed and woke up, the clouds showed up and changed everything. I was up anyways, why not freeze my butt off. In the end it actually turned out to be a really cool morning. The sky turned pink for a good 5 mins, before the thick clouds snuffed out the colour. All that was left was this tiny sliver of light on the horizon (which I thought looked really cool).
Pullers of the blue variety lead a loaded grain train south capturing the last glimmers and slivers of golden sunlight on a oddly warm and clear December day.
A sliver of light catches a BNSF detour reroute on CN's Superior Sub near Proctor Junction. These are running due to Grassy Point swing bridge being out-of-service.
It was a full day today with not much time to think of photography. My daughter and I planted flowers, herbs, and strawberries in pots this afternoon. I decided to shoot a quick image of the light streaming through the fence kissing this flower. The color was too intense so I converted it to black and white. I wanted something to honor my day and feel that the sliver of light represents the hope I have as my world keeps opening up.
The humidity has been unusually high for the desert southwest. The heat index was 120F last week! But the haze enhances the atmospheric perspective of the receding hills.
Here a sliver of light breifly illuminates the roadside flowers, mostly Indian Blankets and Engelmann's Daisies. Another image shot out the window of my vehicle.
