for a bit it escaped.

I love to sit on a meadow and look around to find out who is nearby and possibly watching me. In this case it was a four-spotted chaser, the second one I have seen this year. This one was a female but that is something you can only tell if you look at the colour of the body.
It's over a year now since I'v head a visitor to the house, and well over a year since I've seen my granddaughters. what a crazy life we're living. Luckily I can still manage to cycle down to the coast , and I usually see someone I know, to have a social distance chat to. Sit down by the fire, by the Pogues would be a lovely invitation, perhaps at a cosy pub after a long sunset walk.
This vintage Catapiller sits on display at the Guy Goodwin Education Center in Carrizo Plain national Monument, San Luis Obispo County, California. Cattle were brought to the grasslands of the Carrizo Plain by the early 1850s. The next big change came when dryland grain farmers started homesteading in the valley. Eventually vast amounts of the grassland was put to the plow. The farm work was orignally all done with horse drawn euipment but eventually tractors like this one did the heavy work. The Carrizo Plain gets only 8 to 10 inches of rainfall a year on average but the amount during any given year can be highly unpredictable. The risk of crop failure due to insufficient moisture became to great and most of the farming efforts were abandoned. In the last few decades many of the homesteads were bought and became part of the National Monument which is administered by the BLM.

I had to laugh as it looks like this bumble bee is sitting down on the job, but it's a matter of perspective. I believe it's at the edge of this flower but looks like it's sitting on the next one over.

Le lac de Gaube 1725 m et 18.4 ha, au pied du Vignemale (3298 m) est célèbre pour son site et sa facilité d'accès, la rive gauche est bordée par le GR10 en direction du refuge des Oulettes de Gaube, sur la rive droite se trouve l'hôtellerie du lac de Gaube et vous pourrez y admirer le lac et la face nord du Vignemale. Accessible en 1 h de marche à travers pins ou par télésiège (montée 270 m) à partir du parking (payant) du Pont d'Espagne.
D'une profondeur de 40 m, d'une surface de 19 ha et de plus de 2 km de berges, son comblement est actif et le delta de ce lac situé à l'embouchure du torrent principal est chargé d'alluvions glaciaires. Vous pourrez y pêcher des truites fario, des ombles chevaliers ou de fontaine et des cristivomers qui sont parfois de belle taille, quelques vairons.
