Hello. I am Myat Mon Hsu and I volunteered with the SDGs Campaign for the University's English Speaking Contest 2018 by joining my brother Si Thu Wai who is an ASEAN MY World 2030 advocate. One of the Global Goals that is of concern to me and my community is SDG4 Quality Education. This goal is urgent to achieve in our society because millions of students are unschooled and they do not have a chance to see what qualified education is. Quality Education is not the one that is measured by a test score or grades. As for me, it is the one that every child must be in school and the qualities of those schools must be able to promote productive students and every child must have rights to learn what he/she is interested in without any blocks apart from entrance. For me, this would be a golden chance to see and touch the quality education.

"SDG4 Quality Education
What I see these day in Thailand is students learning too much theory and don’t have much chance to get hands-on and learning outside their class. Currently I’m volunteering in Saturday School giving more opportunity for student whose interest in extracurricular activities such as speaking, cooking, and local tour guide. I believe the programme that I’m working on will help youth in small communities to be equipped with skills to help giving them opportunities for a better future.

I am Ashin Sasana from Tarchileik, Myanmar. For me, SDG4 Quality Education is crucial in my community. My ambition is to build up an orphanage in order for the orphans to be able to learn English language and connect themselves with the world. Regardless of background and religion, if we can communicate with each other well, we can bring the best out of each other and consequently, our world will be peaceful. In my city, quality education is getting better because although we could not use computers last year, we can now use it and have a conversation in English with tourists so it enables us to have a better education. From the religious point of view, I think quality education create a better and tranquil life for human beings as well. That is why I hope young generation can get access of quality education in the near future.

Early childhood is a period of tremendous growth. If we fail children at this crucial stage in their development, later efforts to create global citizens will fail too. We need to understand what constitutes best practise for early children development and how to take successful efforts to scale.
This briefing will bring together high-level experts and representations to: present evidence-based models showing the best ways to deliver early childhood care and education outcomes; provide guidance on specific and cost-effective financing opportunities to harness the synergies between education, health and nutrition; and highlight the critical importance of early childhood learning to ensure every child reaches their potential, and SDG4 is fully achieved.

Hi, my name is Aung Myat Kyaw. I am a co-founder of Meiktila University English Language club. For me, SDG4 Quality Education is the most important one. Education is not about learning by heart nor just sharing knowledges. Rather, it is about tapping into our potential and creativity. Education sector in Myanmar still needs major improvements because newly-graduates here only have knowledges but no creativity, whereas quality education can truly tap into humans’ creativity. Without creativity, humans would not survive until now.

“I’m interested in Quality Education SDG4 because once everyone has good education, they can understand other issues and act responsibly e.g. environment protection. Our education problems are attributed by major problems including management, poverty and also corruption, which leads to school dropouts. In schools, we don’t have sufficient materials or technical stuffs equipped, not enough teachers in rural areas, while different types of corruption exist in every school. To improve this, all citizens, government and relevant sectors need to go together to fight against corruption and renovate management to meet the international standard. ”
