Clifton, Arizona, USA. Once a booming copper mining town but now mostly declining or already in decay and the majority of people and business have moved just up the road to Morenci. The Freeport McMoRan copper mine located in Morenci is one of the largest in the world
Cliff dwellings along the San Francisco and Gila Rivers are evidence of an advanced civilization that existed long before Caesar ruled Rome. Many specimens of pottery and stone implements are still to be found in these ancient dwelling places. In the mid-1500s, both Fray Marcos de Niza and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado passed through the area, following the San Pedro north to the Gila River. Geronimo was born in 1829 near the confluence of Eagle Creek and the San Francisco and Gila Rivers.
In 1856 the first mineral discoveries of the Morenci/Clifton area were found by California volunteers pursuing Apaches, and conflicts between the Apaches and advancing Anglo settlers touched off a 26-year-long war. Mining for gold and silver began in 1864, followed by copper in 1872, and the mine at Morenci quickly grew to become the largest copper producer in North America. Clifton's population ballooned from 600 in 1880 to 5000 by 1910, and it quickly earned its reputation as the wildest of the "Wild West" boomtowns. Neighboring Morenci was swallowed up by an open pit mine in the 1960s, but Clifton was preserved, and today Chase Creek Street is still graced with lovely Victorian-era buildings from the town's halcyon days as the place to quickly make and lose a fortune.
In 1983, Clifton survived two nearly fatal blows, first a nearly three-year-long strike that began on June 30, 1983. Then later that same year, on October 2, 1983, Tropical Storm Octave sent 90,900 cubic feet of water per second into the San Francisco River, which burst its banks, destroying 700 homes and heavily damaging 86 of the town's 126 businesses.
I imagine a lot of people have seen photos of this lighthouse not realising you can shoot it and then get a full weeks shopping in!
Well that happened today. The weather on the beach was relentless with high winds and sand blowing everywhere! After that a quick stop off at Burger King, Home & Bargains, Iceland followed by Morrisons. I should mention we were still in full on waterproofs carrying our camera bags. And to top it off we had a "cheeky" beer at Wetherspoons where the bar lady lost my debit card due to the high winds. We did find it after a good 10 minutes franticly searching for it!!

On a pleasant summer afternoon, a shop hostler carefully reverse DASH 9-44CWL 2505 into stall 18 at Taschereau Yard diesel shop for some needed maintenance. Stall 16 and 18 are mainly used for major work projects and each track can handle two low-power engine in a really tight fit or one high-horsepower unit with plenty of space around it.
In background was one of Taschereau's two diesel fuel tank, used to fill the fuel tanks of the numerous engines who goes thru the shop area each day.

Heart-breaking.
Yesterday, 31st December 2019, much of the town of Mogo was burnt to the ground in the in the devastating bushfire emergency which has been crippling Eastern Australia since October 2019.
I took this shot of one of the shops in 2005.
Mogo is/was a charming little heritage town near Batemans Bay in New South Wales, comprising mostly of shops selling antiques, curiosities, old wares, arts and crafts, souvenirs and traditional confectionery.
As all of the shops were fire-prone timber structures, they are now just ashes..
I hope this town, loved by many, can rebuild and thrive once more.

Another of the mini spiral staircase at One New Change in Central London. It's an awkward one to frame, so you'll need to go up to the first floor. Sadly you can't go any higher to get a view of it as there's no balcony looking down from the higher floors.
I've put together a map of spiral staircases in London. If you look at this Google Map you can see the one's I'm aware of. If you've got any that you know of that aren't on the map and you like them added then send me a Flickr mail with the details and I'll add it.
