We went looking for Bald Eagles, they were hiding from us so we watched this guy dine.

This image serves as a call to action, urging us to acknowledge the existence of marginalized communities and their struggle for basic necessities. It prompts reflection on the systemic issues that perpetuate poverty and the need for collective efforts to create a more equitable world. While the girl's identity remains anonymous, her indomitable spirit shines through, leaving a lasting impact on those who encounter her gaze.

One of the 4 sisters during practice.

It's about time I posted photos of my big brother ... he is the reason I took up photography now more than 50 years ago. Today would have been his 73rd birthday but he left us at age 46. I won't bother with bemoaning and detailing how profound our loss was ... he wouldn't condone it if he were here.

We photographed together when time and circumstance allowed and I would often turn my camera to him as my subject. Two examples of my informal portraiture of him are in this diptych. Although I had no way of knowing it at the time, all of these extemporaneous portraits would become a treasure to me after his death. I return to them often to provoke good memories that deserve provocation for their goodness and if only to remind me of our times together and to serve as the 'voice in my ear' when I am editing my own work. I often look at my own images when deciding if they are 'keepers' by asking myself "what would my brother have said about them?" It keeps me honest in some mysterious and wondrous way ... thank you big brother and happy birthday. "Anon, or sooner!"

This grebe had a successful fishing venture. I watched for over a minute as it worked this fish down its throat. On Commonwealth Lake.

After a very slow morning at Burnham Prairie, I was about to pack it up and go home when a disturbance in the water caught my curiosity.

A northern water snake had caught a very large catfish by the head and was trying its hardest to subdue its victim. The snake finally went under the water with its meal and was never seen again.

The Continental Mark II is an ultra-luxury coupé that was sold by the Continental Division of Ford for the 1956 and 1957 model years. The only product line ever marketed by Continental during its existence, the Mark II served as the worldwide flagship vehicle of Ford Motor Company. The vehicle derived its name from European manufacturing practice, with "Mark II" denoting a second generation (succeeding the 1939–1948 Lincoln Continental).

As the most expensive American-produced automobile of the time, the Mark II was marketed against the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Produced solely as a two-door hardtop coupe, the Mark II used standard Lincoln mechanical components, including its "Y-block" V8 and automatic transmission. The rest of the vehicle was largely hand-assembled, leading Ford to lose thousands of dollars for each example produced.

Following the 1957 model year, Ford discontinued its flagship Continental division, with the division phased into Lincoln from 1958. For 1969, Ford revived the chronology of the Mark series with the debut of the (second) Continental Mark III coupe, leading to five successive generations; the model line currently ends with the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII coupe. In modified form, Lincoln still uses the four-point star emblem introduced by the Mark II; each version of the Mark series (and the 1982-1987 Lincoln Continental) was styled with a "Continental" spare-tire trunklid.

Intended as a successor to the Lincoln Continental, effectively making its predecessor a Mark I, the Continental Mark II made its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 1955.The Mark II debuted in the United States at Ford Motor Company headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. With a $9,966 base price (equivalent to $95,100 today), the Mark II was the most expensive domestic-produced automobile sold in the United States at the time. The only extra cost option offered for the Mark II was a $595 ($5,700 today) air conditioner. Despite its high price, Ford Motor Company estimated it lost nearly $1,000 ($9500 today) for every unit produced

To streamline production, powertrain components were adapted from the Lincoln model line and checked through the division's quality-control program during production. The 368 cubic-inch Lincoln Y-block V8 powered the Mark II, paired with the 3-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. For 1956, the engines produced 285 hp, increased to 300 hp for 1957

Total productions for the two years produced was 3005 units including about one half dozen preproduction and prototypes.

violent storms on the Great Plains are notorious for the damage they can do...and for that reason much of the critical infrastructure such as power and cable lines are buried underground...additionally more storm-proof metal poles are being used such as the one on the far left above which leads to a water treatment plant that serves thousands of homes.

A Pileated Woodpecker plucks a large grub from a dead tree limb.

I believe there are less than 200 former Southern high hoods left in active service that haven't had their noses whacked. Many are yard jockeys that remain in captivity and go un-shot. However, every once in a while one of them escapes the confines of the yard and gets to stretch it's legs for a few days.

I was out and about earlier this week and was caught by surprise when I saw this battle worn GP38-2 on the Harrisburg local HH11. A few shots as they worked and off I went. But I was determined to catch him again and slow that shutter speed waaaaay down.

Yesterday, as the late November afternoon sun sunk lower and lower in the sky, the 11 crew needed to come out of Harrisburg Yard for some headroom so they could reverse back into another yard track to work the scrap yard on Cameron Street. BOOM. Time to roll. As the engineer grabs a fist full of throttle I ratcheted down to 1/6 and let the pixels fly.

A westbound Southern Pacific train emerges from Tunnel 7, while entering Tunnel 6 on Main 1 near Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California.

Tunnel 6 on Main 1 features the highest point on the original SP main line, crossing Donner Summit at 7,000 feet above sea level. The 1,659 ft. long bore, blasted out of solid granite, required nearly a year to complete, finished by August 1867.

Main 1 was removed from service by SP in 1993, and the ties and rails were repurposed to double track the Sunset Route. Today, the abandoned tunnels and snow sheds of Main 1 serve as a trail for curious hikers and railroad historians.

► █░▓ Yesterday I witnessed and filmed one of the most beautiful weddings of my life... At a moment I thought... well I can’t attend my son’s wedding, but am instead blessed with this one... —big HUGS TO 👑AIDAN AND ANASTASIA👑, our illuminated heroes now united in Christ’s Glory, with my best wishes for their harmonious marriage and a solid place booked in eternity. I may be overemotional, but only the camera's viewfinder prevented a few tears from coming out of my eyes at the sight of this couple in the ceremony. Being intrinsically Christian, it had all the virtues of our Lord — His humility, the modesty, the standing elevation. The greatest pomp & circumstance of which were — but who ever needs more! — the firm, solemn, stately nobility of the 21 year old bridegroom, and the radiating, uplifted beauty of the 19 year old bride. To them I congratulate and devote this upload, with Vera’s short story (originally in Russian) that can serve as a reminder for the moments of temptation which are not to our will’s short-lived laps. Those moments are bound to come...

Everything that happens, it all leads to... something.

The commuter train is delayed for about 20 minutes, and everyone on the platform is tired and grumpy, after work, wanting to go home, so we're waiting. No one announces when the train will arrive, like "information coming up." Finally, the train arrives, everyone sullenly boards, sits frowning, waiting for departure. And then a breathless, ruddy-cheeked guy with a cake tied with a ribbon rushes into the car and shouts into the phone: "Can you imagine, today is the most incredible day of my life! I was just running out of inertia, in despair, I was terribly late! And they are standing there, waiting for me! I'm coming! I'll make it to you on time! Hurray, right?!"

And we all smiled and relaxed, as if we'd all been waiting on the platform specifically so he could get there with his cake. Here we are, rolling, smiling, carrying a cake...

Returning from fishing, a manu o ku serves up a breakfast of colorful, translucent larval fish to its nestling. The manu o Kū, bird of the war god Kū, catches fish and squid, often alternating heads and tails after multiple sequential captures. Manu o Kū is also known throughout the tropics as the white tern (Gygis alba). They are arboreal nesting seabirds, though no nest is actually constructed. These terns lay a single egg in a hollow or forked branch of a tree to incubate and raise a chick. Strong sharp claws and reduced webbing on their feet facilitate clutching the bare branch.
