I don't know the names of these delicate orchid like composites, small in the shade of piney forest.
In semiotics, naming diminishes knowing, so I don't mind at all.

Removed from the iconography of the Noir cement jungle I incorporated common Noir semiotics to an otherwise typical farm scenario using bleak overtones, restrictive framing, deep contrast, and a stark off angle camera shot.
Not being invited to wander this pasture we peer at these dejected cows through the proverbial glass darkly.

Quartiere Tiburtino, Roma. Nato nel 1949 dalla consapevolezza del ruolo sociale dell’architettura negli anni della ricostruzione, si contrappone con modestia artigiana alla retorica, alle manie di grandezza e all’autoritarismo del regime fascista. The Name of the Rose is the debut novel by Italian author Umberto Eco. It is an historical murder mystery set in an Italian monastery, in the year 1327, an intellectual mystery combining semiotics in fiction, biblical analysis, medieval studies, and literary theory. First published in Italian in 1980 under the title Il nome della rosa [il ˈnome ˈdella ˈrɔza], it appeared in English in 1983, translated by William Weaver.
A film adaptation, eponymously titled The Name of the Rose (1986), was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, and starred Sean Connery as William of Baskerville and Christian Slater as Adso.

A shot of the “OLD Settlement” within the village Kastráki) directly beneath Meteora, Greece in the fall. The historical village dates back to earlier than 1501, when it was mentioned in an Ottoman qadi’s court decision as “Quastiro” (in Turkish). Kastraki has been renowned for its vineyards, exquisite wine and tsipouro, in addition to the excellent view to Meteora.
This village’s Old settlement was already considered as “Old” a long time ago, when a brand-new signpost was put at the nearby crossroads. That signpost has now become worn out and almost illegible, so there is no doubt about its own Oldness. The old signpost alone was itself the subject of another shot (please see link for that shot in comments).
The following Coincidence is quite interesting from a Semiotics viewpoint: In this exceptional case, the relation of the sign (the OLD signpost) to the meaning communicated (the even OLDER settlement of an Oldest village) happens to be beyond conventional; the relation is natural (it’ only natural that an old symbol communicates the meaning of an old settlement of an old village).
Meteora is the name of the group comprising many impressive and lofty rock formations: The height of the sandstone megaliths ranges between 1,000-2,067 ft (300-630 m). The vertical, distinctively spindle-shaped rock formation above the village is called Roka or Adrachti. The rock masses were formed 60 million years ago, are geologically unique and listed in UNESCO world heritage sites.

Emberto Eco's "The name of the Rose".
Read it long time ago, forgotten most of it by now I suppose and must have missed lots of detail of this captivating, dense and intriguing book, in which history, philosophy, semiotics, religion, detective and many other aspects are woven as colourful layers through the book, a masterpiece.
It was Eco's first book, all subsequent ones were disappointing (to me at least).
