This section of Wi Hwy 42 at the tip of Door County Peninsula is quite possibly the most photographed section of roadway in the state. It looks quiet now but believe me it was anything but when we were there last week. When we arrived, there were already a half-dozen vehicles pulled off to the side to view and shoot, people in the middle of the road dodging near constant traffic. We waited and waited, finally five left and we leapfrogged the remaining one to grab this quick shot before a new vehicle leapfrogged in front of us. It was not a completely clean grab, there was a vehicle at the far end that I erased. Same with a power line, but I left the mailbox and realtor sign.
I have seen a few of this scene and most all take out the power line but the verdict is split on whether to leave the mailbox.
An unusual subject that caught my eye whilst out wandering on a wet afternoon - the remains of an old punga tree fern stump that has been sawn through, wet with rainwater and with new life springing from within! Worth an image I thought.

One of three sections of the Coates Carter Reredos at the church of St James the Great , Walwyn's Castle, Pembrokeshire.
A reredos is a painted or carved screen behind the alter in a church. This one was made by John Coates Carter and is only one of three produced by this architect and artist.
The centre section is that of Jesus dressed as a priest at a communion service.

Ruby Beach is the northernmost of the southern beaches in the coastal section of Olympic National Park in the U.S. state of Washington. It is located on Highway 101, in Jefferson County, 27 miles (43 km) south of the town of Forks.
Like virtually all beaches on the northern coast, Ruby Beach has a tremendous amount of driftwood. It is notable for the number of sea stacks there.
The beach is so called because of the ruby-like crystals in the beach sand.

Mouse locks onto an eerie crying sound coming from a tanglewood south of the pasture.
A second later she and Fidget sprinted to the fence and told the world about it.
Well that's a wrap on another week and a very welcome beginning to a long weekend.

This is the top section of the largest falls at Buttermilk State Park. You can see where it gets its name from the water flow.
I hope everyone enjoys this image! :^)

I was taking a cool focus stack of this peony when it fell from its clasp onto the floor. It was missing half of its petals when I picked it up. That allowed this cross-section photo though. I set the camera for 110 frames, and blended them with Helicon Focus to create this image.
Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers.

White-bellied Sea-Eagle
Scientific Name: Haliaeetus leucogaster
Description: The White-bellied Sea-Eagle has white on the head, rump and underparts and dark grey on the back and wings. In flight the black flight feathers on the wings are easily seen when the bird is viewed from below. The large, hooked bill is grey with a darker tip, and the eye is dark brown. The legs and feet are cream-white, with long black talons (claws). The sexes are similar. As in other raptors (birds of prey), Males (2.5 kg - 3.7 kg) are slightly smaller than females (2.8 kg - 4.2 kg).The wingspan is about 1.8 m - 2 m. Young Sea-Eagles are brown as juveniles than slowly become to resemble adults in a patchwork manner, acquiring the complete adult plumage by their fourth year.
Similar species: The White-bellied Sea-Eagle is the second largest raptor (bird of prey) found in Australia. The largest is the Wedge-tailed Eagle, Aquila audax, which stands up to 1 m tall. The Wedge-tailed Eagle is mostly brown, with a wedge-shaped tail. Young Sea-Eagles may be confused with the Wedge-tailed Eagle, but differ in having a paler head and tail and more steeply upswept wings when soaring.
Distribution: White-bellied Sea-Eagles are a common sight in coastal and near coastal areas of Australia. In addition to Australia, the species is found in New Guinea, Indonesia, China, south-east Asia and India
Habitat: White-bellied Sea-Eagles are normally seen perched high in a tree, or soaring over waterways and adjacent land. Birds form permanent pairs that inhabit territories throughout the year.
Feeding: The White-bellied Sea-Eagle feeds mainly off aquatic animals, such as fish, turtles and sea snakes, but it takes birds and mammals as well. It is a skilled hunter, and will attack prey up to the size of a swan. Sea-Eagles also feed on carrion (dead prey) such as sheep and fish along the waterline. They harass smaller birds, forcing them to drop any food that they are carrying. Sea-Eagles feed alone, in pairs or in family groups.
Breeding: White-bellied Sea-Eagles build a large stick nest, which is used for many seasons in succession. The nest can be located in a tree up to 30m above the ground, but may also be placed on the ground or on rocks, where there are no suitable trees. At the start of the breeding season, the nest is lined with fresh green leaves and twigs. The female carries out most of the incubation of the white eggs, but the male performs this duty from time to time.
Calls: Distinctive loud "goose-like" honking call, which is heard particularly during the breeding season.
Minimum Size: 75cm
Maximum Size: 85cm
Average size: 80cm
Average weight: 2 630g
Breeding season: May to October
Clutch Size: Two.

The section between Drew (where we ran around the train and changed direction to go back to Ashton) and Bonnievale on the Swellendam-Ashton line is extremely scenic, especially when the weather is right.

Laurel Falls is an extremely popular destination within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The hike to the falls and back is 2.3 miles and hikers will climb roughly 314 feet in elevation before arriving at the photogenic 80-foot waterfall.
The waterfall consists of an upper and a lower section (seen in this photo), divided by a walkway which crosses the stream (Laurel Branch) at the base of the upper falls. The falls receives its name from the mountain laurel that blooms along the trail and near the falls in May.
Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Two minarets of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (also known as the Blue Mosque), in Istanbul, Türkiye (nee Turkey).
Built in the early 1600s and incorporating elements of traditional Islamic architecture and Byzantine Christian architecture the Blue Mosque is the last great mosque of the classical Ottoman period. It sits opposite the millenium-older Haigha Sophia.
