Authentic HBCU majorette J-Setting dance by former J-Sette Dance Captain Kionna Taylor.

J-Setting is a style of dance popularized by the Prancing J-Settes, the popular collegiate women's danceline of Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South marching band. It originated in the late 1970s from African-Americans in the Jackson, Mississippi, area of the United States.

J-Setting gained mainstream media attention when the style was used in Beyonce's choreography. "Single Ladies" and "Diva" and a commercial with Ciara.

Originally dance performance captured to "Dose" by Ciara. Tempo = 114.0 BPM

Sam Allen, a graduate of LaGuardia High School (the “Fame” school in NYC), attended the University of Southern California and trained with the American Ballroom Theatre. Awarded “Best Choreography” by the United States Tournament of Dance. He teaches dance in Los Angeles, and conducts dance workshops internationally and across the US. Sam Allen’s choreography credits include the musical production of “In The Heights”, tv commercials for Nike, Canon, Doritos, and Almond Breeze, as well as music videos and live tours for artists such as Keith Urban, Todrick Hall, Sofia Carson, Mýa, and Kloë Shinn.

About Gisella Ferreira

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Gisella Ferreira, a renowned Brazilian American performance artist and Master Teacher

specializing in: Brazilian Samba and Baile Funk, Hip-Hop and Street Jazz.

Her titles include: The 1st Samba Queen USA/ Rainha do Samba, Hollywood Carnival

Queen, a member of Brasil Samba Congress and most recently Passista do Salgueiro,

a Principal Dancer and member of a prestigious Samba School in Rio.

Gisella has performed and competed internationally in Rio’s Brasil Samba Congress

and Carnaval Parade, Hong Kong’s Lunar New Year Parade and shows such as

American Idol and The PlayBoy Jazz Festival. She studied at UCLA's Dept. of World

Arts and Cultures, focusing on dance choreography and performance, as well as on art

activism. She began teaching dance at age 12 in Santa Cruz, CA and has taught in Rio

de Janeiro (Brasil), Salvador (Brasil) and Los Angeles CA. She brings over 20 years of

teaching dance experience and over 17 years of professional commercial dance

experience. Gisella also choreographs, teaches dance, and performs with her own

company, Samba Soul in Los Angeles as well as Santa Cruz.

Vol 2 Authentic HBCU majorette J-Setting dance by former J-Sette Dance Captain Kionna Taylor. This is a stand dance used in the bleachers and off-field, usually to a slow or moderately tempo song.

J-Setting is a style of dance popularized by the Prancing J-Settes, the popular collegiate women's danceline of Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South marching band. It originated in the late 1970s from African-Americans in the Jackson, Mississippi, area of the United States.

J-Setting gained mainstream media attention when the style was used in Beyonce's choreography. "Single Ladies" and "Diva" and a commercial with Ciara.
