We were up early for a Winter Bird Count and found that the moon had not yet set. This is a few days after the full moon (Snow Moon).

Ik bleef een klein uurtje van dit fraaie uitzicht genieten en moest dan jammer genoeg het plekje alweer verlaten met... welgeteld één foto in het kastje. De bermbrand strooide toch wel wat roet in het eten - vergeef me de woordkeuze bij deze foto ;-)
Op vrijdag klommen de temperaturen dan opnieuw uitzonderlijk hoog! Het werd dus een dagje luilekkeren langs de oevers van de Elbe... maar van al dat nietsdoen (en zweten), krijgt een mens natuurlijk wel dorst en dus besloten we om onze wijnkelder wat aan te vullen en reden we naar Schloβ Wackerbarth, een wijnkasteel in Radebeul (trouwens, ook de DBAG kent dit wijnkasteel, getuige deze reclameloc).
De koffer werd goed gevuld en nu we toch in de buurt van de Löβnitzgrundbahn (met vertrek in Radebeul) waren, vatte ik het plan op om de laatste stoomtrein van Moritzburg naar Radebeul Ost nog op foto te zetten aan de Dippelsdorfer Teich.
Zo gezegd, zo gedaan. Terwijl mijn vrouw pootje baadde, stelde ik me op om de stoomtrein te vereeuwigen op de baandam die de vijver letterlijk in tweeën splitst!

Der letzte Dampfzug des Tages überquert den Bahndamm am Dippelsdorfer Teich auf seiner Fahrt von Moritzburg nach Radebeul Ost. Eine schöne Abwechslung für die vielen Badegäste!

An early morning stock move from Carlisle Kingmoor to Burton behind work worn DRS 37716 was potentially worth photting this morning.
I was aware it was to be six 'coffins' but was not prepared for three of them being the 'scabbiest' I have ever encountered! Not sure why this move came about but I am sure somebody out there knows?

Door Corona en familieomstandigheden, waren we niet in staat om bij Plandampf in het Werratal te zijn. Maar na zoveel jaar kruipt het bloed toch waar het niet gaan kan. Daarom besloten mijn vader, mijn oudste zoon en ik in de meivakantie naar het voormalige Oost-Duitsland af te reizen om daar te genieten van smalspoor stoom. Deze stoomtreinen reiden als openbaar vervoer op dagelijkse basis.
Nadat we twee dagen de Zittauer Schmalspurbahn hadden bezocht, gingen we door naar Dresden. Daar werd als eerste op 2 mei de Lössnitzgrundbahn bezocht. Een spoorlijn waar we nog niet eerder geweest waren.
Due to Corona and family circumstances, we were unable to join Plandampf in the Werratal. But after so many years, the blood creeps where it can't go. That is why my father, my eldest son and I decided to travel to the former East Germany during the May holidays, to enjoy narrow-gauge steam. These steam trains operate as public transport on a daily basis.
After visiting the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway for two days, we continued to Dresden. The Lössnitzgrundbahn was the first to be visited there on May 2. A railway line we had never been to before.
Aufgrund von Corona und familiären Umständen konnten wir leider nicht bei Plandampf im Werratal sein. Aber nach so vielen Jahren kriecht das Blut dahin, wo es nicht hin kann. Deshalb haben mein Vater, mein ältester Sohn und ich beschlossen, in den Maiferien in die ehemaligen DDR zu reisen, um Schmalspurdampf zu genießen. Diese Dampfzüge verkehren täglich als öffentliche Verkehrsmittel.
Nach einem zweitägigen Besuch der Zittauer Schmalspurbahn ging es weiter nach Dresden. Als erstes wurde dort am 2. Mai die Lössnitzgrundbahn besichtigt. Eine Bahnstrecke, auf der wir noch nie zuvor waren.

SDG 99 1789 entering the Radebeul shed after another day of work on the Saxon narrow gauge line Radebeul-Radeburg. The engine was withdrawn from service some days later.
