Ready, Steady, 'GrOw'!....seems the January snow had an unusual effect on the fungi in my local park, Trentham Gardens. I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of these days we actually see a Trentham fairy sitting on the top of one of the caps...they like to move around the park when no one is looking! :))
The lake, seen in the background, is frozen over. A pretty but cold walk around the lake that day!

There always seems to be one Reddish Egret that waits for me to visit Ding Darling NWR each February ;-)
Reddish Egrets are amusing to watch when they are looking for a meal. They run around the impoundment trying to scare up a fish or invertebrate, stop abruptly and raise their wings to shadow the shallow water for a better look, and continue the process until they find something that seems to be worth eating.
and I would advise you not to wait ten years before admitting today was great. If you're hung up on nostalgia, pretend today is yesterday and just go out and have one hell of a time :-)

The birds seem to have started their nesting early here in SE Florida. Wood Storks, which generally begin to arrive in their nesting area usually show up after the Great Blues and Great Egrets have chicks. This year, they are beginning to show up early. It will be interesting to observe how things unfold. Here's a shot from April of this year of a stork bringing in some nesting material.
Seems like it is going to get worse in Ukraine according to the French president and now the nuclear plant is on fire !! Let's hope there is no nuclear fall out !

Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves.... it is always appreciated.
It seemed to favour this chunky perch when around the nest box. Pity it wasn't something a bit more fetching! Seems a long time ago now.
Thank you for your comments and faves
Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind
Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sending all my love
Along the wire
They say that the road ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line it's been you and me
And lovin' a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be
Oh, girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours
Faithfully
Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile
Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am
I'm lost without you
And being apart ain't easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscovering you
Oh, girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours
Faithfully
Faithfully
I'm still yours
I'm forever yours
Ever yours
Faithfully
Seems like it is very early for this Avocet to be so far along in getting his breeding plumage.

The ongoing news of environmental disasters can seem overwhelming, even from the other side of the globe. My heart breaks a little with every news story. Right now the focus is on the suffering, and the brave heros trying to prevent further loss and suffering, but what happens after the headlines fade? We must take better care of this blessed planet, my friends, or our home may all too soon become uninhabitable. It isn't just the forests, or the animals that we could lose. It isn't even all about the horrific headlines from one disaster or another. How do we get back to normal? What is the new normal? We have this beautiful planet that seems to be able to heal itself and absorb disaster after disaster, but for how long? What if we seriously started thinking and behaving as good caretakers of what we have? Could we avoid numerous disasters, or at least make them less catastrophic? Rather than today's focus on the fear, the pain and suffering, and the staggering losses; what if we could learn to focus on love?
I am dedicating this post to the concept that we can have a beautiful home, but we must take good care of it. Love your planet. Love, they say, can move mountains. 🙏🙏🙏❤
Special thanks to my sweet AD for helping me with this one. ♥♥♥

These petunias seem to be subject to some sort of somatic mutation, where the color gene(s) are not expressed in an early cell, and the white spot that cell develops into enlarges as the flower grows. I think. At any rate, these petunias are both beautiful.
Thank you for looking. Isn't God a great artist?
Storms always seem to provide me with... a lesson from Brother Fear and Sister Awe. To the east the darkening clouds & wind rushed to engulf the landscape while to the west the sun was setting...

My own reality seems like it's shaking sometimes, I get lost in thought, am I real, or am I just the creation of another's imagination? Is this place real? Is anything around me real, or is it all also just someone's fantasy? Can both be true at the same time? Why am I the only one who seems to be here? Where did all the people go? Are they hiding, and if so what are they hiding from? If it is all imagined, somewhere by someone, what may lie in the deep dark depths of that imagination, and am I destined to live my life wondering, wandering, alone, and afraid?

