Masyarakat di Indonesia masih kurang menyadari akan pentingnya IPAL BIOTECH ( Septic Tank Tanpa Rembesan ) seperti yang terjadi di BLITAR Belum lama ini, Hampir seluruh sumur yang tersebar di wilayah pemukiman warga Kota Blitar tercemar bakteri Escherichia Coli ( E-Coli) .
Bakteri pembawa penyakit diare serta gangguan pencernaan itu menyusup melalui saluran septic tank ( pembuangan kotoran) yang berhimpitan dengan sumur.
“ Kalau diprosentase sekitar 95 persen sumur yang telah tercemar bakteri e coli, ” ujar Kepala Seksi Penyehatan Lingkungan dan Makanan Minuman Dinas Kesehatan Kota Blitar, Suprayogi kepada wartawan, Selasa ( 14/ 12/ 2010) .
Sebelumnya, dinas kesehatan telah melakukan pengambilan sampel air pada 100 sumur milik warga yang tersebar di tiga Kecamatan Kota Blitar. Dari kegiatan itu diketahui begitu rapatnya jarak antara sumur dengan pembuangan limbah ( septic tank) .
Padahal sesuai aturan kesehatan, jarak antara sumber mata air dengan septic tank minimal tujuh meter. “ Namun yang terjadi di Kota Blitar, sebagian besar kurang dari jarak minimal, ” terang Suprayogi.
Terbatasnya kepemilikan tanah, mengingat pemukiman di Kota Blitar merupakan perkampungan yang padat penduduk, menjadi faktor utama begitu dekatnya mata air dengan pembuangan limbah manusia. The soakaway is a drainage field and is also known as a drainfield or leech field.
Soakaways can come in many shapes and sizes. Again, the size of the soakaway is usually based on the number of occupants in the house or it is based on the number of bedrooms in the property.
How does a septic tank and soakaway work?
Wastewater from a house is discharged into a large underground tank. The septic tank fills up with wastewater. After the wastewater reaches the outlet pipe, the excess water enters the soakaway pipes. As it travels along the soakaway pipes it soaks away into the soil.
As the wastewater percolates through the soil the bacteria and microbes in the soil clean it, treating it as it slowly makes its way through the land and eventually ends up in the sea.
So, that is how a septic tank and soakaway works.
