Kobotoke Shiroyama (小仏城山) at 670m is a peak located midway between Kagenobuyama and Takaosan. Mountain peaks along the Jinbasan - Takaosan trail are good view points of Mt. Fuji, which is a volcano and the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776m. It has been a sacred mountain and a target of religious mountaineering called Touhai (登拝). A zigzag trail is seen on the slope.

Government of Japan first tried to register the volcano on the list of World Natural Heritage. It was rejected by UNESCO quoting too much development on the volcano including Shintou shrines, a meteorological station and a lodge on the summit.

Mt. Fuji is now registered on the list as a "Cultural" Heritage with a focus on its religious aspect.

The bump on the left slope, which is called Houeizan (宝永山), is the crater of the most recent eruption in 1707.

HFF and a wonderful weekend:)

The Shiroyama Viewpoint is north of the village center and offers nice views of Ogimachi and its farmhouses.

This is a view toward Takaosan (高尾山) or Mt. Takao from the slope of Kobotoke Shiroyama The peak of Takaosan is seen in the upper left. Forests surrounding Takaosan has been protected as a religious sanctuary and later as the Meijinomori Takao National-designated Park

Kobotoke Pass (小仏峠) is the saddle between Kagenobuyama (景信山) and Kobotoke Shiroyama (小仏城山).

Trees are mostly Japanese cedar (a cypress species endemic to Japan).

This castle was built in 1580 by Yoshiyori Satomi.

It is now used as the Tateyama City Museum Branch (Hakkenden Museum) in a mock castle tower rebuilt in 1982, and the surrounding area is Shiroyama Park. There is also a Japanese garden. Located on a hill at the southern tip of Chiba Prefecture, this castle has a panoramic view of the sea.

Kagoshima is the southern terminal of the Shinkansen (bullet train) network in Japan. Across a bay, the city faces Sakurajima, a volcano. Photo was taken from Shiroyama Hotel.

Susuki or silver grass (Miscanthus sinensis) is a perennial plant in the grass family. It is native to East Asia and found everywhere in sunny places in Japan. It is known as an invasive species in North America.

This is a southward view from Kagenobuyama.

The mountain in front is the ridge leading to Takaosan, and the peak installed with an antenna is Kobotoke Shiroyama

The mountains in the back are Tanzawa Mountains Mt. Ooyama (大山) in Tanzawa is a sacred mountain like Mitakesan and Takaosan. Upper left is the Bay of Sagami (相模湾). They belong to the Kanagawa prefecture

The Ropeway Summit Station, situated on the approximately 200-meter high summit of Mount Shiroyama, is connected to the Ropeway Base Station in front of Kikko Park by a journey of around three minutes.

You can enjoy a wide vista that includes Kikko Park, the Nishiki River, Kintaikyo Bridge and the old castle town, and in the far distance, you can even see Iwakuni Kintaikyo Airport and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.

There is a roofed resting area and a viewing platform at the summit, where you can enjoy the time until you board the return ropeway car.

Even in the dark shade, with a bill like this it is hard for this Large-billed Crow to go unnoticed. The quintessential Japanese Crow, this bird’s distribution is through South, SouthEast and East Asia, unlike the Carrion Crow posted yesterday that has a much broader distribution throughout Eurasia. Its former name was Jungle Crow, which I like a lot more! Somehow I only captured this bird on my last day in Japan, but have to post the photo to show the amazing bill and head shape. Truly admired in Shiroyama Koen, Kagoshima, Kyushu.