All seems set for a round of speed skating at the Vlaardingervaart, the old shipping canal that connects Vlaardingen with Schipluiden and Delft.
Unfortunately the ice is still thin and temperatures are already on the rise again, so probably no show soon.
Sorry for another shot that most visitors to a Florence seem to take, but again it's such a beautiful sight.
Seems like more show up each day. And this is nothing. I'll post some down the road where you'll see how it is. Lots of them
Today seems to be a nice day for photos so I am poised to go out and shoot during my lunch break. Until I do that though, I wanted to post something so my only option was my archives. This is the Wells Falls in Ithaca, NY. I wish I had more time to take the hike that leads you at the bottom of the waterfalls. From there, the view is more impressive. I think, however, that even from that natural terrace sitting at the middle of the falls, the view is decent. The abandoned building is The Van Nattas Pumping station which was built in 1893 on the side of an old flour mill. Originally it provided water for the city of Ithaca for both drinking and fire stations. As the population of the city grew, more pumps were added and the station started to provide electricity too. This may not be the most natural waterfall I have ever seen, its location and the presence of this old mill though, make it quite unique.
Moby - Why does my heart feel so bad?
After reviewing all the frames I managed to capture of this encounter I'm still not 100% sure whether it was a scavenge or a kill, although the former seems more likely.
Seemed like all the birds were playing hard to get just like this Northern Parula. Old Mine Road, Columbia NJ.
Great Egret
Seems to be waiting for something to happen while standing in the early morning light streaming over the ocean and sand.
From the National Park Service:
Second only to the Great Blue Heron in size, the Great Egret (Casmerodius albus), sometimes called the Great White Egret, is one of the largest of the wading birds that inhabit the Everglades. Standing over 4 feet in height with a wingspan of more than 50 inches, it is similar in appearance to the Snowy Egret but can be distinguished by its long black legs, black feet, stout yellow bill, and tremendous size. The Snowy Egret is smaller than the Great Egret and has a black bill and yellow feet.
Although numbers of Great Egrets have recovered throughout most of the United States in response to conservation measures, numbers have declined in some parts of the southern United States because of habitat loss. Data indicate that the Florida Everglades has undergone a 90-percent reduction in the number of breeding pairs of wading birds.
Which fact seems somehow totally amazing and somehow not really amazing at all.
At the weekend we unexpectedly found ourselves at Lee on Solent in front of the camera, a change from the usual when we meet a stranger: me behind the camera and Ray patiently waiting at a discreet distance. Our story involves a group of people with a lady photographer taking turns to have a photoshoot whilst one of their party looked after a little dog, not allowed on the beach
The lady photographer approached us, sitting on the next seat, with a request to look after her little dog to which we readily agreed with a cheeky request from me that we might have our photo taken. Believe it or not, I had left my camera at home.
Thus we have received a gallery of photos together with happy anniversary wishes, and have chosen this one for our celebration. Thank you to Bella, the little dog, and of course especially to Myriame, the lovely lady, who we discovered is a professional photographer.
I seem to have mixed up some seeds this year, I thought I had a number of Cosmos growing….then this little beauty flowered…..

Although titles may seem like a countdown to sunrise, I simply wanted to post in chronological order. When I get to the shot taken at official time of sunrise, it will actually be looking away from the sun. I will also be including images taken after sunrise.
I can not resist taking shots of grasses, and although I found the bit of frozen water interesting, my main focus was on the grasses and the western sky which had more clouds than looking east. In hindsight I wish I would have zoomed in to the frozen water as an extra shot, but I was trying to work quickly as the light, and especially the skies were changing very rapidly.
Seems like it was several weeks that I hadn't seen any kingfishers around the lake, then last week, there was a couple hanging out together, and another individual. Nice to see them!
There seems to be one tall tree in this forest, the sole survivor of an ancient battle ...

I drove out to Agua Caliente park this morning. I was watching this Great Egret hunting for fish. Seems like it would take an awful lot of fish this size to make it worth his while.
While this may seem like a tender moment between this bull and cow bison, he was in the mood and she definitely was not! He kept nudging her with his head while she generally ignored him. He was persistent (and obnoxious!) enough to where she got up and tried to walk away. When she did he followed closely, continuing his advances. She grew tired of him and laid back down. We watched for a good 10 to 15 minutes admiring both of their strong wills - his trying and her denying!

I made this image over the weekend at Winton Wetlands.
This swamp was flooded in 1971 to create Lake Mokoan. It created a very large water storage that irrigated thousands of hectares of agriculture. At the same time the new reservoir inundated around 7,000 Ha of agricultural land, ancient forests and beautiful and unique wetlands. The flooding killed around 150,000 river red gums.
The stags still stand and create a haunting landscape, especially as the sun goes down. I chose to focus on this lone tree, standing out in front of the dense stand of trees behind.
I see strength in this tree and it makes me feel oddly emotional.
Even though most of these trees are dead, they still provide crucial habitat for so many bird species. The wetland hasn't had any water for several years now.
These trees seems to cry for help, probably any help will be too late 😢

I seem to be shooting a lot in the dark these days. A lot to do with the time of year I guess.
But slowly the days are getting longer and it's a full moon tonight.
This was shot from my garden a few nights ago.
Potluck..Seen at Gibraltar point sailing club where a kind gentleman told me all the yachts would be lowered by crane into the river the following weekend...my timing is always off but never mind , this abandoned liite hulk will get its five minutes of fame instead lol....
Btw this was taken just a week or so ago, I noticed my Fuji x100v was bracketing exposure and iso..have no idea how I did that because I did not set it up to bracket.
I altered the settings to stop the bracketing and set to single shot. However it must have gone to default settings. I did notice and fully intended to remove the date to upload date but forgot 🤔
Located on the River Steeping at Gibraltar Point nature reserve, the last accessible part of the medieval port of Wainfleet Haven.
Being located at the entrance to the Wash, the club is ideal for exploring the nearby ports and harbours of the Norfolk coast as well as venturing further in, to the mystical Wash with its shifting sands and unique wildlife.
Apologies Nigel, also to anyone else who may have bothered to fave this shot before I had to move it to today. This shot seems to be entirely jinxed and dropped back 3 days lol..it is in its rightful place now..
